Aston Villa: Transfers January 2015

Dowley's first signing was to bring in some strength on the wings. Nordin Amrabat, who formerly turned out for Galatasaray, was signed for a fee of £12M, and was transfer-listed at the Turkish giants.

The next signing of Dowley's reign, was ex-star Jmes Milner. The midfielder left the club in 2011 to join Manchester City, but has found himself surplus to requirements at the club. He was signed for a bargain price of £1.1M.

Then, young American right-back James Gonzalez joined. The 18 year-old has picked up 6 full international for the USA, and was touted as a star of the future at LA Galaxy. Dowley tried to sign him during his recent spell at Málaga CF.

More cover at centre-back, with Finnish youngster Rasmus Kautto joining the Villains. Dowley was supposedly tipped off by chief-scout Janne Wilkman that the young boy would be a star.

Dowley's final signing of the window was PSG and France midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who joined on a loan deal until the end of the season. The youngster is a strong engine in central midfield, and will add some backbone to Aston Villa.

We are hearing news today that Aston Villa boss Joe Dowley has accepted a job offer from the Nigerian national team. They are reportedly set to appoint him officially tomorrow evening. The ex-Málaga CF man has unfortunately not been able to recreate the fantastic scened that he created during a 2 and a half season spell with the Anchovies. We will bring you more as we receive it.

Retirement

We bring you news today that Aston Villa boss Joe Dowley will step down as manager of the club today. He has reportedly decided to retire at the age of 28, citing personal reasons for his departure from football. The under-fire manager has struggled in the premier League this season, guiding Aston Villa to 16th place, escaping relegation on the final day of the season. The ex-Málaga CF boss took over at Christmas after he was sacked in unfortunate circumstances during his time as the Anchovies manager.

During his managerial career, Dowley managed 146 matches, winning 62 and giving him a 42% win percentage. Winnnig no personal awards, and only one Copa del Rey in Spain, Dowley's was not exactly bathed in glory. He will be best known for his time managing at Málaga CF, where he led them to their first Copa del Rey final and win. He also saved them during dire financial times, where they dropped into administration only 4 months into his tenure.

The ex-Londoner will be remembered by Málaga CF fans as a great manager, but unfortunately not so great for Aston Villa fans.
