This story will be interesting to follow, I use a Moneyball and Soccernomics influenced strategy for my Everton team in my story, and it's been pretty successful so far. It'll be interesting to see if the conclusions you come to about market inefficiencies are the same or different as mine.

OM,The New Moneyball?

Margarita Louis-Dreyfus has called an press conference to Robert Louis Dreyfus training ground

"there's a lot of speculation about the future manager of OM, Today I will put that to rest. The new manager played for OM in the early to mid 1990's, 1998 World Cup winner with France to name a few accolades, yes..It's Franck Leboeuf"

http://s1330.photobucket.com/user/Bourani/media/frank_leboeuf_2011_09_13_zps2ad524b2.jpg.html

Here are the terms in the contract

  • No buying of first team players over the age of 25.
  • The wage bill must not be in full control with no wages higher than 70k/pw
  • Average age of first team squad be no higher than 28.
  • The club will not give a transfer budget. All money must be from sold players.
  • All transfer budget will go towards maintaining state of the art youth and training facility's

  • These are the significant terms of the contract.

    Now Meet Franck Leboeuf

Press"You have just been given the reins to OM, with those terms in your contract the job just got significantly harder, with no backroom experience do you worry about failure?"

Franck Leboeuf"Honestly? No, not at all, the possibility of failure motivates me even further, As with the no backroom experience? I've already approached experienced international world class coaches to well coach the senior team"

Press A rather simple question. What are your plans on the transfer market?

Franck Leboeuf Unfortunately due to wanting to make my mark on the team i'll be selling a few star players to cash in, Most of them have release clauses which make it hard to build a team around if they're not willing to re-sign to raise the clause"

Franck Leboeuf I will go meet the lads now and need to meet my staff, with our pre-season tour in just 2 weeks. A lot needs to be done. Until next time, Thank you!

    Making A Mark

From the outside it would just be an regular first day of pre-season. But on the inside it's far from it, OM have undergone an overhaul throughout the club, New manager, coaches, and locker room, everything's been changed to a point where even the veterans can't recognize the place.

Their's new coaches across the board with a lot of the new coaches experienced on the international level, with many top club experience it's as if Franck Leboeuf has an desire to surround himself with reliable coaches, clever thinking for an untried manager and coach.

Franck Leboeuf has undergone an evaluation of the entire squad and has reportably put Andre Ayew onto the transfer list, claiming " Ayew will be poached, I can't have my most important forward being bought midway through a season, Best to cash in and spend on youth.

Other players Franck Leboeuf has transfer listed is Jeremy Morel with the 28 year old not in the plans and doesn't fit the youth first policy being implemented. Morel only lasted 1 year year with OM, He was an loyal servant for 1 year now he has been shown the door.

The third and final player to be transfer listed was new recruit Dimitri Payet, What may come as a surprise to some being a new recruit, Payet didn't want to be apart of a experimental project, claiming youth can't win, with potential arguments causing potential unrest, it was best if all party's moved on.

Transfer target's cannot be confirmed nor denied but it is believed Franck Leboeuf is targeting youth for the spine of the pitch, especially the midfield, more on this as it comes.
It's interesting because those are some of the same rules I use, not that strictly, obviously, I splurge for a player every so often but in order to construct the team I never get players older than 25. The great thing is if you are adept at the transfer market you can make your club rich and have more room to play with.
Andre Ayew on the transfer list? Not sure about that but a great start to this. Reminds me of my Olympique Lyonnais story I had no transfer budget and had to sell players in order to buy and always had an average age of 23 or below haha but good luck mate I will defo follow as it will be interesting to see how you do in France with those rules

Yeah, It's tough to list him, but I decided his brother was the better option to move forward, With the funds from Ayew I can/have signed a few young stars for the future.

Your Lyon story was inspiration to write! so cheers.

The game wasn't a challenge anymore.. So I decided to make rules strict.

I feel it's vital for the story to do it this way also. Watch how it turns out :P OM will be rich with this method.

    New Staff

In the first sign of the Leboeuf reign has begun with several new signings. He has brought his own coaches to help him adjust to his new role. They all bring their own little specialties. Although one thing in particular stands out. All of his new coaches have experience working with young players and are capable of even motivating Justin Bieber to retire.

All of these coaches would be beneficial to any backroom staff.

    OM Transfer News

    http://s1330.photobucket.com/user/Bourani/media/Sold1_zpsf52bfc13.jpg.html
Andre Ayew The star of OM has been sold to Manchester City after City activated Ayew's release clause of £15.75M Both the staff fans and players are saddened to see Ayew leave but Andre's little brother is hoping to fill the void left by his sibling.

    http://s1330.photobucket.com/user/Bourani/media/sold3_zpse1289fea.jpg.html
The second departure from OM was Jeremy Morel, who will be joining Anderlecht for £1.5M After being determined to prove his worth to the team Morel couldn't bypass the requirements, He had high wages whilst being one of the elder state-men in the squad.

    http://s1330.photobucket.com/user/Bourani/media/sold2_zps0a6ffcd1.jpg.html
The other departure from OM was newly signed Dimitri Payet to Stuttgart for £5M Payet hit out at the officials at OM for signing him then selling him in a matter of weeks. It's fair to say he didn't leave on the best of terms with the club.

Overall profit from the sellings is £21M,£23Mwith addons.
Good incomes. Are you going to spend it all on transfers? Youths?

Overall all of the funds were invested in the youth. With another signing invested at the end of the window.

    New Crop of Young Guns

As the world anticipated Franck Leboeuf first signal in the market a lot of business was going on to satisfy the backroom staff. They were clearly eager to have their first signing be the right one with weeks of preparation preparing them for their potential signing. What sort of player will be their choice? With all these questions coming up in the media Leboeuf swifly signed their first player

    http://s1330.photobucket.com/user/Bourani/media/Praet_zps8ec94647.jpg.html
Dennis Praet is an young Belgian midfielder coming through during the golden generation for the Belgians, already with 1 cap to his name at the tender age of 18 is touted as an possible star of the future.£3.8M was spent luring Praet to OM and with many years ahead of him this is truly a bargain.

    http://s1330.photobucket.com/user/Bourani/media/nealmaupay_zps79dde4b3.jpg.html
Not even a day later Leboeuf had his second signing of his reign with signing OGC Nice young gun Neal Maupay signing for £1.3M compensation for the highly touted 16 year old, playing like someone far beyond his years his potential is limitless and under the tutalage at OM he could well become the next French superstar

With combined wages of £25k/pw it's considered within the walls of OM as marvelous buiseness with just these 2 signing's taking up former OM player Jeremy Morel wages, I know who i'd choose..2 young guns or a back up?
Nice signing, check Ademilson from Brazil, a very interesting player for your team if you need a striker.

PD: Your start of the story is so true, the big clubs with a lot of money are buying the good players from the little teams with low income and making them impossible to try to win the league.

    Cheers mate for the tip.

As for the start of the story, I wanted to try a new perspective because it's happening a lot.
Maupay and Praet are nice additions. Not sure about selling Payet though
