Episode Thirteen - A Day In The Life Of Liverpool F.C.

9th August 2012

_______________________________________________________________________________

Pre-Match Team Talk

Me: "Guys, here is the teamsheet for today:"

Me: "I've rotated the squad quite a bit. This does not mean that I do not have faith in you, I'm just resting you and using others is all. Vitesse are using a 5-3-2 formation. This will hopefully allow us to push them back deep in to their own half. Let's go and get the win"

_______________________________________________________________________________

Martin Tyler: "Out comes the two teams to the sound of the Anfield faithful singing "You'll Never Walk Alone". Let's see what Liverpool can produce today."

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

0' Kick-off: MT "Liverpool kick-off shooting towards the Anfield Road End in this first half."

8' Sahin - goal: MT "Henderson to Sahin who might just have a go. Ohh, and its in! Nuri Sahin has scored on his Anfield debut! Lift-off for Liverpool!" ||| ||| NQ "We talked about the tremendous quality of Nuri Sahin before the match and that was a great goal. He controls the ball and shoots from twenty-five yards out in to the bottom corner. 1-0 Liverpool!"

1-0 Liverpool! (2-0 agg.)

21' Kakuta - goal: MT "Knoll plays a delightful long-ball which Skrtel can't reach and Kakuta is in. He goes past Jones and scores! Vitesse have equalised!"

1-1 Vitesse Equalised! (1-2 agg.)

30' Bouwmann - goal: MT "Knoll centres the ball to Bouwmann!! Vitesse have come from being a goal down to being a goal up! How crucial will that goal be?"

2-1 Vitesse! (2-2 agg. [winning on away goals])

HT: MT "Liverpool go in to the break 2-1 down on the night and losing on away goals on aggregate. Stay tuned for first half analysis from Geoff Shreeves and Jamie Redknapp."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

46' Kick-off + sub: MT "Steven Gerrard is coming on for Suso as Liverpool try to find a way back in to the tie."
Suso (#30)
Steven Gerrard (#8)

46' Gerrard - goal: MT "Henderson plays a lovely ball in to the box for Gerrard!!... That's what you call instant impact. Gerrard has equalised at the Kop End!"

2-2 Liverpool Equalise! (3-2 agg.)

90+2' Suarez - goal: MT "Pacheco with the ball. He beats one, he beats two! He crosses in to the box for SUAREZ!!! El Pistolero has scored the decisive goal in this tie! Liverpool are through!" ||| ||| NQ "Some brilliant dribbling from Dani Pacheco on the right and his cross is absolutely perfect for Suarez to head home to give Liverpool the late, late winner!"

3-2 Liverpool! (4-2 agg.)

FT: MT "Liverpool are the victors here but certaintly got a worry when Vitesse took the lead. Match analysis with Geoff Shreeves after the break."

A Normal Day's Work

6.30 a.m.
I opened my eyes and the early morning sun was streaming through my window. My alarm was ringing six inches in front of me. "Another day doing what I love," I thought. The shower was nice and relaxing, it helped freshen me up for what would be another long day of player searching. I got changed in to my Liverpool track-suit and runners and headed out the door, careful not to wake Elaine or my two grown-up daughters, who are here visiting.

7.08 a.m.
I arrive at Melwood where two cars are parked already. "Pascoe and Carragher," I thought. The two hardest workers at this club. The former my assistant manager and the latter a Liverpool legend. I was in the building five minutes later. I said hello to Melissa, the main receptionist and I headed for my office. There was a note on my desk:
Europa League Play-off Draw

"Easy game," I thought. But I decided that I will play it safe.

7.30 a.m. - 7.50 a.m.
The entire coaching and playing staff ate breakfast in the canteen. I got a delightfully warm bowl of porridge with jam and a jug of orange juice. Myself, Pascoe and Borrell discussed tactical faults in our games against Vitesse and what we knew about Lokeren.

8.00 a.m. - 8.15 a.m.
The entire coaching and playing staff had a meeting in one of the large meeting rooms. We discussed what our training focus would be for the day, ball possession today, and motivated the players after the win two days ago.

8.30 a.m. - 9.00 a.m.
Players were on the pitch for their half an hour warm-up

9.15 a.m. - 11.15 a.m.
Players and fitness coaches went to the gym for their two hour session while me and Pascoe discussed transfer targets.

11.30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Lunch and relaxation time.

1.15 p.m. - 3.30 p.m.
Training resumed with ballwork. Players split in to four groups, one of them being 'keepers. Worked on several drills through-out this period.

4 p.m. - 5.30 p.m.
Video analysis with players and staff. Looked at previous matches, upcoming opposition and training drills.

5.30 p.m. - 6.00 p.m.
Myself and Pascoe summarised what occured in training and had a look at our next five fixtures to see what results we would expect.

2012-10-29 15:43#69034 Arvind K : y u no hire director of football?
I don't need a Dierctor of Football. All he would do is take my power away from me!
What a comeback! Superb update, again.
2012-10-29 15:49#69036 or.dabool : What a comeback! Superb update, again.
I would thank you but apparently I'm passed my limit lol. Yeah, it was a good comeback with Suarez scoring at the end. Hopefully we can win more!
Director of Football doesn't govern you. He just makes your job easier. :P

IRL Managers misunderstand the role like you did :PPPP
Doing well, Keep it up!

Agger Injured

*Knocks On Door*

Me: "Come in!"

Colin Pascoe walks in to my office with a sheet of paper in his hand. He looks un-happy.

Colin Pascoe: "Danny Agger got injured on international duty."

Me: "Shit! What happened?"

Colin Pascoe: "He was sprinting and he pulled up. I was told he has a groin strain and will be out injured for three weeks."

Me: "Ok, thanks. I guess I'll start Carra against West Ham alongside Martin."

Liverpool Complete £14M Deal For Bryan Ruiz

CA:
PA:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Me: "I'm happy to welcome Bryan Ruiz to Liverpool Football Club. He is a player that we have been interested in for a while now and we have been able to secure his signing."

Emma Heath (Sky Sports): "Will Bryan feature in the game tomorrow against West Ham?"

Me: "You will have to wait untill tomorrow to find out, I'm afraid. I will not give Sam Allardyce the advantage by telling him who will and will not start."

Bryan Ruiz: "It is a.. great honour to play for Liverpool Football Club. They have great emm.. history and a... fanbase accross the world. Emm... they have great qualities and I am happy to play for them." (Non-fluent English)

Pre-Match Press Conference

*Whelan and Carragher attend Press Conference*

Press: "Ronnie, the league season starts tomorrow. Are you confident of getting Liverpool's first opening day win since the 2008/2009 season?"

Me: "I know that West Ham are tough opposition and that we have been underperforming in recent seasons. However, I have the belief in my players and that we will start strong!"

Press: "Lucas Leiva is still injured and Daniel Agger has picked up an injury on international duty. How big an effect will these two injuries have on your side tomorrow?"

Me: "They are two very good players and we will miss them tomorrow. But we have a squad of players who are the level to perform at their best week in, week out in the Premier League. We should look for the win with or without them."

Press: "Jamie, you are getting to that age where you can start to think about retirement. How long do you think you have left?"

Jamie Carragher: "Well, I know that I'm passed my peak. There is no point denying that. But I will keep fighting on, to be a servant of Liverpool and to hopefully help the team win more trophies. Maybe I'm finished after this season, maybe I have another three or four. I don't know."

Maybe he makes my job easier, maybe he doesn't. But I believe in old-fashioned management. I'm my own man, and call me stubborn, but I will do things my own way. Thanks for the info though :)

2012-10-29 16:46#69049 Atreidas : Doing well, Keep it up!

I hope so too! He toke up the money made on Kelly and an extra £5M! He's got 18 flair so should be alright.
