25 July 2016

Steve Round burst into my office in a hurry.

I looked up at him blankly. "Hey Steve. You were supposed to come at 9... it's only 8, isn't it? Or is my watch not working, hmm..."

"Your watch is working perfectly fine, Jamie. I came early," said Steve. "A West Ham official just called. They are interested in Nathan Redmond and they want to know how much you are willing to accept for him."

"Nathan?" I thought about the winger. "No thanks. I want to keep him. Tell them not to bother making a bid. It'll be rejected."

"But Jamie, Nathan has been showing signs of declining. Don't you think now would be the perfect time to ship him off and bring in a new, better winger?"

"Nathan has been doing a lot for this club. He loves Liverpool and he shows that in his performances. So what if he's been declining in training? He got 19 assists last season. I'm keeping him, Steve."

"Alright, Jamie, I respect your decision," Steve nodded, exiting the office. "I'll shoo away West Ham."

Liverpool sign promising young Greek keeper

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Atromitos keeper Fotis Tripsas, for a fee of 500k.

Tripsas, only 15 this year, is a promising Greek talent and Greece boss Ernesto Valverde has already stated that he saw Tripsas as the "next big thing" in Greece.

Liverpool boss Jamie Redknapp has admitted the signing of Tripsas was to boost competition for the Reds' other young keeper, Portuguese Under-21 international Sandro Moreira.

"I don't want Sandro to laze on the job. He was the only young keeper we had at the club before, so he could afford to think things like 'I'm going to be the next first-choice in goal, guaranteed'. Now we have Fotis here, Sandro will have to work even harder. It'll be down to both of them to see who'll be the first-choice in between the sticks in 10 years."

Liverpool players sign new contracts

Jamie Redknapp and Liverpool have confirmed that a host of Liverpool players have penned new contracts. The most notable include goalkeeper Pepe Reina, veteran defender Martin Skrtel, and captain Stevan Jovetic.

Reina has signed a new four-year contract, and the 33-year-old Spaniard has hinted that this could be the last contract of his playing career. "Retiring with Liverpool would be a great honour. This club is close to my heart."

Jovetic and Skrtel have both signed five and three year contracts respectively. Skrtel, now 31, will be around 34-35 when his contract expires, and has also given a hint he would definitely be retiring at the club. Liverpool will also be glad that Jovetic has signed a new contract.

Friendly - Liverpool vs Malaga

Liverpool: Tripsas; Walker, Lincoln, Jensen, Santon; Lucas, Verratti; Heythausen, Nem, Kalkan; Sterling

Sterling - Some brilliant play by Heythausen, Wellington Nem, and Sterling. Heythausen and Nem exchange some great passes and finally the ball rolls over to Sterling for a strike. 1-0.

Buonanotte - Gamez is brought down by Jensen in the box and Buonanotte steps up to take the penalty. Tripsas has no chance as the shot beats him. Malaga equalise.

Sterling - A rather silly mistake by the Malaga keeper as his goal kick flies right into the face of Sterling, and all he does is tap it into the back of the net. 2-1 up.

Bernardo - Another mistake by Malaga. Heythausen plays Wellington Nem through but the Brazilian can't get to it. However, Bernardo can. Unfortunately, Jesus Gamez also tries and both Malaga defenders clash with each other, with Bernardo's foot accidentally hitting the ball into the open net. Thanks a lot, Bernardo!

Verratti - A wonderful ball by Sterling finds Wellington Nem, and the latter delivers a beautiful cross to find Verratti, who hits it into the net.

Sterling - Lucas hits it, a ferocious shot, but Malaga's keeper Caballero is able to punch it away to Jesus Gamez. However Sterling gets to the ball before Gamez and taps it past the unsuspecting Caballero for his HAT TRICK!

Full-Time - Liverpool 5-1 Malaga

Who impressed
Wellington Nem - Combined very well with Sterling and was the creator of most of the 5 goals. Worked very hard today, and performed very well.

Raheem Sterling - Played as a striker today, before being shifted out to the left wing after half-time, yet, he displayed a cool performance to net a hat trick. Extremely impressive.

Lucas Leiva - Contributed much to the rhythm of the team today, and showed why he was so important to the team.

Who depressed
Jesper Jensen - Compared to his brilliant performance in the last match, Jensen's showing today was horrible. Blatantly fouled Jesus Gamez in the box and conceded a penalty, as well as picking up a yellow card for arguing with the ref.

Liverpool inject squad with German talent

Liverpool have signed two German youth players, Stefan Kovacs from Hamburger SV, and Friedel Hammer from Cottbus.

Both players were personally recommended by Liverpool's Head of Youth Development, Bernhard Peters.

Kovacs and Hammer will start their Liverpool careers in the Under-18 squad.

Friendly - Liverpool vs Dusseldorf

Liverpool: Reina; Walker, Leonard, Skrtel, Santon; Hartmann, Nava; Redmond, Garmash, Kalkan; Platt

Platt - Superb combined play by Garmash and Platt as the two exchange passes, and the Ukrainian playmaker makes the final pass for Platt to deliver the finish. Good goal.

Rodri - Marcos plays Rodri in and the Dusseldorf forward strikes it into the net. What a fierce shot!

Garmash - Heythausen's cross finds Garmash and he strikes it, beating the keeper. 2-1!

Platt - Heythausen 's pass finds Platt and the teenage striker charges into the box, jinks past a defender, and unleashes the ball into the net.

Full-Time - Liverpool 3-1 Dusseldorf

Who impressed
Kieran Platt - Scored two goals and showed off his finishing ability.

Denys Garmash - Not one to disappoint, Garmash was influential once again, assisting once and scoring one himself.

Who depressed
Mickael Leonard - Didn't quite perform in defense alongside Martin Skrtel.

Nathan Redmond - Was unable to contribute anything today, barely touching the ball, although he did get one shot in, hitting the crossbar.

Friendly - Ipswich vs Liverpool

Liverpool: Tripsas; Skrtel, Leonard, Coates, Santon; Alonso, Poli; Heythausen, Kosowski, Borini; Brown

Vokes - Terrible, terrible mistake by Tripsas. The Greek goalie dives down to grab the ball with his hands but his legs accidentally hit the ball up to Vokes, who fires the ball into the open net. Embarrassing.

Coates - Gets to a Lucas Leiva corner and taps it in effortlessly into the back of the net.

Smith - Unlucky for Tommy Smith as substitute Nava gets a shot towards goal. However the ball ricochets off Smith instead into the net. Credit to Nava, thanks be to Smith.

Garmash - Another substitute does the work. Davide Santon shrugs off Ipswich's McLean to get a pass through to Fabio Borini, and Borini hits it up to Garmash, who in turn fires it into the net.

Garmash - Garmash scores again! It's Borini down the left wing once more as he gets a beautiful cross in, and a diving header from Garmash seals it.

Full-Time - Ipswich 1-4 Liverpool

Who impressed
Denys Garmash - Scored two goals and assisted once, what a player.

Fabio Borini - Was rather quiet all pre-season but finally came out to trouble the Ipswich defense. Didn't score, but created most of our goals.

Who depressed
Amadeusz Kosowski - I handed the American his first pre-season match but he failed to take advantage of that, putting in a below-par performance.

Martin Heythausen - Been on fire during pre-season but has failed to create the same spark for this game.

Our friendlies are all done and I think it's safe to say we had a great pre-season.

Liverpool splash cash again

Jamie Redknapp has become somewhat known for splashing the cash, and this time it is 23 million for a 22-year-old Nigerian right-back from AS Monaco.

Emeka Eromoigbe hails from Lagos, Nigeria and started his career at local club FC Ebedei, before being bought to Serbia by FC Red Star in 2013. Just as he was carving his name into the first team sheets at Red Star, Monaco came in. His debut season in France was a brilliant one as Eromoigbe made 32 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco. At the end of the season, the Nigerian was awarded the Monaco Fans' Player of the Season, as well as the Ligue 1's Most Promising Player.

Also a fully-fledged international, Eromoigbe holds 23 caps for the Nigeria national team.

"It is wonderful that we've finally got Emeka," Jamie said. "I have watched him play for Monaco and he's a very talented young lad."

"Liverpool are one of the greatest clubs in England," Eromoigbe said, as he demonstrated his perfect English. "It was such a surprise that they wanted me. I am glad the deal has been finalized and I am now a Liverpool player."

Eromoigbe also had a farewell message to his former club. "Monaco was very good to me and gave me a lot of first-team opportunities. They are one of the main reasons for my success in the Ligue 1. They have made me a Monaco fan for life, and I wish them well. Their fans have also been very good to me and I hope for them that their club will be winning things in the future."

August
A very good debut month!

Top of the league, after 3 games.

Well, August has been a fantastic month and hopefully we can continue our form. Fabio Borini has been brilliant, scoring 4 goals in 3 games. If we keep this up, the league title won't be a distant ambition, much less European qualification.

Transfers

Sime Vrsaljko is sold after only six months at Liverpool, and promising young striker Jay Knight is sent out on loan. Vrsaljko will go to Tottenham, and I'm starting to think if the Spurs are a place for Liverpool 'rejects'. With all due respect to them and the players, there are many former Liverpool players in the Tottenham team like Joe Allen, Glen Johnson, and Jose Enrique. What is with the Yids' obsession with us?

Another run of good results as we beat Manchester City, Fulham and Newcastle, only to be beaten by relegation contenders QPR.

Still top of the league! But Southampton have two games in hand.
