Sunday 20th December 2015 – Manchester City v Newcastle United (Premier League)

Before the game it was revealed Luis Suarez has handed in a transfer request at Manchester City and he will be looking the leave the Club in the January transfer window. City are unlikely to receive the £38m they spent on Suarez a year ago but will be hoping to recoup most of the money.

Man City take the three points today with a solid performance that only produced one goal. City fans would have been nervous going into the final 10 minutes as again they failed to put a game beyond doubt but again it didn’t matter as one goal was enough. The victory won’t be quite as sweet as City discovered Gareth Bale has fractured his arm and will miss around 4 weeks.

Wednesday 23rd December 2015 – Manchester City v Manchester United (Premier League)

This seasons fixtures have thrown out a Christmas cracker as City face United just two days before the big day. City come into the game top of the league by a point, although United have two games in hand. The teams have met twice already this season and United have won both and stopped City from scoring in both their 1-0 Community Shield victory and the 4-0 win at the Al Mubarak Arena in the Capital One Cup.

City come into the game with two big injuries, striker and leading goalscorer Edinson Cavani is missing, as is Gareth Bale, so it is likely Wellington Nem will start on the left with Sergio Aguero up front. City are struggling up front a little and it’s been made worse by the imminent deal to take Luis Suarez to Real Madrid.

United aren’t injury free coming into the game with Gaston Ramirez and Shinji Kagawa both missing from their squad. Once again United have been lead by the goals of Wayne Rooney and Jose Mourinho will no doubt be looking to the England striker to guide United to another win over City.

First Half

The first half was end to end stuff with both teams creating plenty of chances, but it didn’t take United long to take the lead when Nani pounced on a rebound to make it 1-0 inside 5 minutes. Nani then managed to somehow hit the post with an open goal on the 15 minute mark and United then managed to hit the post again through Yarmolenko. City were still creating opportunities but never looked like taking one until Javi Martinez brought down Zurak in the area and Aguero stepped up and made it 1-1.

Second Half

The second half was just as good as the first, end to end and a great advert for Premier League football. As both teams created chances and the tackles went flying in, it seemed as if the game was heading for a draw but with 10 minutes to go a poor De Gea kick was intercepted by Aguero, who played a one-two with Nasri and Aguero slotted the ball home to give City the win. The win puts City 4 points clear at the top and could perhaps be the goal that City needed to continue their push for the title.

Saturday 26th December 2015 – Middlesborough v Manchester City (Premier League)

It was bottom versus top at the Riverside on Boxing Day and the team top of the league dominated the game from start to finish but have only come back to the North West with a point. City created countless chances but were only able to convert one, and a goal with 20 minutes to go gave the side bottom of the league a valuable point.

Tuesday 29th December 2015 – Stoke City v Manchester City (Premier League)

City seem to be in the same situation every game recently, dominating games and either just about holding on to the three points or conceding when they are on top, today was one of those days where City held on. City went 1-0 down early on but quickly turned it around and then dominated proceedings for the remainder of the match.

Manager’s December Review

We played 7 Premier League games in the busy Christmas period, winning 5, drawing 1 and losing away at Spurs. In the 5 wins, we beat Villa convincingly and then struggled to put games to bed. Of course one of the best feelings of the month was beating United in the first league derby of the season, a brilliant performance from Sergio Aguero lead the way.

In the Cup’s, we were embarrassed by United in the Quarter Final of the Capital One Cup as they beat a young City side 4-0 and sent us crashing out of a competition we were hoping to win for the 2nd year on the run. It was a bad month in all Cup competitions as we also lost 4-0 to Galatasaray in the final Champions League match and we finished second in the group and will face Juventus in the first knock out stage.

My player of the month goes to Sergio Aguero. In the absence of Cavani, Aguero has stepped up when playing up front and scored some vital goals. Aguero led the line perfectly against United, and scored two goals that gave us the three points. My praise also has to go to Tihomir Zurak who won the Young Player of the Month award after a series of brilliant performances.

Been reading for a while now, only reason I got an account on this site is to comment on how great this story is, I much prefer stories of triumph AND tribulation, rather than just, "Oh I won everything in one season with Real Madrid", great story!

Suarez Heads For Madrid

As the January transfer window opens it is Real Madrid that have made the first major move in Europe by completing the signing of Manchester City striker Luis Suarez. Suarez only joined City at this stage of last season from Liverpool for a staggering £38.5m but has joined Madrid for a fee believed to be around £22.5m.

Suarez’s spell at City wasn’t a big success with him only scoring 4 league goals in 22 appearances, and his attitude came into question on several occasions especially when he stormed down the tunnel and hurled abuse at City boss Georgi Kinkladze when he was substituted in his final appearance for City.

Suarez had handed in a transfer request less than 2 weeks ago and City will be happy to find a buyer so early in January, and will not be too bothered about taking the loss on his transfer fee. Real Madrid seems like a good fit for Suarez, and Spanish football will suit his style of play and many expect him to achieve big things in Madrid. He tweeted, “Happy to be going to Madrid! A fresh start at a massive Club! #Wishmeluck.”

With City a little thin on the ground in terms of first team strikers, with only Edinson Cavani and Sergio Aguero, they will certainly be looking at using the money to strengthen as they push for a third league title in five years. And despite Kinkladze’s trust in his youth team, with Marcio Roberto already having scored a Premier League goal and Daniel Biesmann having scored in the Capital One Cup, he is very keen to sign some more experience and many think Manchester United’s 30 year old striker Wayne Rooney is top of his wishlist.

When asked about his former player and his plans to strengthen, Kinkladze said, “We are disappointed the move didn’t work out but it was clear early on that Luis didn’t have the same attitude as everybody else at the Club. As for a replacement, I am working with the board to bring a couple of players in this window and hope to have the deals done soon.” When Rooney was mentioned, he laughed and said, “Wayne is a great player but I can’t see United selling him to us but this is football so you never know.”

Saturday 2nd January 2016 – Manchester City v Watford (FA Cup Third Round)

A young City side took on Championship Watford and impressed in all areas of the pitch. It helped to have Cavani back from injury as he dominated in the air and everywhere along the forward line and linked up really well with the other attacking players in the team, City will need Cavani to be back in form as Sergio Aguero was ruled out for the next 2 weeks. City progress to the fourth round where they will face an away trip to Barnsley.

City completely dominated the game, with nearly 70% of the possession and chances being created all the time it would have been a massive shock if they hadn’t taken three points. City opened the scoring through Cavani early on but it took until the 78th minute for man of the match Nasri to secure the points.

Man City captain Vincent Kompany signed a new 4 year deal, worth around £170,000 a week, a few days before this big game and he showed he was worth every penny when he turned home the only goal of a very messy game at Stamford Bridge. City probably deserved all three points but Chelsea will feel they could have got something from the game.

City are through to the 5th round after a convincing win, even though the score doesn’t suggest it was as easy as it was. City took a two goal lead and were always in control, and Barnsley goal came from their only shot on target. Raphael Varane scored both goals for City and is making it very difficult for manager Georgi Kinkladze to ignore him when it comes to his starting eleven in the league. In the 5th round City will face Newcastle United at the Al Mubarak Arena.

City Sign AC Milan’s El Shaarawy

Manchester City have completed the £21.5m signing of AC Milan winger Stephan El Shaarawy. El Shaarawy has been in brilliant form in Serie A this season, playing 19 games and scoring 3 goals, and City will be hoping his form will continue in the Premier League.

El Shaarawy joins City hoping to advance his career onto the next level and with City struggling on the right hand side, with Pereyra failing to make much of an impact, El Shaarawy will likely to be given a start early on in his City career.

Having played 7 times already for Italy, he will be hoping a move to England will see him play even more times for his country, and the help of fellow Italian Daniele De Rossi will aid him in that bid.
