Sporting Youth Intake 2013

Well, the date we bring in new young players has been and gone, so here are the players I've decided to take on for the future.

It was a pretty good youth intake this year, but I want to try and bring in foreign players fresh from the youth intakes of other clubs in the summer.
Michael Pickel to be the next Maradona ;P

Europa League Draws

We have been drawn against Belgian side Club Brugge in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. We should go through this tie easily, although having the second leg away in Belgium may prove difficult. The first game will be played at our ground on 4th April 2013, with the return leg in Belgium a week later.

If we manage to successfully negotiate this tie, we will play either Atletico Madrid or Liverpool, with the first leg to be played away. This will be our toughest tie of the competition so far, but I’m confident we can pull through and get to the final.

Monthly Review

As we near the end of the season, there is a bit of complacency and tiredness creeping into our league performances. We aren’t playing very well in the league recently, although still getting the wins, which is good. In Europe however, we knocked out Lille over two legs, and played pretty well overall. We have a very tough April, including two derbies, and Brugge in Europe.

League Table

We are still TEN points clear of Porto, and have sealed Champions League football for next season. We also only need to win our next three league games (Beira-Mar, Nacional, and Rio Ave) to win the Liga ZON SAGRES title for the 2012-13 season.
Fantastic win against Lille :D Last dash for glory, will it be your's? :P
Great performance from the team. I see Porto has been dominated by your team this season, huh? Good job on getting 10 points clear though. How is Izmailov? Is he a first teamer or a occasional substitute?

He plays a fair bit actually

Matthaus Pens New Contract

Sporting CP manager Lothar Matthaus has penned a new 4-year deal with the Portuguese club. Both the chairman and manager are said to be "delighted" that they have reached an agreement to keep former German international Matthaus at the club beyond the current season.

His current deal was due to run out at the end of the current season, but his team's performance so far have persuaded the Lisbon club to offer a new deal to Matthaus. His team are 10 points clear in the title race with just six games to go, and are also in the final of the League Cup, the semi-final of the Portuguese Cup, and the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

He will be on £11,000 p/w, which helps Sporting's out of control wage bill, which is due to improve massively in the summer.
I hope that this means you will continue this story beyond the first season :P

Rodriguez: "Matthaus Is A Hero"

Sporting Lisbon defender Matias Rodriguez has heaped praise on his manager Lothar Matthaus after winning his first full cap for Argentina. Matthaus brought the right-back to Portugal from Universidad de Chile in the summer transfer window, and he has been a constant in the Sporting back-line this season, persuading Argentina manager Sabella to award him his first appearance in the blue and white of Argentina.

When Rodriguez was asked what he thought about Matthaus he responded "I really can't thank him enough. He's given me a chance this season, and I was pretty expensive, which put the pressure on me to perform, which I think I have done. I've played a lot, and scored a fair few as well. My two against Benfica a couple of months ago were my favourites. I seem to be endearing myself to the fans too, and that just makes me want to perform better and better. I must have been performing exceptionally in the last few weeks, as Sabella called me up for Argentina, and when I walked onto that pitch, it was the best feeling of my career. Still, we are up for a few trophies as a club this season, and that might surpass playing for my country."

Rodriguez has played a big part in the Sporting side which lead Porto by 10 points with just games to go this season. They are also up for winning the Taca de Portugal, Taca de Liga, and UEFA Europa League. If their fabulous season continues, he will surely be there or thereabouts for player of the season.
Fantastic updates
keep going. good luck

Monthly Review

I could not have asked for a better month. We wrapped up the league title, won the League Cup, got in the final of the Portuguese League, and got one foot in the Europa League final. We also beat Benfica twice, which is a brilliant feeling. Next month is a bit tougher, with a game against Porto (our “challengers”). If we’re lucky, it’ll also include a Europa League final.

League Table

Nothing else to say apart from WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!
The quadruple is yours! Make it happen! :)
I totally agree with Nick! Beat Atletico Madrid for us mate!
