International report

Poland vs Brazil

A fantastic result against one of the best national teams in the world! We knew we had nothing to lose, and we were determined to stay unbeaten since the Romania game! We weren't at our best in the first half, but the second half... We were brilliant!

We had to wait until the 41st minute for the breakthrough, the goal coming from a cheeky freekick, and guess who took it? thats right, neymar! As he started his run up, everyone in the stadium thought he would cross it...even his team mates, but he never fails to surprise us, as he launched it right into the top right corner from about 30 yards away!

Half time came upon us, and the lads were still very much raring to go, all they needed was a bit of encouragement!

In the 81st minute, we would see Brazil earn themselves a penalty, a chance to put the game to bed! But the fury and anger in Szczesny's face, showed the determination and fight, that wouldn'y let that happen, as he pulled a marvellous save out of the bag diving right into the bottom corner, where most keepers would never reach!

The minutes went by, attack after attack from the likes of Lewandowski, and Obraniak...but nothing?! But we were not ready to back down, a cross from obraniak met the feet of Lewandowski who touched the ball passed the keeper before being tackled by Luiz, but somehow, our star striker managed to turn his body and use his heel to flick the ball right into the back of the net!

The last 7 minutes of the game passed, and that was it! We had rescued a draw against one of the greatest and best national side the world has ever seen! We are Poland, and we never back down!

Across the globe

Unfortunatley, there were no games played, so no results to share, but stay tuned for coverage of the world cup!
nice result
cheers man:)

World cup finals - The group stages

So, although Poland did not qualify, I still want to cover this prestigious competiton as i think it will be interesting to see who becomes world champions...Will spain retain the title? Will Holland get revenge? Or will England step up and fight for what they have craved for so long? lets start with Group A...

The first game of the 2016, took place at the Maracana where Brazil would stand host to Russia.
Brazil failed to perform in this game, and Russia ran out as 1-0 winners, Kerzhakov getting the only goal of the game in the 13th minute.

Costa Rica and Zambia, haad the late kick off, Costa Rica proved they were not to be messed with running out 4-0 winners topping the group! A hattrick from Campbell and a goal from Steward would ensure that.

The next set of fixtures would be as follows, Russia pushed on in their second game against Costa Rica, running out 1-0 winners again, former Reading striker Pogrebnyak got the only goal in the 29th minute!

Then it was Brazil vs Zambia, You'd expect brazil to walk all over Zambia, which in most aspects of the game they did, howeve Zambia didn't embarrass themselves to much getting a goal through Katongo in the 90th minute, Dani Alves, Thaigo Silva and an own goal from Mulenga gave the three goals to Brazil!

So now, it was time to find out who qualified from group A and who didn't, the rest of the teams competing in the World cup were made known by Russia that they weren't to be messed with, pusshing Zambia out of the way with their four goals to none!

This was the game everyone wanted to see, Brazil vs Costa Rica, people were intrigued to know whether Brazil were up for it after some poor results, and people were shocked to find out they weren't, when Costa Rica shocked the world, Beating Brazil 2-1 at the Maracana, a quite incredible result! Campbell and Oviedo got the goals for Costa Rica to provide a memorable win for their nation!

So there we have it, Brazil failed to qualify, probably the biggest shock of the 2016 world cup! Costa Rica, went through to the round of 16 and Zambia's only decent achievment was a consolation againts Brazil.

Now we head over to Group B, to find out how England and Belgium faired against Algeria and Honduras. The first game played in this group was between Belgium and Engalnd. England proved their might, winning comfortably...3-0. Captain Steven Gerrard scored two Penalties in the 16th and 51st minute, before Manchester United winger Ashley young finished the Belgians off in the 81st minute.

Next game, was between Algeria and Honduras, where Algeria whooped Honduras with a big, 6-0 score line. Striker Kadir, scored 3 goals before Mediani added his two, with Slamani, rubbing Honduras' noes' in it adding a 6th

Then, England's next match would be against algeria, a team they failed to beat in the last world cup, however they didn't take any notice to previous results, beating them 2-1, Gerrard scored ANOTHER penalty, making him joint top scorer with Costa Rica's Campbell, and then Ashley young got his second of the tournament in the 53rd minute.

It was belgium's turn to show off their class, winning, 1-0, against Honduras, although not the most comfortable result, a win is win, and Aston Villa sriker Christian Benteke gave them it.

NOw, this was Englands chance to really show off and cement their spot in the round of 16 and they did that so well, rounding their group campaign of with a wonderful 3-1 win against Honduras...You would think in his recent form, England skipper Steven Gerrard would take the penalties, However this was now Lampards turn, scoring two penalties on the night leaving it to Wayne Rooney, to finish Honduras off.

This was the decider, whoever won between Belgium and Algeria, would go through to the round of 16, It was Belgium who struck first in the 45th minute, through Eden Hazard, and late on in the second half, Christian Benteke scored in the 90th minute, to make it 2-0 sending Belgium through to the knock outs.

Fun fact: 5 of Englands 9 goals have been from penalties.

So, the first two groups have been decided, stay tuned to see the next two groups, there are some very odd results!

World cup finals – The group stages

Now, we move on to group C where, we will find out which two teams won the battle between, Germany, Australia, Cameroon and Greece. Surely Germany would top the group...right?
Anyway, the first encounter in the group was a hard test for Germany who would be facing African side Cameroon. Cameroon, surprised everyone, getting the first goal of the game in the 52nd minute. Which came from Ndjeng, Germany will see themselves as the lucky side only just scraping a point in the 90th minute with a goal from Bhom.

Now it was Australia’s turn to join in the with likes of Costa Rica, and Cameroon and pull off a shock result. Underdogs beating the big boys, seemed to be a trend now a days. However, it wasn’t to be as Greece struck with 2 early penalties to seal a win...Penalties was also looking like a trend.

The next game, will go down in Greek folklore as the Greeks managed to pull off a fantastic 1-0 win against Germany, Mitroglou got the goal and showed the world that Germany aren’t sack of spuds people make them out to be.

And wasn’t it obvious? A win for Cameroon against Australia, 5-0 was the full time result Zoua scoring a penalty to make it three for him on the night Ndjeng scored his second of the campaign and even the legend that is Samuel Eto’o joined in with the fun!

Germany knew only a win would do in the next match, and they had to hope Greece beat Cameroon however, none of this happened...as Germany were cruising to the 2-0 win they were looking for, Australia broke their little hearts right at the end of the game, turning the 2 goal deficit over with two late goals from Mcdonald. Which meant, whatever the score was between Cameroon and Greece, neither Germany or Australia would make it through the group stages.

Greece and Cameroon locked horns in this thrilling match, the score ended 1-1 but the game wasn’t short of excitement with each team attacking fluidly. Both teams knew, that there was nothing to lose in this match after hearing the news on the Germany Australia game!

Now onto group D, where in the First game, a ruthless Argentina, would face a determined Switzerland. Both teams were favorites to advance from their group but Argentina showed they were a lot better than Switzerland, thrashing them 4-1, influenced by a hat-trick from Lionel Messi the World player of the year.

Japan and Ghana were the next teams to go head to head in this group, Japan ran out 3-2 winners, going second in there group, Could they push on now, and get a good result in their fixture against Switzerland?

The answer to that question, was this next result, Switzerland proved too strong for Japan, only winning 2-1...so it at least they weren’t completely embarrassed, anyway, goals from Barnett and Fulham’s Kasami showed up Japan.

Ghana, did very well in the 2010 World cup, going all the way to the quarter finals, however this time around they were not up to scratch as they were brushed aside by Argentina, Argentina topping the group by winning 2-0, the goals were scored by Pastore and Messi.
Ghana, knew they had failed to qualify, and had nothing to lose, so this was their chance to save themselves anymore embarrassment, they failed to do so losing for the third time...1-0 to Switzerland.

If Japan were to win this next game against Argentina, they could have gone through on goal difference and knock out Switzerland, but they couldn’t join the list of big shocks and were knocked out by a goal from Messi in the 90th minute, Switzerland and Argentina qualified...Japan and Ghana, unlike in 2010, did not

Fun fact:Messi is the only player participating in the world cup to score in every last one of his nations group games
Love the write up. Great job.
