Me: "You see, I'm new to this. I'm no Kenny Dalglish or Rafa Benitez. I don't know what other managers do to motivate players or what they do in preparation of a match. All I know is that we need to win this game. I'm new to the managerial side of things, I'm used to going out on to that pitch and winning tackles, completing passes and scoring goals. I've never been the guy on the touchline, driving my team on. Or the guy making sure that the team's tactics are 100% accurate. But what I've always been is the guy who will do what it takes to get the win. I was always that guy. I will do everything to win and I want you guys to do the same. Are you in?"

Team: "Yes, sir!"

Me: "That's the spirit! Now let's go our there and get the win!"

22' Borini - goal: MT "Gerrard plays the one-two with Suarez and gets in to space. He plays a ball forward for BORINI!!!!... 1-0 Liverpool!! The Italian international has scored on his Liverpool debut! ||| ||| NQ "That is a great goal. Gerrard and Suarez combine well with the former playing Borini through on the right. The hearty Italian finishes cooley in to the far corner."

32' Allen - second yellow: MT "Ooh, Allen has just gone through the back of Huisman and he has already been booked. What has the referee to say? He shows him the yellow card followed by the red and he's off!!!" ||| ||| NQ "That was just reckless, it really was. He knew he was alreay booked but he just got himself sent off."

Liverpool Down To 10 Men!

40' Assaidi - sitter saved: MT "Reina plays the ball forward. Gerrard gets on the end of it and Assaidi is through! But his shot is saved by Woon-Jae and goes out for a corner. Great chance for Liverpool gone begging!" ||| ||| NQ "What a chance! Gerrard does extremely well to flick the ball on in to the path of Assaidi but he was not clinical enough to score. That might just cost Liverpool."

HT: MT "It is half-time and ten-men Liverpool lead by a goal to nil. Can Liverpool hang on to their narrow lead? After the break Gary Neville, John Barnes and co. will talk us through the first half."



Half-Time Team Talk

Me: "Ok, we are down to ten men but we are still playing the better football. We are the team winning and we want to win, don't we? Vitesse will go all-out in the second half and you need to be prepared for that. Go out there and fight for that win!"


Martin Tyler: "The two teams are back out on the pitch. Stewart Downing is warming up but won't be ready to come on yet."

46' Kick-off: MT "Liverpool start this second half. Can they build on their one goal lead?"

47' Substitution: MT "Fabio Borini is coming off for Stewart Downing. A good shift was put in by Borini tonight. He got the goal and now Whelan seems to be looking to hold on to the win. It looks like Downing will play on the right and Suarez down the middle."

Gary Neville: "Let's talk about Liverpool, John. How did you think they performed today?"

John Barnes: "I thought they played quite well, Gary. They were good attacking wise and probably could have scored one or two more goals. Defensively Liverpool were very solid, only conceding that one chance which Reina saved well off the bar. Borini and Sahin look like good coups for the club and I reckon they will shine this season."



Gary Neville: "What about Joe Allen's sending off? What did you make of that?"

John Barnes: "Both times he got booked for bad challenges. They were silly mistakes to make and he deserved the red card. As a professional footballer, you have to be more careful when sliding in for the ball. If you catch the player, you are in trouble and he caught the player twice today."

Gary Neville: "It might be too early but do you think that Liverpool have the quality to finish in a Top Four spot this year?"

John Barnes: "Liverpool have a stronger team this year than last year but if you look at the other teams challenging for those spots, it will be really tough for Liverpool to get there. There are the two Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle and don't rule out Everton! They have a good squad of players who are willing and determined. They will crush you if you aren't careful. But Liverpool have some very good players too. Gerrard and Suarez are the obvious ones but there is also Reina, Sahin, Lucas, Agger, Skrtel and so on. If they can start well and hold some sort of form then there is no reason why they cannot challenge for a Top Four spot."

Rebecca Bloom (Sky Sports): "Congratulations on the win Ronnie. How important was it to get the win here in your first game in charge?"

Me: "Well I think that if there is ever a time to win a game, its at the start. It gets you motivated and ready to rumble for the rest of the season."

Rebecca Bloom (Sky Sports): "What do you have to say about your team's performance?"

Me: "They worked hard for the win and that is all that matters. You can go on about how a team was playing the better football but it is team who is the most willing to sacrifice themselves who deserve the win and we deserved that win."

Rebecca Bloom (Sky Sports): "With the departue of Martin Kelly to Chelsea and Joe Cole, on loan, to Swansea, will we be seeing a new signing over the coming weeks?"

Me: "I can't promise anything but there might just be one or two new faces coming in to our club."
