The date was August 11th 2019. The game was the Community Shield, against the Champions of England, Manchester United. I had not been expecting a win, after all, we had played just 2 games in the preseason as a squad. The players needed to learn the tactic and learn to play with each other. However, I was expecting the team to compete, and that was not at all what they did. We hardly ever got the ball out of our own half. Man U were fine with keeping possession, passing it around us until we got so frustrated that we dove in and gave them chances. We were not organized, and It was clear that the team hadn't gelled together. However, Alex McCarthy was inspiring in net, and we limited them to just 1 goal, a Zakaria Bakkali tap in off a corner. There were some great individual performances, Benjamin Mendy was just fantastic against Nicholas Stanciou,a and Yamn M'Villa kept the defense together for the majority of the match, but it was not enough. One man can't win a game for you, 11 men have to, and the attack was dismal. We got 4 shots off the whole match, and despite playing control football, we had 35% of the ball, a disgraceful total. In training, I'll work with my assistant, who's job hangs in the balance, with team exercises like keep ball. The goal for me is that the players know what each other is going to do before they do it. For me, that's the ultimate team, and a team who will win games. Thats what I'm working towards. Our first regular season game is against Norwich away, and I'm expecting three points. There will be a major shake-up if we fail to take points.

Unlucky to lose, only 1-0 is a decent performance, definitely something to build on. Good luck for the season!
Damn, not a bad result I suppose against an op united squad! And since when did Newcaslte play in the Community shield?
Good start to the story mate interesting idea definitely will follow

September 2019

Well, to say the first month of my managerial career was a disappointment would be an understatement. We've been on a horrible run of form, despite a decent start to the season, and the squad don't seem to be generating the chances they need to finish top half this season. Tom Ince, a player I had high hopes for, has provided no assistance on the offense, despite being a lock in the lineup this month. Emmaunual Fernandez, Maninho, and Ante Rebic have been alright, but they don't seem to create many goal scoring opportunities. The team doesn't know how to keep the ball, and several times I've had to resort to a counter-attack style of play to grab a point. The defense has been shaky, Karim Rekik has been alright, but Tonev and D'Amico, who looked so promising, haven't been playing to their ability. However, in my heart, I knew this was going to happen all along. We've made too many changes to experience success already. The players need to gel together before they can play up to the world class level they are capable of. Before we are brilliant, they have to be abysmal.

Analysis

As you can see, it was a dismal month to be a Newcastle United fan. We were extremely lucky to take points away against Norwich and Spurs, although we showed great finishing ability in both of those games. We were in control against Leicester, and I thought things might have take a turn for the better. How wrong I was. We went on a horrific 5 game losing streak that resulted in us being knocked out of the Capital One Cup and dropping 8 places in the league. The low point of the month was the Liverpool game, where we were lucky to get the ball out of our own half. Javier D'Amico was shocking, but I have faith in him, he'll improve, he's too good not too. In the game against Southampton, the scoring was the problem, they scored a quick goal in the 3rd minute, and despite having chances, we were unable to score and in the end had to take down another loss. The game against Man Utd was a little more respectable, as we were one goal away from taking down a point against the former champions, who currently look down on the others from joint first with Man City. However, it was not to be, and the side, whose morale is taking, have lost 5 straight. In October, the games get a little easier, with Stoke, Swansea, West Brom, and Blackburn coming up. Hopefully, we can take points from all of those games, which would catapult us back into the top half.

We're currently in 13th place, 10 points behind 1st place Manchester City and 2 points behind 10th place Swansea

Player of the Month

Our player of the month is the usually mediocre Tom Cleverly, thanks to his spectacular performance against Norwich, which singlehandedly rescued a point for the Magpies. To add to that, his first goal was an absolute corker, a half volley from the top of the box that the keeper couldn't save. Despite having just 2 goals, Cleverly is the Magpies top goal scorer in the Premier League. However, that probably won't last long, considering he was only in the starting lineup against Norwich because Bruno Fernandes, one our star midfielders, picked up a red in the last match of last year's Premier League. Of course, when he got the start against Spurs, he returned to mediocrity was was subbed off at half time.
Not the best month but I'm sure you'll pick things up;P

Yeah, a poor month for sure but hopefully against easier opponents I can start to climb higher up in the table! :)

good job with the season so far, but you need to be further up the table! :P

I really like the signings I brought in, but with all the moves I made, I knew that I couldn't win games immediately. You're right though, I really need to start doing better or Francesco Totti won't be manager of Newcastle for long :( Thanks for the comment though. :)
2013-11-16 19:17#144293 Neal : Tough month but I just know you'll bounce back!

I better bounce back quickly, because I'm sure the board aren't too happy with my results this month :P

Thanks so much Krupesh, It was stories like yours that inspired me to write this :D
Awful results ;P Well, put the past behind you and aim to do better next month :)

October 1st 2019 was a day that I was hoping would be the turning point in our season. It wasn't a game day, but a simple training session turned into something important. It was the first day of the month, and I was not satisfied. The team wasn't fully into the game. They weren't fully committing to our cause here at Newcastle. So for the first the time at Newcastle, I decided to call a Teem Meeting. It was needed to get the players morale up to the levels they should be. Right now, It looked like the team would rather be at home drinking tea than at the pitch playing football. Tea is a drink that I hate, I think it tastes awful and I can't understand the English obsession with the drink. So, right in the middle of training, I called out to the players to meet me in the dugout. They looked just as shocked as the staff. I had not informed anybody about my plan, and in truth I wasn't sure If I was going to carry out with my plan. I wasn't sure I was doing the right thing for the players. Yet the moment I had said them, I knew I had done the what was best for the squad. The team needed a morale boost and I'd give them just that. The players, gloomy as always, sat in a half-circle right in front of me. I cleared my throat, not exactly sure what I was going to say, and that created an awkward silence that seemed to loom over the dugout. Finally, I spoke. "Look, we haven't done horribly, we've done just alright. We've done good enough so that were away from relegation, but we're stuck in mid-table mediocrity. When you all signed up for Newcastle, did you dream of mid-table mediocrity? I certainly hope not, that shows lack of ambition, and that's exactly what I see from you guys at the moment. This is a talented bunch, better then almost all the teams we're currently around in the table. Is that where we should be? No it is not. I know we've had a tough month, with Liverpool and Man United, and I know the results aren't that great, but that's in the past, and we need to make sure that the future isn't nearly as gloomy. Are you with me"? The team looked re energized, much to be surprise. I asked if anybody had anything to say, and our captain, Tom Ince, stepped up. He said that he was disappointing in his performance and the team's current form, and that we should work harder to assure better results this month. The other members of the squad nodded in agreement, and I knew that I had done my job. The squad was ready for Milan, the only question now was whether our renewed morale would lead to the three points that we desperately needed.
