Isco Leads Inter Past 10 Man AC Milan

Derby day was upon us at last, and though Inter Milan had already clinched the Scudetto, the passion of the rivalry did not die down at last. AC Milan had to be prepared; anything but a full 3 points would see the Rossoneri's slim chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League nearly dissipate.

Inter, who's squad was ravaged by injury and suspension, had a number of surprising players take up their spots in the starting XI. U20 starlet Simone Pierguidi started alongside Emerson Luiz at center back while Diego Fabbrini started on the wing in place of suspended Philippe Coutinho.

The Nerazzurri started strongly but were matched by their equally determined rivals. Both sides struggled to retain possession as they hounded each other on the defensive side of the game. AC Milan are the only team to have taken any points off of Inter all season thus far, and were showing why in this match. On the stroke of halftime, though, the Rossoneri's hard work was undone.

Daniel Schwaab had pushed up far on the right flank to join the attack and the German national slipped in winger Diego Fabbrini delightfully. The tricky Italian swept the ball past Didac and drilled in a cross toward Isco Alcorcon who slammed home the shot first time to make it 1-0 to Inter.

Midway through the second half, Andrea Poli nearly doubled his side's advantage. Nicolas Gaitan had fouled Isco just outside the area and Poli certainly fancied his chances from the free kick. However, the Italy international's dipping strike ricocheted off of the crossbar and out, sparing Juan Carrizo's net.

Late in the match, as AC Milan pushed forward for an equalizer, their chances were thrown a bitter blow as club captain Antonio Nocerino was shown a straight red card. The Milan man had lost his temper with Lorenzo Crisetig after a rough challenge and thrown an elbow into Crisetig's face, and will likely face a lengthy suspension. The match ended 1-0 to a jubilantly triumphant Inter.

"We are the best side in Milan, that's all there is to it," said a confident Giuseppe Bergomi after the match. "We can beat them even missing so many of our best players. It's sad that they won't even make the Champions League spots this season."

AC Milan manager Marco Van Basten was sacked the next day.
Great win Neal, and it's great to see Marco Van Bastan get the sack. #ForzaInter :D
Great win pal :)
The Madridista: The best part is Ernesto Valverde is the top candidate to take over for Milan, and he was the boss before Van Basten :)) My biggest feud is with Valverde (behind Conte, of course) so I'm hoping he gets the job again just so I can get him sacked again >:)

Lucas: Thanks Lukasz, we played very well and the fans love beating those rivals ;)

Louis O.: That's brilliant :))
Nice change in the match reports and a good win for Inter...there was never any doubt haha
great job Neal :D absolutely loving this story, smashed it!
Oh and I forgot to mention, Sterling is a beast ;)
k1rups: Thanks bud, and no, with us there is never any doubt :P

NVDTahir: Cheers Naveed, and yeah Raheem has been having an AMAZING season :D

Inter Take First Leg Lead Against Bayern

In 2010, Inter Milan took on Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League final and it was the Nerazzurri who came out victors on that occasion thanks to a Diego Milito brace, conquering Europe's top competition. Last year that match was revisited at the quarterfinal stage when Inter again advanced 7-5 on aggregate after a 4-4 thriller in Munich. Now, the rivalry has been renewed, once again in the quarterfinals.

The first leg was played yesterday at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan. Fernando Muslera was given the start in this key match, perhaps a sign of things to come in term's of Giuseppe Bergomi's goalkeeping choice, and Inter also continued with Diego Fabbrini as a deeper lying striker in absence of other first team forwards.

The early exchances were mainly midfield battles but 18 minutes in a certain Englishman stepped up his game. Spanish maestro Isco slipped in a delightful through pass to Sterling and the pacey winger made no mistake with the finish, drilling the ball past Neuer to the far post.

The rest of the first half past quickly, but in the second half the match truly exploded into life. Manuel Neuer was forced into a huge save against Gino Peruzzi after the right back had marauded forward before Fernando Muslera made a lunging stop shortly after against Schweinsteiger.

Late in the match with 5 minutes to go, Inter almost doubled their advantage. Yann M'Vila pinged the ball into the feet of Lorenzo Insigne whose quick shot cannoned off of the post and out, leaving the match to finish 1-0 to Inter.

"1-0 isn't a huge lead but it is a lead nonetheless," said Inter manager Giuseppe Bergomi after the match. "We know, especially after last season's match in Bavaria, that it will be a very tough match and that we will need to be 100% focused and prepared."

Inter first must play Juventus in Serie A in a relatively meaningless match, as the Nerazzurri have already won the Scudetto, before fling out to Germany for the second leg. The other first leg results are as follows:

Meaningless? I hope you lose. Bayern, leggo, beat Inter!
Pauker: I never lose ;)

Late Sneijder Goal Gives Juve Draw Against Inter

Coming off their first leg win over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, Inter Milan were immediately faced with the ever so famous Derby D'Italia as they next had to travel to Turin and take on second placed Juventus.

With the title already in hand, this match was meaningless in terms of fighting for the Scudetto. However, the fans were just as invested as ever; nothing feels better than a glorious win over your hated rivals. Though perhaps the feud died down ever so slightly after Conte left for Arsenal, everybody in Italy was ready to tune into this cracker of a match.

Just 3 minutes in, the traveling Nerazzurri fans were already off of their seats celebrating. Luca Caldirola had slid the ball into Philippe Coutinho on the left and the Brazilian playmaker wasted no time in beating his man and picking out a cross. Lorenzo Insigne was the grateful recipient and the Italian striker poked him from close range to give Inter a 1-0 lead.

Halfway through the first half, Insigne nearly doubled his tally. Coutinho led the Inter counterattack down the left before finding Moussa Sissoko who quickly turned and slipped in Insigne on the right. The in-form striker's shot, however, could only manage to find side-netting, even though half the crowd thought he had scored at first.

Most of the match then went on without serious incident, but on 79 minutes ex-Inter Milan superstar Wesley Sneijder came into the match. Just three minutes later, Luca Marrone's piercing pass on the break found the Dutch attacker in space to score a simple equalizer and send the Juventus Stadium into raptures and resulting in a final score of 1-1. Respecting the club where he had achieved so much, Sneijder did not celebrate.

"I'm delighted to have scored because I helped my team get an important draw," said the Dutchman. "However, I will never celebrate against Inter. I achieved so much in Milan, and the club did so much for me. Nerazzurri will always be in my heart."

"It was a good match between two rivals, and we deserve to split the points today," said Inter manager Giuseppe Bergomi. "Wes [Sneijder] even after all these years is still a quality player and he showed it today. We won't get hung up on this result, though; our most important match of the season so far is in a few days against Bayern, and we must be ready."
Sneijder strikes again. MWAHAHAHHA
