Belgium: Rise of the Red Devils

In modern football, it is no secret that Belgium's young team have potential to be one of the greatest in the world, starlets such as Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku leading this golden generation onward. However, in times gone by, Belgium have been praised for their talent, yet have failed to qualify for major competitions such as the 2010 World Cup or even Euro 2012.
It seems that the Red Devils need not only star players, but a star manager to command them forward. Perhaps if they can find such a manager, then they will fulfill their dreams of becoming one of the greatest teams in the world.

Good luck Toon. A Belgium story should be interesting!
Looking forward to this one! The talent Belgium have all the way through their team - Courtois and Mignolet, Kompany, Vermaelen, Van Buyten, Vertonghen, Feillani, Hazard, Dembele, De Bruyne, Witsel Lukaku, Benteke. Hope to see you lift a world cup or two
That squad has some amazing talent. I'm sure you'll be the perfect man to guide them to success
Good luck, I always keep an eye on Belgium's results for some reason, hope you can use all that potential and win some gold!

Wilmots Axed By Belgian FA

The KBVB (Belgian FA) announced their desicion to remove Mark Wilmots as coach of Belgium last night. Wilmots has been in charge of the Belgium team for only a month, but has been serving as assistant since 2009. It was seen by most pundits as a change in plans by the KBVB, not a mistake on Wilmots part.

"Initially, it was our plan to give him a season to show us if he was right for the job, as we were unsure of how fitting he was for the job. We reconsidered, and unfortunately, we have come to the conclusion that he will not be taking the Belgian national team any further. We wish him all the best, but his time here is over. We did offer him the spot of assistant manager, but he felt it was the right time for him to be the main man, and has moved on."
-Official KBVB Statement

It is unknown who will take the helm of the club following this mysterious axing, but there are several candidates, Sky Bet had provided the following odds:

H. Vanhaezebrouck 3/1 | A. Langeler 6/1 | J. van den Brom 10/1 | M. Preud'homme 17/1
I wonder who the manager will be? I don't even know who you are so I've no idea which one it will be, but I hope you are Preud'homme :D

Surprise As Mpenza Takes Control

Ex-Belgian international, Mbo Mpenza will be the man to coach Belgium for the foreseeable future, the KBVB have announced. The news of him stepping up sparked confusion and intrigued followers of Belgian football, mostly due to the fact that Mpenza has not had any management experience to date, making the step up a big one.

"We have listened to Mbo's plans and aspirations, and he seems to have vast tactical knowledge. We do think he could be the one to push us on and fulfill the teams potential. It may seem an odd choice to some, but they have not heard his ideas. We will see if he proves the critics wrong."
-Official KBVB Statement

Despite being born in Zaire, Mpenza was raised and represented Belgium. He was prominent in Belgian football and beyond in the 90s and early 2000s, earning over 50 appearances for four different clubs; Kortrijk, Standard Liège, Mouscron and perhaps the club that he was most well received at, Anderlecht. In his prime, he was a striker, belting in goals for many a club, along the way earning 56 caps for the Belgium.

"I am extremely exited to get to work here. This is a long term project, and one I am confident will be successful. With the talent the squad has, they deserve success. I am hopeful that I will be the man to guide them to their aspirations."
-Mbo Mpenza

Mpenza will now set to work on compiling tactics and preparing for the oncoming fixtures, the next being against Russia at home on the 15th of August. In the meantime, it is speculated that Mpenza will observe Belgian players all across Europe and evaluate them for his squad.
good start mate :) hope you can stick with this is as international stories dont last long as i think people get bored with the waiting to play games and such.. good luck with belgium, they have a great sqaud already :D
Great start! Isn't it Emile Mpenza though :P?
nope Emile and Mbo are brothers
Emile still "plays" but Mbo retired a couple years ago
I know people will look at me weird, but van Buyten is totally class! He's a bit slow and very old, but he is definitely CLASS! He is/was my first choice for Bayern along Badstuber, and alongside Kompany, you'll have a superb defense! Good luck Toon. :)
