Transfer Summary

I have to start by admitting that this transfer window was one of the hardest of my Football Manager career. It was difficult for me to gage which areas I needed to invest in and what calibre of player I would be able to convince to join Huddersfield Town, despite now being in one of the best leagues in world football. My main aim with the transfers was not to disrupt the harmony of the current squad, bring in some Premier League experience and also some youth.

Last season two of our striking options (Jermaine Beckford and James Vaughan) had been brought in on loan in the summer before my first season in charge. Alan Lee had been released from his contract which meant we needed to improve our striking options. I decided that Carlos Fierro was essential for any success we were going to have in the future. I do think I have over-paid on him but I am hoping he can repay that transfer fee from the start. I couldn’t personally believe that Liverpool FC wanted to sell Dani Pacheco for such a small transfer fee. He had been on loan last season and just seems desperate to play regular football. Is this something I can assure him? I’m not sure he will get constant games this season but I do think he is an excellent backup option. Anthony Stokes was also looking for game time which he may not get this season but I expect him to perform when given the chance, which will more than likely be cup games.

At the end of last season we only had one first team goalkeeper in the club, Alex Smithies. It was important to bring someone in and that someone needed some Premier League experience. Despite David Stockdale coming into the club I need to ensure Alex Smithies’ abilities continue to progress which means Stockdale will be relegated to the number 2 spot this season.

I am over the moon to have acquired Danny Wilson on a season long loan and especially with the option of £5million transfer fee at any point. I can tell you now I am definitely going to be making the most this option and at the end of the season I will be putting a bid in for Danny Wilson with the hope he will want to sign on for us full time. Ryan Tunnicliffe on the other hand has been signed as a backup option for the midfield. He knows how we play as he was with us on loan last season. He is a player for the future and the cup games.

Ryan Taylor was needed for his experience in Premier League football but he has also experienced European football, which, we will be taking part in this season. He will not be coming in and replacing Danny Simpson at right back but instead is there in case of injuries but he will also be playing every European game from the start.

Despite my worries over the transfer window I am pleased with my acquisitions and my squad has been registered. I still have up to £10million available if improvements are needed in the January transfer window.

After the first three games of the season it was clear to me that my team lacked Premier League experience, especially when it come to the attacking side of our game. The issue with my current strikers was that they were very young and lacked match experience in a big league. To counter balance this I resorted to bring in Nicolas Anelka and Michael Owen (my footballing hero). They both have experience at the highest level and will be able to support the team through the season, which is destined to be a long and difficult one.

How can you say that after he went to the Red side of Manchester :'(? Anyways, I think that you might be needing to look your wingers and try to get a good winger. Look for freebies mate!
I never liked his decision to got to Manchester United but in my eyes he was a great player back in his Liverpool FC days which are the only days that matter.

I don't plan on using wingers at all in this first season in the Premier League, however, I will look to adopt my Liverpool FC tactic in my second season; that is if we manage to retain Premier League status. The LFC tactic focused on the use of wingers so I will have to look to some sign some talented players to fit into those positions.

I am not going to complain whatsoever about this start to the season. We were never going to beat Manchester City, the current Premier League champions in the Community Shield. They didn’t hold back with their starting 11 so I feel fortunate that we didn’t concede more goals than we did. The first three games couldn’t have been nicer for us. For us to come up against two sides who were in the Championship with us last season was a blessing. It was in fact the first time we had been Wolverhampton Wanderers and despite the lack of goals, we played well in all three games. The next month will be more of a test as it starts against Manchester City, the Europa League starts, there is the Capital One Cup and we finish with a trip to White Hart Lane, home of Tottenham Hotspur.

Europa League Group Draw

I am not entering this competition with any hope or thoughts that we could even come away with a point from this group draw. The teams that we have been drawn against have so much experience in European competitions and we have a distinct lack of it. It will be an enjoyable experience that will bring in the crowds and hopefully bring in some money for the club but I think the extra 6 six games will do damage to our hopes of staying in the Premier League. Only time will tell.
You never know James, it could've been worse. Perhaps third place or even second is a possibility!

It definitely could have been worse but these teams still have regular european football experience. We have none. I think it is certainly going to be a difficult campaign. Thanks for reading.

Cheers Pauker, it was great to see things go so well in our first taste of European football. Thanks for reading as always.

I wouldn’t call this the worst month ever. We had headed into the Europa League with not much positivity, I in fact said in an earlier post we would be lucky to get a single point on the board. You can imagine my surprise when we score five in our first game. It was great to get a win against Wigan Athletic and the defeats against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. We are six games into the Premier League season and we have only scored four goals...this is going to become a major worry if we don’t get into goal scoring form next month.
