Well if we manage to get into Europe I will hopefully stop seeing messages saying that the clubs finances will continue to deteriorate. We could do with an influx of funds to prepare us for the challenge of next season. Thanks for reading Pauker.

Championship Winners

This season in charge of my hometown has brought back my love for Football Manager. I was starting to get bored of it after winning everything constantly with my beloved Liverpool FC so I needed a new challenge. I never expected to come into management of Huddersfield Town, who had just been promoted to the Championship remember, and win the league. It will be an amazing feeling to see Huddersfield Town back in the top league and I cannot wait for the challenge, especially when it comes to a return match against Manchester United.

The board of directors have offered me a new contract to which I asked for my decision to be delayed; they accepted. My name has been thrown around the rumour mill with me being touted as a successor for Sam Allardyce at West Ham United. I do think I am going to have to decide whether I want to see how far I can get with Huddersfield Town or whether I want this save to be based on my own success as a manager.

I have wanted a twist in one of my stories and one might just be on its way.
Great job on the title win, James! I'm curios to know whether you'll stay at Huddersfield or move on to West Ham! Keep the story coming :)
Congrats on winning the title, next year is the big year now! :)
Great stuff mate! I pulled one like that with Peteroborough in FM12 (Target: Consolidation and finished winning the league)! Stay at Huddersfield as it would be interesting seeing you as a side that challenges for a PL and CL! Good luck in the F.A. Cup!

A Visit to Wembley

The bookmakers simply cannot separate the two teams. I am a bit surprised that we have not been seen as favourites since we have beaten “bigger” teams on our way to the final. If I was a betting man then I would put money on my team causing another cup upset and completing the ‘Giant Killing Journey’ to the final.

Pre Match Preview

We cannot take for granted that in the one previous match against Queens Park Rangers we won 4-1, this was a friendly. In fact it was the last friendly of preseason, which means that this match will be a totally different affair with both teams striving to get that cup in their trophy cabinet.

Team Lineups

Queens Park Rangers set up exactly how I thought they would. They do have the making of a very good team, apart from, in my opinion, their striking options. With the outstanding form that my back four and goalkeeper have been in this season, I didn’t see Bobby Zamora and Esteban Granero as much of a threat. Danny Ward had suffered yet another goal drought in all competitions yet he managed to end this with a goal against Bristol City in the last game of the Championship season. I felt he had repaid the faith I had shown in him and I was looking for him to make an impact in this game. The other reason for him starting is that I thought we would be better of relying on Jermaine Beckford to come on and grab us a goal if we needed someone to.

I have to admit the one regret I do have is that I unregistered Neil Danns during the January transfer window as I had to make space for Papa Boupa Diop. The reason I regret it is that every cup game has played in, he has been one of the key players. He will be leaving at the end of the season as he is only with us on loan, so I felt it was deserving to give him a starting place to show how grateful we were for his performances in our cup run.

Match Result

What an incredible feeling this is. I thought I was going to be coming into Huddersfield Town and be looking to avoid relegation at all costs. Prior to this game we won the Championship league title which was, by itself, a great achievement. For us to win the double, with us now clinching the FA Cup, it is an achievement that will go down in Huddersfield Town folklore. Despite the bookies not being able to separate the two teams before the game, we clearly showed we wanted it much much more. We were sensational from start to finish.

As I predicted we managed to hold off the little threat from the QPR forwards and instead we were able to put attacks together of our own. Danny Ward showed that he wanted to repay the faith I had shown in him and put in a brilliant performance. The defence and goalkeeper were outstanding as always. Lee Novak has shown that he is capable of scoring against some of the top teams this season and it will be interesting to see how he fairs in the Premiership. It would have been great for him to have got his hat trick but I felt it necessary to let Alan Lee have his appearance for the club as I plan on releasing him as soon as possible.

Another proud moment in my Football Manager career that has seen me get Huddersfield Town into European football. It will be a surreal experience for the club next season and we will be honoured to just be a part of the competition. It would be great to see us do well in the tournament but we will go into it with our feet firmly on the ground and just take each match as it comes. Up The Town!
FA Cup to Huddersfield! Brilliant result!
Thank you for your two comments. It was great to bring the FA Cup to Huddersfield and it is going to be difficult to decide whether to stay or not. Surely I have to now they are back in the top flight of English football? Thanks for reading.

Next season will be a make or break one. I wouldn’t put it past the chairman sacking me if we end up in the relegation zone, even if that is the board’s expectations. Only one way to find out. Thanks for reading.

I am more tempted to stay at Huddersfield but I can’t see me staying longer than one more season as I am tempted to make this story about my own achievements. I would even be tempted to go back down to the Championship and see if I can get another team back into the big league. I guess it all depends on how I do with Huddersfield next season. Thanks for reading.
Do a Mick McCarthy, get a team from the championship to the prem, then ditch 'em and find another championship team and do the same.. :P

Sorry I haven't commented in a while, but a really great story James, and a brilliant double, well deserved.

Keep it up and good luck for the new season wherever you end up. ;)
UNBELIEVABLE Result James, Huddersfield do the double!
Lol Devil. Anyways, the resources you will be given and the attraction of players! Get some on loan and some permanent transfers! Weiss is pretty good! Great stuff mate this story is awesome!
No need to apologise. Hope you have enjoyed catching it. I am personally far from a fan of Mick McCarthy and don’t rate him as a manager whatsoever so I am afraid I won’t be following in his footsteps. Thanks for reading.

The league was touch and go at times but once we moved into 1st place everything seemed to come together. I was always confident of beating Manchester United......
Thanks for reading.

I hope I get a sizeable transfer budget as there are quite a few improvements that I hope to make. Weiss is good but I don’t intend on using wingers in my first season...that is if I decide to stay at Huddersfield Town. Thanks for reading.

Transfer Summary

I have to start by admitting that this transfer window was one of the hardest of my Football Manager career. It was difficult for me to gage which areas I needed to invest in and what calibre of player I would be able to convince to join Huddersfield Town, despite now being in one of the best leagues in world football. My main aim with the transfers was not to disrupt the harmony of the current squad, bring in some Premier League experience and also some youth.

Last season two of our striking options (Jermaine Beckford and James Vaughan) had been brought in on loan in the summer before my first season in charge. Alan Lee had been released from his contract which meant we needed to improve our striking options. I decided that Carlos Fierro was essential for any success we were going to have in the future. I do think I have over-paid on him but I am hoping he can repay that transfer fee from the start. I couldn’t personally believe that Liverpool FC wanted to sell Dani Pacheco for such a small transfer fee. He had been on loan last season and just seems desperate to play regular football. Is this something I can assure him? I’m not sure he will get constant games this season but I do think he is an excellent backup option. Anthony Stokes was also looking for game time which he may not get this season but I expect him to perform when given the chance, which will more than likely be cup games.

At the end of last season we only had one first team goalkeeper in the club, Alex Smithies. It was important to bring someone in and that someone needed some Premier League experience. Despite David Stockdale coming into the club I need to ensure Alex Smithies’ abilities continue to progress which means Stockdale will be relegated to the number 2 spot this season.

I am over the moon to have acquired Danny Wilson on a season long loan and especially with the option of £5million transfer fee at any point. I can tell you now I am definitely going to be making the most this option and at the end of the season I will be putting a bid in for Danny Wilson with the hope he will want to sign on for us full time. Ryan Tunnicliffe on the other hand has been signed as a backup option for the midfield. He knows how we play as he was with us on loan last season. He is a player for the future and the cup games.

Ryan Taylor was needed for his experience in Premier League football but he has also experienced European football, which, we will be taking part in this season. He will not be coming in and replacing Danny Simpson at right back but instead is there in case of injuries but he will also be playing every European game from the start.

Despite my worries over the transfer window I am pleased with my acquisitions and my squad has been registered. I still have up to £10million available if improvements are needed in the January transfer window.

After the first three games of the season it was clear to me that my team lacked Premier League experience, especially when it come to the attacking side of our game. The issue with my current strikers was that they were very young and lacked match experience in a big league. To counter balance this I resorted to bring in Nicolas Anelka and Michael Owen (my footballing hero). They both have experience at the highest level and will be able to support the team through the season, which is destined to be a long and difficult one.
