Football Manager 2017 Data Updates - Football Manager 2017 Real Names License Fix
Welcome to Daniel's Real Names License Fix for Football Manager 2017.
You don't have to start a new saved-game for this to work, except for Brazilian clubs. Will explain that later.
Support for ALL languages.

An fmscout.com EXCLUSIVE

This is an absolute essential add-on for your game. Due to licensing issues, there are certain clubs and competitions having a fake name. With this add-on you can fix that and enjoy FM 17 with real names.

Last Updated: 1 March 2017 - Updated instructions for 17.3

FM17 Real Names Corrected

  • All playable clubs names from all continents
  • All major leagues names
  • All non-playable Europe Top Leagues club names
  • Almost all minor leagues names
  • All Continental, National and National Cups names

Why Brazilian teams have 3-letter names and how to fix that?
If you started a save before applying this fix, Brazilian clubs will have a 3-letter name (e.g. AMG instead of América Mineiro). Even though Brazilian names are fixed in our files, the game will continue to show the 3-letter name instead of the full name. That is due to certain dbc files that affect them when you save your game for the first time.
You need to start a new save AFTER applying this fix, for Brazilian team names to be correct.

Feedback
Daniel (original author of this creative) has been unreachable since FM15, so I have taken over the difficult task of keeping this project up to date and enable you to use this brilliant license fix with FM 2017.

If you find some error in translation/names or need a fix for other club/league/competition name, please send a comment below and I'll try my best to update these files.

How to fix fake club and competition names in FM17

  1. Quit the game.

  2. Find the "1730" folder.
    Windows:
    \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2017\data\db\1730\
    Mac:
    /Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2017/data/db/1730/

  3. Open the "lnc" folder and then enter the "all" sub-folder. It will look like this:

  4. Delete the highlighted 3 files:
    • fake.lnc
    • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
    • nleague.lnc

  5. Place "Daniel FM17 Fix.lnc" and "Daniel FM17 Club Names.lnc" inside this folder, so it will look like this:

  6. Go 2 folders back to find the "edt" folder. Open it and then enter the "permanent" sub-folder. It will look like this:

  7. Delete the highlighted file "fake.edt".
This will fix Danny Blind from getting renamed to Jan Jansen.

  8. Again go 2 folders back, this time to find the "dbc" folder. Open it and then enter the "permanent" sub-folder. It will look like this:

  9. Delete the 3 highlighted files:
    • brazil_kits.dbc
    • forbidden names.dbc
    • Licensing2.dbc
This will prevent Brazilian clubs from reverting to 3-letter names and will allow certain kits to be visible again.

  10. Important: I have updated screenshots and instructions for the last database update (1730), so they apply only if you start a new save with the 17.3.0 Data Update. If your saved game is older, you need to apply the same steps to the 1710 folder as well.

  11. Open Football Manager 2017 and enjoy real names.

Please note that when you try to start a new save, you will still see wrong names for 3 Spanish clubs during the career setup, but once you select club and actually start playing, the names will be correct.

Some other files to delete to fix the "Real Hispalis" name?
Because it is the only name which is still wrong in my Athletic Club save.
    I have followed instructions.

@stam one more thing i have noticed stam.
I have four different save files. two were started on the 18th and two on the 20th. the name fix was added and the dbc files removed before i stared all these games and again everything was set up fine.
three of the save files reverted to 3-letter names and one of them has stayed with the correct names. the save file with correct names is the only save file that has the brazilian leagues loaded as playable
  • wicksyFM's avatar
@stam your right that those dbc files have to be removed before starting a new game but this does not stop the teams reverting to a 3-letter name.
I started my save on the day one beta patch. Before i started that save added a name fix file and deleted the dbc files you mentioned. Everything was fine. All names and comps correct including the Brazilian teams.I updated the game to patch 17.0.2 loaded my game and the Brazilian teams had reverted to 3-letter names

@Mvan12: It should be La Liga 1|2|3, that's the name I have for it. Will check in a bit it doesn't like the | characters in between.

@senac: Thanks for reporting. Will fix that with the next update.

@Isthmian: I'll look into it tomorrow mate, but I didn't touch anything in Spain yet (besides the competition names).

@wicksyFM: It's not related to the 17.0.2 patch. I updated instructions and now ask people to remove a couple of dbc files as well. I believe that when starting a save while these dbc files existed, it would "save" their rules into the saved file and therefore team names would revert to 3-letter name on save & you'd notice when loading it. So for Brazilian teams to be fixed, you need to follow my updated instructions and start a new save.

Something is off compared to last years fix, when it comes to the C teams in Spain.
Fx Athletic Bilbao's "C" team is no longer called Baskonia like it should be.

Stam. Any news on why the Brazilian teams are reverting back to 3 Letter names on saves started before the 17.0.2 patch

Romanian Liga 1 , Club name for CSMS Iași, is wrong in game, when i select the team, the correct name apears "CSM Poli Iași" but when i go ahead and play the game, the wrong name apears , "Clubul Sportiv Municipal Studenţesc Iaşi" this is the OLD name for this club. The new one is "Clubul Sportiv Municipal Politehnica Iași" check wiki page. As an advise the nickname should be "CSM Poli Iași"

@kenneth11: I tried deleting various files inside the db folders, some made a difference and others didn't. Whatever I try though, Brazilian clubs still revert to 3-letter names when you load an old save that started before the fix. Only way to keep proper team names in Brazil is to start a new save. The cause of this problem still evades me.
  • kenneth11's avatar
I think maybe for brazilian teams names and kits you should also delete the files 'Brazil_kits.dbc' and 'Licensing2.dbc.' located in the x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2017\data\db\1700\dbc\permanent folder. Haven't tried the name fix yet but this worked with default names.
  • IsthmianCorinthian14's avatar
    Sorry about that Stam.
Will remember to list specific issues next time.
It is nothing major - only St. Pauli's reserves are still called by the non-licence name of Hamburg St. Pauli.
The rest is good enough for now.
  • Stam's avatar
I still don't know how to fix Brazilian names that revert to 3-letter name when reloading. To be honest, I didn't have time to look into it further. If anyone has an idea, please shed some light.

@Isthmian: Which ones exactly? Help me out here, my time is extremely limited; I can't be checking each one.

    @FrenchFrog: It's still Serie A TIM actually...
The full name is correct, you want FSR added to short name?

@mgriffin: It's actually 1860 Munich, except reserve team was still called Munchen Lions II. Fixed that now. Union Berlin is correct.

@alejandro: Not sure what you're saying. I can't find any reference for World Cup U20 or U17 in the fix.

    @Jack @richbell82: Fixed Schalke.
  • richbell82's avatar
    schalke needs fixing
  • IsthmianCorinthian14's avatar
The German reserve teams and so on, needs to be fixed with the correct names.
  • FrenchFrog's avatar
    Hello Stam !
Just for report 2 mistakes :
-"Serie A TIM" is now "Calcio A"
-"Étoile FC" (french club in "CFA D") is "Etoile FC FSR" (for the cities Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël).
Thanks for your great job by the way.
