FIFA Club World Championships

Semi Final

2 – 0

The World Club Championships is not seen as prestigious competition within English football but it will be seen as another competition that Chelsea will have wanted to win early on into this season.

Not many of the Chelsea fans will have heard of CF Monterrey before today’s game; CF Monterrey have earned the opportunity to take part in this year’s tournament after winning the North American Champions League. The unknown club take part in the Mexican First Division. Unfortunately for them they were not expected to make it any further past the semi final stage after they were drawn against Chelsea.

Despite the low expectations CF Monterrey took the match to Chelsea in the first half with them creating a couple of chances. After the first half their creative play fizzled out and gradually Chelsea took control of the game. Chelsea helped themselves to a goal from the spot from Frank Lampard. The inform Robert Lewandowski took control of the game and put in beyond doubt and helped himself to another goal in his debut season for Chelsea. Chelsea comfortably saw out the rest of the game to set up a final against Corinthians.

Final

3 – 1

Prior to the game Dennis Wise spoke of his excitement to taking his Chelsea side to their first ever Club World Championship final. He explained his eagerness to get the game underway and that the team had the same feelings about the upcoming game.

Despite comfortably winning the game after goals from Ayew, Lampard and Ba, Dennis Wise has slated the way that Corinthians went about the game. He suggested that they hadn’t even wanted to take part in the final but instead just kick his side off the pitch. The fans saw three Corinthian players receive yellow cards, followed by two of them receiving two red cards. Unfortunately for Marko Marin, who had started the game, which is a rare occurrence for him this season, was injured as a result of the disgraceful tackle from Paulinho. Wise did not say how long Marin would be sidelined for but it did not look good.

Wise went onto praise his team for their participation in the competition and congratulated the on the third trophy they have won so far this season.
Congratulation on the title. Already 3 titles in December, nice job ;)

It has been a very good season so far so Dennis Wise can have no complaints whatsoever :)

Torres and Ba shown the exit

Since the arrival of Robert Lewandowski, Fernando Torres, along with Demba Ba, have had to settle for spending more time on the bench than the pitch. Torres has appeared disheartened, especially as he stated at the beginning of the season that he aimed to make amends for a poor first two seasons at the Norton London club. He even promised the Chelsea fans that he would live up to the £50 million fee that Chelsea paid for him. This has been a very difficult task with Lewandowski being Dennis Wise’s first choice striker.

Today Fernando Torres has been shown the door with him signing on at German side Borussia Dortmund on a season long loan. The deal involves Dortmund paying Chelsea a monthly fee of £200k with the option to sign Torres for a £10 million. Unfortunately for Chelsea this would see Chelsea make a loss of £40 million. It seems like Dortmund won’t utilise the optional future fee but instead give him the game time that he has craved.

We have also seen Demba Ba been signed by Turkish side Galatasary on a permanent deal for £9.75 million which has seen Chelsea make a small profit on the £7 million that they paid Newcastle United at the end of last season. Demba Ba has been annoyed at the lack of game time (only 8 appearances). Whereas the fans have not voiced any discontent at the sale of Torres they have expressed concern that Ba has been allowed to leave after very little time to settle into the club. They have suggested that Dennis Wise has been too rash in his decision making; this is a very similar situation to that of the signing of Andre Ayew.

The good news that has come from these two departures is that it has added more intensity to the rumours that Radamel Falcao could be joining Chelsea during this January transfer window. Falcao appears to have expressed an interest in a move in order to challenge himself elsewhere. Chelsea will have to engage in another transfer battle for a player’s signature but instead of it being against Manchester United, this time it will be against their North London rivals, Arsenal.

Official Club Announcement

Chelsea Football Club has today announced the signing of Abel Hernandez from Italian side Palermo for a reported fee of £4.5 million. Chelsea fans had been expressing concerns that the club had allowed two of their three strikers, Torres and Ba, leave for other clubs without having identified any replacements. Fortunately for them their apprehension has been short lived with the club signing Hernandez. Abel Hernandez has reportedly been disappointed with the lack of first team action at Palermo with him instead being used as a substitute. This resulted in the Uruguayan striker handing in a transfer request. It has appeared that Chelsea have not wasted anytime in agreeing a deal firstly with Palermo but then the personal terms with the player.

Hernandez will be paid a wage of £22k a week, which along with their very small transfer fee, appears to have been some good business on the part of Dennis Wise and Chelsea’s Director of Football, Fabio Paratici. Hernandez took the time to speak to Chelsea TV and stated his delight at the opportunity he has been given so early in his career. He has said he cannot wait to get started and is looking forward to joining a successful club that has high ambitions that he hopes he can contribute to.
Abel Hernandez for £4.5m is a massive bargain! You deserve a pat on the back for that :D

I couldn't quite believe that we managed to get him so cheap despite him handing in a transfer request which obviously helped. It is going to be hard to get him into the team as first choice as Lewandowski has done so well. I have to try and not hinder this development though...decisions decisions.

The third round of the FA Cup is seen as the round of the competition where teams below the Premier League have the chance to go down in history. They have the chance to knock out one of the big teams and it is something that all Premier League clubs fear.

Fortunately for both Chelsea and Newcastle United they managed to avoid this but instead be drawn against each other. Chelsea headed into the game after a very impressive start to the season with them only suffering defeat once all season (penalty loss against Spurs in the Capital One Cup.) Newcastle have managed to meet expectations so far this season with them sitting mid-table. The departure of Hatem Ben-Arfa to Manchester City is being seen as a big factor in their poor showing this season in the Premier League.

Chelsea’s greater confidence showed from the outset with it only taking Juan Mata to make his mark on the match by getting the first goal; Mata went onto get the man of the match award. David Luiz scored a goal on the stroke of half time and you could see the heads of the Newcastle players dropping as they walked off the pitch.

It only took Chelsea five minutes after half time to get them another goal to make it even more comfortable with Abel Hernandez the scorer. However, Yoan Gouffran of Newcastle grabbed a consolation goal before Gary Cahill sealed the game with a strong header. Chelsea will head into the next round of the competition with huge confidence despite being drawn against North London rivals, Arsenal.
Great Result! :)
Hernandez is a great signing, good debut for him :)
What Neal said :P hahah
I only wish we could destroy Newcastle in real life.
Nathaniel: Short and sweet! Thank you.

Neal: I am not sure how much game time he will get but I am sure he will do well when he is given the chances.

Pauker: See above :P

Jozef: I am sure Chelsea will destroy Newcastle this coming season, don't worry.

The FA Cup is seen as one of the most prestigious and famous domestic cup competitions in the footballing world. It is a tournament followed worldwide with many a player remembering their first ever experience in the competition. The tournament is seen as the opportunity for the “smaller” clubs of English football the chance to become “giant killers” and beat one of the “bigger” clubs.

Fortunately for both Chelsea and Arsenal they managed to avoid meeting one of the “lesser” teams and become victims of any giant killing. Instead they faced each other in a North London derby which was seen as the tie of the round with both clubs determined to progress to the next round.

From the moment that the referee blew his whistle it looked like Chelsea were going to dominate until the finish. By the end of the game they had created 15 chances, despite not having the greater possession of the ball and unfortunately they only got 5 of the 15 shots on target. As usual in a clash between Chelsea and Arsenal the yellow cards appeared more than goals with nine players being booked by the end of the game.

A rash foul by the Subotic (Arsenal) in the 74th minute provided Hazard with the chance to covert from the spot which he did so confidently. This was the only goal of the game with the players on the pitch spending more time trying to kick each other off the pitch. This intense rivalry spilled into the tunnel after the game with reported trouble between the two sets of players. It is not clear what sparked the incident but the FA have confirmed that they will be looking into the incident and conducting an investigation.

So far in the competition we have seen Chelsea face two Premier League opponents but the fifth round draw has seen them pitted against Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion at the American Express Community Stadium.
Nice update but why did you have to win come on we need to win something :P
