Club affiliates

Written by pompeyblue

What are club affiliations, you may ask? Club affiliations are links between one club and another with the tie between the two clubs offering different benefits to each club. An affiliation involves a parent club and a feeder club.

So, how do club affiliations improve finances and what are their benefits? There are a fair few benefits of a club affiliation. The main benefit of club affiliations and the most common use of an affiliation is that the parent club will loan out some of its younger players to the feeder club, without the cost of wages, so that they can get experience by playing regular first team football for another club. If you are the parent club this will not improve your club finances immediately, however, in the long run these players may gain valuable first team experience and will develop as players more. Moreover, this will increase their market value and potentially they could earn you more money in the future. If you are the feeder club, this will not increase your finances and the loaning of players will not be a ‘get cash quick’ solution. However, it will most definitely save you money as they will be able to fill roles in your team and you won’t have to pay a penny for them where previously you would have to buy and spend money to bring in players.

When clubs are affiliated there is a usual tendency that the clubs will play in an annual pre-season friendly. If you are the feeder club this is a huge benefit and can vastly improve your finances as all gate receipts are kept by the feeder club. If your parent club is a big club and is very popular then the match will attract a vast amount of fans and the attendance will be high resulting in lots of incoming cash and your finances being increased.

Other ways that you can receive direct cash if you are a feeder club is that some affiliations involve the parent club paying out a substantial amount of money on an annual basis to you. This type of affiliation can be a huge boost to the finances of your club and is the most beneficial for a small club who could possibly be struggling to raise funds needed.

If you are a bigger club and after reading that so far, don’t think that there are hardly any worthwhile benefits of being a parent club, you are sadly mistaken. There most certainly are as some affiliations involve the parent club taking a cut of the merchandising income of the feeder club. Furthermore, if your feeder club is from a different nation, your reputation in that country will increase and your own merchandising will become more popular gaining you more funds and further improving your finances.

The best time to ask for an affiliation if you are wanting a feeder club is after a couple of successful years for you at the club and at a time when you have a lot of young players at your squad who need first team football and development. This way, if you have had success at the club your board is more willing and open to allowing for an affiliation and if you did manage to link up with a feeder club you will be able to loan out your youngsters.

If you are looking for a parent club then the best time to request for one would be when your club is struggling to sign players due to a lack of budget or if you are generally in desperate need of a cash boost possibly due to crippling debts/having to pay back loans.

If you are looking for a parent club, what should you look for? It would be best advised that you look for a club with lots of good youngsters who they wouldn’t mind letting leave on loan and who would fit into and improve your squad. In addition if they have a large reputation, it is much more likely that you will sell out tickets for your annual friendly moreover your revenue will be higher.

Since manager cannot do nothing with his salary it is financially profitable to accept lowest possible salary. This way money saved goes back to budget.
