Liverpool v Wigan Athletic: Wembley Stadium
Buildup
Wigan and Liverpool head into today's Capital One Cup Final at very different points in their seasons. Liverpool have fought their way to fourth, and look set for European Qualification under Rick Smalling and his Home-Grown Philosophy.
Wigan, however, are currently 17th, with only one win in their last 5 games, but Liverpool are aware they cannot underestimate anybody at this stage, with Midfield starlet Jordan Rossiter saying "despite their current form, Wigan are still a great side, and we need to take them just as seriously as we've taken anybody else this season, or they'll make us pay."
Liverpool beat Yeovil, West Ham, Swansea, Man City, and Arsenal to book their place in the final, while Wigan defeated Nottingham Forest, Reading, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Huddersfield to meet them.

First Half
The game started slowly, both teams with some half-attempts at attacks, as they sounded each other out. The first real chance fell Liverpool's way after 15 minutes, when
Pedro Chirivella played a beautiful long ball through the Wigan defence which fell to
Fabio Borini, who rattled his shot against the goalkeeper.
Liverpool broke the deadlock on 22 minutes, with
Borini powering a header past the Wigan goalkeeper from
Lucas' corner. Liverpool continued to press, and John Flanagan went close with an ambitious 30 yard effort on 28 minutes.
The last 15 minutes of the half were uneventful, and Liverpool went in 1-0 up

Liverpool rang the changes at half time, as
Suarez replaced
Sturridge, who had looked out of sorts in the first half, and club captain
Steven Gerrard replaced
Joe Allen, who looked to have taken a knock.

Second Half
The second half was uneventful, with Liverpool keeping the ball well, and stifling Wigan's attacks. Nobody looked more relieved than Rick Smalling and his players when the final whistle blew, and Wembley erupted!
