Dabool's Last Deal
Sunderland have wrapped up their last deal of the transfer window just minutes before the deadline, with Norwich winger
Anthony Pilkington joining the Black Cats for a fee of 5.5 million.
Dabool and Sunderland manager
Paolo Di Canio took charge of negotiations with Pilkington and Norwich chairman
Craig Johnson.
After the deal was completed, Dabool said, "It is a pity we were not able to sign any more players to strengthen the squad this window. It has been quite a mistake from us to act late.
"However, we now have a strong budget going into January. When I joined Sunderland, I said I would invest in this club and I meant it. You will see in January," said the Irishman, addressing Sunderland supporters.
Di Canio also had this to say: "I am very pleased with the quality of my new squad. I am going to lead them right bang into European qualification!"
It is a bold statement from Di Canio indeed.
