Liverpool go topside as Wigan plunder

Nottingham Forest 3-0
Southampton 1-0
Wigan 2-0

Liverpool started this season just as they did their last. Unbeaten. They took 9 points from 3 games against, Southampton, Wigan and newly promoted side Forrest. The strikers within the team don't seem to be getting on the score sheet as much as manager Rodgers would like...Well, infact they haven't scored at all.

You could say they have had to rely on new wingers, Oxlade Chamberlain and Yarmolenko who have both started very well and are in Scintillating form.

Chamberlain scored his first goal for Liverpool against Forrest. With Johnson out on the wing, he played a slick one-two with the right back, picking the ball up in the box before firing at the Forrest keeper, the keeper got a hand to it but the ball could not be stopped, it cannoned off of his hand and into the top corner, giving Liverpool the league. The right winger had scored just six minutes into his debut.

Chamberlain scored again just 14 minutes later, he was played through one on one with the keeper by Rakitic, Chamberlain isn't renowned for his finishing, but he managed to keep his cool and played it past the goalkeeper, to round off the perfect move.

One debut goal is usually considered lucky, but when you get three debut goals between two players making their competitive debuts...that's gotta be just a sign of things to come? A free kick in the 80th minute from Rakitic looked destined for a goal kick, but Forrest defender Halford mistakenly headed the ball back into play and across his own goal only for the ball to reach Yarmolenko who finished acutely into the bottom right corner from 6 yards.

It was the defenders in the next game that got the win for Liverpool, of course they defended with inch perfection, but chipping in with the goals is a must, for any Liverpool centre back!
Mamadou Sakho was the man who gave Liverpool their lead, from a corner. Rakitic, once again crossed the ball into the box at the far post, where it met the feet of Sakho who powered the ball past the keeper. Their was simply no time for Southampton to get back in it, the goal cam in the last few seconds of the game, so maybe Liverpool can consider themselves lucky?

That wasn't it for Liverpool, they wanted more, and got more. Once again they left it late to take the lead but that wasn't a problem, a goal kick from Al-Habsi got well over the half way line, but could only pick out Johnson who was on hand to head the ball straight to Oxlade Chamberlain, Chamberlain had many opportunities to pass the ball, but he opted to go alone...He skinned right back Ziegler and then completely embarrassed Chris McCann nut megging him just 8 yards from the goal, then smashed it in to the back of the net! He hit it so hard it actually hit the bar...he was only about 6 yards out.

Eight minutes later. Lucas Leiva scored to make it 2-0, yet ANOTHER assist for Rakitic who crossed in the ball from a free kick that found Lucas completely open in the box with about 5 yards of space all to him self, he even had an open goal to shoot at, and not even he could miss! He made it 2-0, and Liverpool were top of the table! Could they remain there?

September - Liverpool go 5 points clear as 100% record is retained

Fulham 2-1
Juventus 2-0
Tottenham 1-0
Stoke 2-0
West Brom 3-0

It seems Liverpool's strikers need a lesson in finishing, the reds' strikers have been off form of late sharing just two goals between them in eight games! Those goals coming against Tottenham and Fulham this month.

Liverpool started the month well, against Fulham winning 2-1. Yarmolenko and Aspas got the goals to seal the win at Craven cottage, and they saw themselves stay top for another week, their fine form hints no indication of this run ending either...How long can they go with this 100% record in the Premier League?

Liverpool's Champions League group was also drawn, they were nodded into Group B, where they would face Italian giants, Juventus, Spanish hotshots Atletico Madrid and Belarusian club BATE. Certainly a very tough group for Liverpool to qualify from, but that didn't seem to matter as they got a magnificent win at home too Juventus. Oddly, both goals were own goals, but no one can take the plaudits away from the team, they put in a bloody good performance, and proved themselves as a force in Europe.

Most likely the biggest game they'd have played in the League this season, which was against Tottenham, Aspas scored a late headed goal at the start of the game to give Liverpool the lead, Tottenham just couldn't get back into the game, as Liverpool's defense was just too strong for the likes of Soldado, Lamela and Eriksen...This win takes them to 15 points in the league.

The capital one cup saw Liverpool's bogey team drawn with them at Anfield, Stoke came to try and break Liverpool down but with their form, and confidence...As you can tell, it just wasn't going to happen! Liverpool kept them out all game, and two late goals from Sterling brought them the win that saw them through to the next round.

The last game of the month once again taken place at Anfield, overrun with home games at the start of the season...Maybe this is why Liverpool have performed so well? Anyway, as you'd expect, Liverpool took themselves five points clear at the top of the table with a 3-0 win! Henderson, Sterling and Oxlade Chamberlain sealed the victory.

It is no wonder Liverpool have started so well...They have been bombarded with home games at the start of the season, is this the reason for their recent success? But how are the scoring so many, with just 2 goals scored by one of three strikers all season? Chamberlain and Yarmolenko? Are they the players to bring their team it's glory? Well either way...They have been absolutely brilliant!

Premier League Table:

Champions League Group B:

Two fantastic months!
The new signings look to be settling in well and are playing well :)
Go Aaron!
do i sense a undefeated season.I thinkkkkkkkk so
Pompey: Cheers lad, they are doing really well at the moment...Shame the same can't be said for the likes of Suarez and Sturridge!

Tyler: Go me! :D

Jason: Ohh, well! I was undefeated at this point last season and look what happened there!! But I will definitely be going for the title, whether I go undefeated or not:P
A fantastic start to the season! Long may it continue. YNWA!
James: Oh, indeed my friend! This season is OUR season! YNWA! ;)

Rodgers: 'This is for the fans'

Liverpool have clearly had some very...in-fact absolutely brilliant games so far this season.
They haven't lost, or drawn in eight games, and they look like kicking on. They currently lay at the top of the Barclays Premier League table, five points clear from second, third and fourth placed Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Fans on the red side of Merseyside will be absolutely ecstatic by their teams current form, we are sure they will be relishing the opportunity to take the Premier League trophy back to Anfield come may.

But what is so different about Liverpool this season? What has changed in the last year? The only difference is that they haven't dropped four points in eight games, but that surely isn't a huge difference? They were first in the League for an extremely long time, before they messed it up in February...However, there is one slight difference. Their wingers.

In the summer, Liverpool signed Yarmolenko and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a combined fee of 27M pounds and the deal is proving to have been worth every penny. The two players are sparkling right now and are lighting up the Premier League with their fantastic skill and technique, however, Chamberlain believes there is more to come;

"I think me and Andriy have settled in really well, we both have our fair share of goals and we are connecting with our team mates very well, we are obviously both very young and that's why I believe there is more to come from the pair of us. Hopefully there will be and we can help take Liverpool back to glory, which is obviously our long term plan, but me and Andriy have one thing on our minds and that's to help our strikers get on the score sheet more often. With the form we are in now...Well, if our strikers were scoring who knows what the team would be capable of?

Brendan Rodgers also spoke to BTSport in a press conference, he had a lot to say about his two signings and Liverpool's title hopes.

"What Alex mentioned...It is certainly something we are working on. Getting our strikers to score is a MUST if we are to keep up this form, our midfielders can't keep us at the top all season, we need them and we need players like Suarez to do what they did last season, light the up our season."

"It's my target. Winning the league. Obviously we were very high up all season last year, we were even top for most of it, but i said we weren't capable, and we weren't...We weren't mentally capable of keeping up those performances, but this season, this season is the season we prevail and win the Premier League. This season we are more capable than any team in the league. This is for the fans, we will do this for them, and revive a fallen club. You'll Never Walk Alone!!"

Liverpool, are really looking like the real deal this season, but how many of the fans at home thought they could bring home the title?
Well, 47% of you said they could, and the remaining 53% said no. This is clearly due to the fact that Liverpool have been under performing in recent years, but this year is looking the most likely to 'Be their year' as the Liverpool fans say.
Awesome write up there :) keep it up :)
Jason: Cheers mate, will do! I have come up with a few Ideas to give the story more depth so hopefully these ideas can bring something new to the table:)
