La Liga Table

Our Player of the Month

Gorka Iraizoz

Iraizoz was fundamental for us this month, keeping 4 out of 5 clean sheets. His assurance between the post and communication skills were key to keeping the team organised and safe from conceding leads.

Oceano’s Verdict

We were not as good as the previous two months but ultimately it’s the result that really matters and we got them. We continue are dream at the top of La Liga by distancing ourselves from Barcelona and got 3 wins out of 4. Valencia was always going to be a tough team, especially at the Mestalla so I’ll take a point and we also progressed comfortably to the next round of the Copa Del Rey as anticipated.
Outstanding season so far!

FIRST CAP FOR SUSAETA

Markel Susaeta has thanked all at Athletic Bilbao after being included in Vicente Del Bosque’s Spain squad versus Serbia.

The winger’s rich form has seen him utilised alongside Barcelona’s Martin Montoya after scoring five and assisting two for Bilbao this season.

Susaeta has shown his gratitude to ‘Los Leones’ boss Oceano Cruz who he feels has gotten the side playing fantastic football again after Marcelo Bielsa’s summer departure.

“He’s a great manager and I admire him a lot. He come under difficult circumstances but won us over in the process and now we find ourselves top of the league.

“He makes everyone feel special which is great for unity. He’s always the first to congratulate you when you have a good game and that builds up your confidence massively.

“It’s thanks to him I have impressed and got into the Spain squad and I just want continue showing what I can do.”

With Bilbao sitting top of La Liga, Susaeta coy on the idea of winning the title but admitted anything is possible from now until June.

“Anything can happen at the moment. We are only in December so there is a lot of football to be played still but who knows?

“Nobody predicted we would be 1st ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid at the beginning. I couldn’t imagine getting a phone call from Del Bosque either but here I am in Spanish colours.

“Everything is possible and for that reason we must remain completely focused and take it one game at a time. Time will tell.”

By the way, have you got any signings planned for January? If so who?
What an ridicoulous low amount of goals against o.0

I have a signing made already set for revelation in January. Other than that, I don't really have my eye on anyone, nor do I have much to look at :P There's a lot of interest in my players after our great start so we may be replacing rather than adding where we can. It's a mystery at the moment though.
Would be awkward if Del Bosque never played him :P But I'm sure he won't ;)
Congrats on that though, might not sound like a lot but I take pride when my players get their first call-ups :D

GURPEGI TRANSFER AGREED

Athletic Bilbao captain Carlos Gurpegi has agreed a deal with Granada after ‘Los Leones’ accepted a £1 million offer.

Gurpegi signs a new two year contract with Granada after requesting a change of scenario to new boss Oceano Cruz.

The Spanish holding midfielder pens a deal until 2014 which will see him earn over £20,000 a week with Granada.

Gurpegi is likely to be a fundamental piece of Granada’s squad as a replacement for Mikel Rico who moved Real Sociedad for £2 million last summer.
