Liverpool FC can confirm the sale of French defender Mamadou Sakho to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £15.75 million.
A slight loss was made on the 25-year-old, who was bought from PSG in 2013 for £16 million, but the player was unhappy at the low amount of game time he was getting, and had previously asked to be sold by Brendan Rodgers, something the Northern Irishman was keen to do, but no potential suitors were found, until the summer transfer window, when Tottenham Hotspur, who were short on defensive players following the sale of Jan Vertonghen to PSG last season.
Sakho is expected to play more games under Spurs manager Guus Hiddink, who replaced Tim Sherwood midway through last season. Liverpool are well stocked in this position, with four capable players able to play in the centre back role - Winston Reid, Daniel Agger, Stefan Strandberg and Martin Škrtel.
Joining the club, we are delighted to announce, are Geoffrey Kondogbia, and Sébastien Corchia, both of whom join from the French Ligue 1. Both French players, Kondogbia was subject to interest from Arsenal and Barcelona before he completed his move from Sevilla to AS Monaco. The 22-year-old joins Liverpool for a fee of £12 million, and will rotate with current defensive midfielder William Carvalho, who has been a key figure at the club since his £2.5 million move from Sporting Lisbon. Kondogbia signs a five year deal at Anfield.
Sébastien Corchia actually joined as a replacement to Glen Johnson, who Brendan Rodgers tells us only agreed to sign a new deal on the last day of his contract, having previously been unhappy at the underachievement of last season. It was for this reason that Corchia was bought, but he is likely to start ahead of Johnson now, with the Frenchman looking to have a promising career ahead of him, at the age of just 24, he has already been capped 5 times by the French national side.
