Foreign players
Written by LFCForeign players, aside from providing a boost to the sides playing abilities on occasions, have many other uses. One of these uses is that they can come in to help a player from the same nation as them, settle into the club. By having a fellow countryman, who can speak the language, the unsettled player will feel more comfortable in his surroundings, but make sure that if you are signing a player purely for this reason, that you give them a few games in order to keep their morale up. Having happy players will increase the chances that they will play well, which will boost their value and attract other clubs. To increase the likelihood of even more shirt sales, you should look to link up with a foreign country in order for your team to be recognized in the country.
Merchandising is also another big reason to sign foreign players. If signing a player just for financial reasons, you should look to sign them from highly populated countries, and possibly countries with a thriving economy - China, Japan and America are prime candidates for countries to choose from. By signing an established foreign player who is from one of the above countries, the people from that country are more likely to buy one of your clubs’ shirts, providing you with a bit of extra income. However, if you are a smaller club, with a lowly reputation, you are less likely to be able to sign established players, so the income will be less than a club with a bigger reputation.
Nothing much to do with finance, but before overloading the squad with foreign talent, you should check the league rules, to see if there are any restrictions on the amount of foreigners allowed in the matchday squad, or starting eleven. For example, the Russian Premier League restricts teams to seven foreign players in the first eleven. If there are any players who are not getting many games, you will see their value decrease, which will make it harder for you to sell.
One very important thing to note is that foreign players will tend to have higher wage demands and higher agent fees than domestic players. You should take this into consideration before purchasing a foreign player, as you may just find a player as good as him who will have lower demands.
