Thinking For The Future: Oriental Goals
We were approaching the third month of the season in November. I was looking forward to that month and the games. I scanned over the fixtures, some winnable games. But as well as looking forward to November, I was looking forward to the next five to ten seasons.
I opened my notepad and began jotting down some notes of goals for the future of this club that I hope to see at this club under my reign.
1. Youth Facilites
To even get near Sporting and Benfica's levels, we need very good youth facilities, but I am not settling for
very good facilities. I want Oriental to have
State of the Art youth facilities. I want to be producing some of the best young talents Portugal, and the world has ever seen. Maybe, one day, SL Benfica's
Eagle Academy will be forgotten when everyone aspires to join Oriental's youth academy.
2. Starting XI
The
Premier League's image is getting ruined these days by the incredible amount of
foreigners plying their trade in England. In other countries such as
Spain, Italy, France and here in Portugal, more
homegrown players are competing. In my match day XI, I want to have at least
5 Portuguese players
on the field. This will boost Portugal's profile as one of the best home grown countries in the world.
3. Win The League
With Sporting's demise in the league in recent times, the league is turning into a non-competitive league. Like in
Spain, where the league is continuously domainated by
Real Madrid and
Barcelona. In
Germany it has turned into a two horse race between
Bayern and
Dortmund. Germany is a little better than Spain, in the act that there are regular challenges from Leerkusen and Schalke. I am not even going to mention
Scotland.
4. Win a European Competition
Apart from Porto's reent success in the
Europa League and their not so long ago Mourinho-inspired UCL triumph, Portugal have been dire in Europe. Benfica and Porto rarely reach the past the quarter finals and Benfica have struggled to get past the
groups in some seasons. If Oriental could
win the Europa and then Champions League, it would not only put Oriental on the map, but
Portugal.
5. Stadium
The
Estádio da Luz, Jose Alvalade and Dragão are brilliant, fine stadia. We can get better, and rival Sporting's
Jose Alvalade which is visible from our current site. If we can get more than a
60,000 seats, I will be more than pleased. This is final piece of the 5-piece puzzle. All these things above, can make us the
best club in the world, which is the final result of these five pieces.
