I really didn't think that things would go as well as they did. I am quietly confident that we could win the competition...that might just keep me my job! Ha!

3 – 4

Chelsea had been lucky to have progress from the fifth round of the competition after a close call against Brighton and Hove Albion. Wise has commented after the game and suggested that his Chelsea side did not deserve to win the game and would have to perform at a much higher level if they were even going to start thinking about winning the competition.

Chelsea headed into this game confident of winning but they did not expect another tough challenge from the Championship side. Robert Lewandowski has not been shy of a few goals this season and he demonstrated just how able he is in the hat trick that he scored in this sixth round tie. Lewandowski scored two of his goals within 26 minutes and it seemed to have put the game beyond doubt.

Derby came back with a goal from Jeff Hendrick just before half term and it seemed to give them a new found confidence. It was unfortunate for Derby that the half term whistle blew when it did as the momentum was definitely with the Derby team. Their confidence was knocked when Branislav Ivanovic grabbed a goal straight away after the whistle blew for the second half. Chelsea then went four one up when Lewandowski got himself his hat trick goal; his first of his Chelsea career. The Chelsea then seemed to relax, which Dennis Wise has slated them for, as Derby got two more goals to bring the score to 4-3. It was a nervous last few minutes as Derby threw everything they had at the Chelsea defence who started to make silly mistakes.

The North London club managed to see out the remaining minutes and it has seen them progress to the next round. Chelsea has been drawn against Manchester City at The City of Manchester Stadium. Chelsea will have to go back to the drawing board if they think they are going to beat the current Premier League champions as they seem to have struggled against two Championship sides.
Oh dear conceding 3 goals against Derby.....
Close game but good to see you get the win eventually. Good update as usual :)
wellsy1498: Admittedly it was another team that I under estimated. It was quite a frustrating match as, no offense to Derby, we should be dismissing them with a lot more ease!

lwalter66: It was too close to call and the result should have been a lot more comfortable. I do like games like that though...they add a bit of tension to the game!
That must have been a fun game to watch! xD

It was nerve racking lets say. We should have played so much better than we did.

Dennis Wise speaking to Chelsea TV:

Despite us having won every game in the Premier League so far, and breaking records along the way, we refuse to discuss the possibility of us winning the title. Yes we have a comfortable lead and are brimming with confidence but there is still a lot of football left to play. Most notably we have key games left against Manchester United and Arsenal which won’t be easy ties.

Stoke City are a very difficult team to break down and they showed just how good they are at defending; we didn’t have a sniff of a chance and we were fortunate to have come away with the three points. The rest of the Premier League games this month went a lot more according to plan with us getting the goals we needed. I cannot understand Everton’s decision to let a quality manager like David Moyes leave. If any manager was going to get them out of the relegation zone it was going to be David Moyes. The club just didn’t play with the same confidence that they use to and they gifted us four chances that we gladly took.

The match against Sunderland was a very confident performance and rounded out of an important month. It was essential that we continued our brilliant run of form and did not start to become complacent which we did so successfully. Over the next few games we will need to ensure we don’t become relaxed and still put in 100% into every game as we could still throw all our hard work away and come away with nothing.
A great month overall. You must have the title within your grasp

Every month just seems to go so well for us. The title is within our grasp but it is too early still to be talking about it :)

3 – 1

The Chelsea manager, Dennis Wise, spoke of his delight when the draw was made for the quarter final stage of the Champions League as his side managed to avoid the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. The biggest surprise of the draw is that Belgian side Club Brugge were even in the draw. The underdogs had managed to bypass Borussia Dortmund on the away goal ruling and earned their place in the quarter final draw. Wise was even more made up at the fact that his side would be playing at home for the first leg. He took the opportunity to thank the fans for their incredible support in his first year as Chelsea manager. He suggested that at times the fans had been the twelfth man when the club had found it hard to get into matches and their encouragement meant they came away with all three points in all their Premier League and Champions League games so far this season.

Chelsea paid back their fans support with the 3-1 beating of Club Brugge in front of a packed stadium. It didn’t take them long neither as Juan Mata slotted their first goal within nine minutes of the kick off. Goals from Gary Cahill and Robert Lewandowski followed shortly after and these goals appeared to put the tie beyond doubt. Mohammed Tchite appeared to give the Belgian side a glimmer of hope with a late goal which will see them go into the next round with what could be a crucial away goal.

0 – 1

The second leg of the tie was a much calmer affair in terms of goals scored but instead we saw more cards shown and players injured. Unfortunately for Club Brugge the cards (with one being a red) and players injured occurred within their team. The changes that had to be made appeared to disrupt their squad harmony and made it a much more comfortable game for Chelsea. An early goal from John Terry sealed Chelsea’s position in the semi final of the competition. Having already won three competitions so far this season there is high confidence around Stamford Bridge that they may just be able to retain their Champions League trophy.

The only unfortunate incident for Chelsea in the second leg was an injury sustained by John Terry shortly after he scored. News has reached the media that Terry will be sidelined for up to three weeks after suffering a twisted ankle. The Chelsea fans have expressed their concern at the poor standards of their club’s physiotherapy team if players are being kept out of the game for such a long time after such a minor injury. Wise has responded to this criticism and has explained that the physio team was one that was not changed at the beginning of the season and is one that he has full confidence in.

John Terry will be disappointed to miss out on the upcoming game against Manchester City in the semi final of FA Cup.
Some solid wins in the CL. Tough to lose Terry, but I'm sure you can soldier on without. Btw, I think you have a coding error :P

I was quite surprised to see Club Brugge in that stage of the competition. Terry hasn't played too many games this season so I know we will get by with no problems whatsoever.
Unlucky on the Terry injury there :P
