Gary Neville Quits Post with England

Gary Neville has today announced that he will leave his role as part of the backroom staff with the English national team with immediate effect. The United legend has been speaking to our chief football reporter Nick Collins.

Nick : Today Gary you have called an end to your Coaching Career with England and many believe it is because of a bust up with Roy, Is there any truth in this?

Gary - (Laughs) Not at all, I have had a great relationship with Roy and all involved with England and I dont know where this story has come from. Roy gave me the opportunity of a lifetime and I had very little experience so I have a lot of respect for him. The decision was purely down to the fact I wanted to try something knew. When I was injured at United I did my coaching badges and promised that eventually I would try my luck out as a manager, and I believe it's about time. I wont say anything else just yet only that I want to work my way up, and will only be looking at teams in the very low divisions of England.

Gary later hinted that he should be back into employment within a month, as Clubs all across england's lowest tiers will be looking to land his signiture.
I think he will get a job at Carshalton :))

It's been Confirmed

Gary Neville has accepted what will be his first job as manager of a football club. After resigning from his post with the FA, The bookies have been packed with punters placing bets on which lower league team Gary would join. Many had predicted he would chance his luck in League 1 or League 2, but quite remarkably the man with 85 England caps chose Carshalton, a team who compete in the Ryman premier league, a staggering 3 divisions below the Football League!

Gary Neville : "It's a great opportunity for me so I had to take it. People will question why I wanted to go so deep into the English leagues and it's simple, I need to learn. I had a talks with 4 clubs whom I wont name but Gary Roberts (Chairman) convinced me that this club had a bright future and I wanted to be a part of that. Obviously it will take me a while to adjust to life as a manager and I want the fans to remain patient with me, but hopefully It will be a successful start for me and a new era for the club"

Club Background

Carshalton Athletic F.C. is an English football club based in Carshalton in the London Borough of Sutton. They currently play in the Ryman Premier Division and are based at the War Memorial Sports Ground (also known as Colston Avenue).

Carshalton Athletic traces its roots to two separate teams playing in the area of Wrythe Green in Carshalton in the early twentieth century. Whilst the club's history is dated to the formation of Mill Lane Mission in 1905 it also recognises the importance of officials, players and supporters of Carshalton St Andrews in its history.

After a £12 million plan to rebuild the ground fell through, chairman Steve Friend resigned, followed by manager Billy Smith. Under Jimmy Bolton, Carshalton retained their place in the Conference South in 2004–05, but in 2005–06, the club's centenary season, they were relegated back to the Isthmian League

Carshalton Athletic's main rivals include Sutton United, AFC Wimbledon (although since Wimbledon are now three leagues higher in the pyramid the rivalry is not reciprocated by their fans), Kingstonian, and Tooting & Mitcham.
Carshalton have a fierce rivalry with their nearest neighbours Sutton United as they are both based in the London Borough of Sutton. Throughout the two clubs history's the 'Derby' matches have been contested in both the Isthmian League and the Conference South and always draw crowds of over 1,000. The most recent game was a pre-season friendly when Sutton won 2–0.

Interesting choice of club. Good luck!
Oooh, it would appear that Carshalton are one of my local teams. Didn't know that :O
It will be interesting to see if you stick with this and manage to get the club into the football league - nobody ever seems to stick at it. On another note, I despise Gary Neville the footballer but do like him as a pundit. Good luck.
Hope this'll be successful! Wonder if you'll ever get to Championship/Premier League status? (probably not for a very long while)
Started from the bottom now we're here :P
Nice, good luck.

Sorry but that's a crap song.
woah really setting yourself a challenge :p looking forward to seeing the progress!
I hate Neville's commentary. So, I'm glad I don't have to hear him during CL matches now :D

Busy Pre-Season

Gary Neville undertook his first training session with Carshalton today and we managed to get a quick word with him just before he left. The former England International wore a suit to training and was stamping his authority on the squad, most notably in one drill when a bad pass was made, he forced the young man to wash the jerseys for the rest of the month! Our chief reporter Nick Collins was down at the War Memorial ground to speak to Gary.

Nick : "Your first time seeing the lads in action Gary, What's your initial thoughts on your squad?"

Gary : "Well, obviously it will take a bit more time before I can get a proper look but one or two have really Impressed me today, especially Ashley Carew, the boy really stood out for me today. But others, they couldn't pass a football if you paid them! And the extraordinary thing is thats what some of the are being paid to do!! There will be changes in the next few days, there has to be if we want to achieve our goals."

Nick : "What would you be happy with this season?"

Gary : "Promotion. Simple as"

The player mentioned by Gary was Ashley Carew, the highest earner at the club on 600p/w. Many people believe that he will be vital towards any success Carshalton will have this season, but he will need quality around him. The Englishman can play in a number of positions but the talk on the street is that he will be operating on the right this season.
