Adriana Vega shows her smile, despite missing out on Champions League

Anthony Gerrard applauds the fans after loss the 1-0 vs Arsenal at Emirates Stadium

Four months ago Huddersfield’s season felt disappointing. A season that had started out with such promise had seen the Toffees slip down the table to the eighth-nineth place spots in the table. Instead of Champions League football, Huddersfield was busy fighting for a spot in the Europa League.

Then Everton, Tottenham and Arsenal slipped, Huddersfield started winning again, and once again the Champions League seemed possible. Terriers went from just playing out the season to having some real hope. The idea that Huddersfield could have a spot to the Champions League when everyone predicted a relegation fight seemed too good to be true.

Then Huddersfield became Huddersfield. They took a golden opportunity and turned it into draw against Fulham and Wigan. Even if Huddersfield still draw to Everton this past weekend, they would still have a chance at Champions League football. Instead, they fell in last games that were more important than the Everton match. It is a problem Terriers have seen for years.

Despite this disappointment, this was actually a good season. As we’ve seen in Liverpool, changing managers brings a certain unknown to the team. It would not have been shocking if Adriana Vega came in last two season and Huddersfield experienced a three season slip down the table. In fact, some less informed pundits even thought we would be in a relegation battle.

Instead, Vega has improved Huddersfield both in results and in style of play. With results, Huddersfield will finish to the top five or six on the table for the first time since the Premier League running. Not a bad job for a guy whose last team was end the last season in the 12th place.

It can be hard to accept how successful this season was, missed opportunities always hurt, but there is a lot to take pride in for Huddersfield. The future looks just as bright as ever. Maybe next year can finally be the year of Champions League football.

Tom and Will named in senior England squad for European Championship

Tom Ince (seven) and Will Hughes (four) in starting XI u-21 england, past year ago

Tom Ince and Will Hughes has been named in senior Three Lion's squad for Euro Championship in France.

Tom and Will may not have believed club manager Adriana Vegga when he informed him of his England call-up. As a manager at Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, Hodgson would focus on scouting youngsters who were causing a stir in the Football League and there has been a hum of excitement around Tom and Will for a while.

Roy Hodgson, England boss
I thought it was a good opportunity to bring them in because Adam Johnson and Theo Walcott had left us. At the moment, my knowledge of them is from way up in the stand, watching them play.

Will Hughes, Huddersfield midfielder
I didn’t think the gaffer was being serious, I was at home, about to head into the training ground. I must have asked if he was having me on a dozen times. I’m totally shocked, to be honest. To be called into the senior squad is probably the proudest moment of my career so far.

Tom Ince, Huddersfied Midfielder
It is every player’s dream. I’m realistic in accepting I might not be that heavily involved, but the fact I will be around such youngster players is something I am really excited about. It reflects really well on the club. It shows just how far Huddersfield have come.

Will Hughes action on International friendly against Belgium past week ago

Huddersfield have lost their fight to retain the services of Will Hughes, the prodigiously talented teenage midfielder regarded by many as the brightest prospect in the Premier League champions' academy.

Adriana Vega, who had led exhaustive attempts to persuade Will Hughes that his career would be best served by staying with Huddersfield, is said to be "out of his mind" with the Serie A side's actions.

Adriana Vega, Huddersfield boss
You can't believe it. We are negotiating to up his contract at the moment. It is a bit complicated at the moment because he has changed his agent a couple of times. But the boy wants to stay, that is obvious. Hopefully we can get it done soon.

Will Hughes
It's a dream that we are going to live a unique situation that maybe throughout your career you only experience once but, clearly, we are going to win, not just turn up.
How much did they pay for Hughes? I think you did a great bit of business getting 5mil for Vaughan!

Jamesg237 : They pay Hughes for £12.5 million mate, maybe the price which is not suitable for young rated like him but I get benefit £8 million from the deal. Looking back, I bought him from Derby just £4.5 million.

£5 million is worth (Vaughan) looking what he has done in this club in the last three season. Impressive!

James btw, I saw your earlier story about Huddersfield too and I happy to see the boy from Huddersfield commented my story. Thanks before :)
