Pre-Season July/August 2012
News
As the 2012/13 season approaches, hopes are high this year for the beginning of a new era for Chelsea Football Club. I have continued to make my mark on the team and made quite a few further deals in the transfer market. Some sad but necessary changes have been made. Chelsea have sold 21,916 season tickets, a slight decline from last year. We will be looking at competing in four competitions this year, we will be aiming to have a good run in the domestic cups, but most importantly trying to reach the final of the Europa League again, and challenging for the Premier League after a bad League run last year. We definitely need to be playing Champions League football again next season & with the current set of players & staff, we look to achieve that and dominate Europe in the next few years. Seeing that we didn't make top four last season, we will be competing in the Europa League this season with our Fourth qualifying round tie against FC Otelul Galati from Romania on route to the Group Stages. Our League Cup third round tie will be against Aston Villa away. Before we kick off the season we have our Community Shield match against league holders Manchester United at Wembley. With the departure of one of our Chelsea legends, Fernando Torres will be handed the Vice-Captain role for the upcoming season. Youngster Jacob Mellis has committed himself to a four year deal worth 1.7 million. We have also signed Chelsea old-boy Tony McAndrew from Aston Villa as an addition to our coaching staff. Although we had two defeats in preseason I am very happy with the squad as they have started to gel together well & am looking forward to what should be another exciting season for the blues.
