HAJDUK STUN VÉLODROME IN THE FINAL TWENTY MINUTES
MARSEILLE 2-3 HAJDUK T. PESI? ('73), F. ANDRIJAŠEVI? ('78), T KIŠ (pen, '89)
Hajduk finally fielded a reserve squad. They had won the group, the final match in Marseille was purely so a few players could get a run out. Hot prospect, Hrvoje Žlidar replaced the only foreigner on Hajduk's team: Erik Janža, at left back. The back line was composed of perpetual backups, Josip Tomaševi? and Andrija Fiorentini, of which only the latter is still young, and Ivan Džoni started up front, for the third game in a row.

They planned on losing, and it looked like they would. Marseille's American captain, Michael Bradley (//captain of USA, not of Marseille. Sorry//), scored from just outside the box in the 13th minute, and, after the half, he scored again, in the 68th, to extend the lead. Hajduk was out. They were still top, but they were out of that match.

And then the Croatian's bothered to show up. Teo Pesi? lined up an easy shot on from the corner of the box just 5 minutes after Bradley's screamer. It was a small goal, but it counted.

Vélodrome got louder, but it was to late. The run of play had changed, and, with just that goal, the momentum had changed.

Antonio Mili? got a rebound off of a failed corner kick. Žlidar had tried something, but it just got headed out. Mili? passed the ball to someone from the middle, who, running towards the middle of the pitch, softly touched it sideways to Franko Andrijaševi?.

At 30 meters.

The midfielder saw the chance though, and, against anyone's best interest, fired the ball towards the goal. Somehow, it floated above Mandanda, and into the top corner. Hajduk's small travelling support was screaming. This was something else. Easily the goal of the tournament for the equalizer... what could be better.

And then it happened. As late as it could've possibly happened Kiš danced into the box, only to be clumsily brought down just inside the lines.

3 hours later, a flight arrived from Marseille into Split's airport. Bendiš walked right through the crowd to his fiancée, but the players? They stopped, and basked in the glory. This was their turn. And, if Marseille didn't prove it to them, then no one could

HAJDUK SIGN NEXT BIG THING
TRANSFER WINDOW SHENANIGANS
For the first time ever, Bendiš signed someone from Brazil.

Long has Bendiš lamented the laziness of Brazilians, that their technical ability of playing on the sands of the beaches in Rio was not worth dealing with their lack of drive in training. It was the years of conditioning of playing on the beach for an hour before giving into the pleasures of a gorgeous woman who had been waiting. The problem? They can't play for more than an hour.

But that changed, when Bendiš was spotted at the airport. His fiancée dropped him off, wished him luck, and he was on his way to Paris. A short cup of coffee in the center, before, 6 hours later, Bendiš was on his way to São Paulo. This was a special occasion. Bendiš had heard about this kid from his scouts. He had heard about him from his first scout, and he didn't believe it, so he sent a second one... and still skeptical, sent Rachid Petit, who was in Tunis at the time, to watch a 15 year old play.

The results were astounding.

Rachid Petit's report was a work of art. Rumor has it that Bendiš flew from Interlaken, where he had been skiing, down to Libya to pick Petit up at the airport and ask if the French scout was serious.

He was. Very.

"Igor is, perhaps, the most talented, hardworking 15 year old I have ever seen. It is truly a miracle that he had not made the team already, considering the talent that he has on the ball. Sign him, and sign him, fast... because if any other team shows up: Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan... he's gone. He'll be gone so fast, and you'll watch him win the Champions League every single time.

"This isn't an ordinary Brazilian. He's not the best technical player in the world. Far from it. But he is the hardest working player I have ever seen. And I've seen Hajduk play"

"Okay Rachid... Okay"

And, now, two days later, Bendiš was on a flight to Brazil, to see if he could pick up the next big thing.

He arrived in São Paulo, dressed in shorts, flip flops, a linen button down shirt, and his - by now - trademark Ray-Bans, and was picked up, in the scorching weather of January in Brazil, in the club's official car, for the long ride down to Santos.

An hour and a half later, after some creative driving through rush hour in the city center, Bendiš stepped out onto, what was essentially the beach that was Santos, and walked into the club's headquarters. There was a giant mural of former players on the wall, Pelé was featured prominently with a beautiful scissor kick, before he reached the office of the club president, and they sat down together to discuss terms.

It didn't start well. Bendiš was lowballing on purpose. The player of interest was worth only 40000€. He started off with 500 000 €, and the Santos president handily rejected it. Then Bendiš offered a million, then two, before Ramalho finally started listening. Then, the Brazilian wanted 5.5, plus an extra 45% of the profit.

Bendiš laughed, and took out a briefcase. He remembered it bitterly when Allegri did the same thing in his café. But it was the way the world worked. Incidentally, it was the same briefcase... new money though.

"This is 3.5 million euros in cash. I'll give you this, and a friendly against the future European Champions for Igor"

Ramalho was torn. This was a 15 year old. This was not a hostile negotiation, unlike the one he had heard Milan make for Mijo ?aktaš. He didn't need to accept it. But he did.

Igor's agent was the most forgiving, and fair (if a bit greedy) South American agent Bendiš had ever come across. And, with a neat signature, Igor, the Brazilian with the Croatian name, became Hajduk's first Brazilian import in nearly a decade.

He looks absolutely spectacular, Timmy. Hopefully he does well for you :)
He better not be injury prone :P

Oh God, I hope not
Igor looks freakin' fantastic! Get him training as soon as he gets in Croatia, or he will be an entire flop!

KIŠ SCORES TWO TO DOWN FENERBAHÇE IN ISTANBUL
FENERBAHÇE 0-2 HAJDUK T. KIŠ x2
In a relatively even match, it was down to, arguably, the best striker in Europe to make the difference, as Tomislav Kiš took his few chances with both hands and made the best of them. Benoit Costil was trying to prove to the France and Hajduk manager, Bendiš, that he deserved a spot in France's first team over the 19 year old Steven Louis, but, at 30, he may have picked up his last France cap.

To be brutally honest, it looked like Hajduk would run away with it. Ivan Džoni fluffed the first chance of the match, but Tomislav Kiš stepped up beautifully to take his. A neat one-two with Ton?i Mujan - who is, incidentally, fighting for the injured Pero Baši?'s spot on the Croatia team - gave him a beautiful run in the middle and, as is customary, the Croatian #9 smashed the ball off both posts and into the net.

Then... outrage, as a certain Papiss Cissé made an obvious flop in the box off of Erik Janža. It was obvious to all but the referee it seems, as he called a penalty. Bendiš was livid. Furious. There were no words to describe him, as he was up in the 4th official's face. Let's not forget that Bendiš isn't exactly short, and, at 26, were it not for his knee, could very well be playing up alongside Kiš as a target man, seeing as he trains with the team. Petrified, the 4th official stood firm, and both of them watched together as Cissé ran up, and promptly hit the post to keep Hajduk in control.

Not 10 minutes later, in the 58th, Mato Jajalo, the only Croatian on the pitch not playing for Hajduk brought down Kiš in the box. Kiš, unlike Cissé, does not mess up penalties, and, with Costil going the other way, Kiš essentially booked Hajduk's tickets into the quarterfinals, before Hajduk even play at Poljud.

"We have to take this one game at a time. Pero Baši? is coming back in the next few weeks, as is Teo Pesi?, and these are two very important players for the club. While Mujan may disagree, it is to the best interest of the club that I can pull him on in the last half hour and watch him run circles around the opposition. He has played superbly since Baši? got injured, but we can hardly wait for him to come back.

Bendiš told the few Croatian reporters that came down to Istanbul, "One match at a time guys... this is the same team as last year... more or less. We can take this one to the end. We just need to take this one match at a time."

It was a lonely flight back to Split. Bendiš's fiancée couldn't make it this time, so, unlike his usual trips, he looked down and stared at the lights of the Bosphorous before drifting to sleep, only awaking as the plane touched down in Trogir, where his best friend was waiting on the runway in the little Fiat with the big motor.

You know, when some guy in France pays you 2.1 million euros a year, and you're making approximately 200 times the average salary of the country... you can put all sorts of stuff in the little Fiat...

Relax, it only has 240 horsepower... for, what... 500 kilos? That's not that bad
