Man City Complete €78m Purchase of Batshuayi

Barclays Premier League runners-up Manchester City have today shocked the world after stumping up a huge €78 million fee for Braga striker Michy Batshuayi.

The deal, which translates in £62 million in pounds first hit Braga after Paris Saint-Germain's interest started in the Belgian. The European champions had rejected many offers for him as PSG gradually started putting in higher bids in, starting from €30 million, which is extremely cheap considering his price tag now.

The deal was done fairly quickly on Sunday 12th June, just three days after the departure of Spanish striker Rodrigo to Tottenham Hotspur for €23 million. The Belgian star is reportedly earning €140,000 per week at Manchester City, well over €100,000 more he was earning at Braga.

The twenty-three year old hit 61 goals in 56 appearances last season for Los Arsenalista's in all competitions, the most goals scored in the world last season. He scored 37 in 30 in the league, whilst getting himself 24 assists in all competitions, picking up 14 Man of the Matches. Batshuayi was an integral part of Armando Azevedo's Champions League glory as well, picking up 10 goals and 4 assists in all 13 matches played by Braga in the European Cup.

Armando Azevedo, along with many other officials at Braga have refused to comment thus far on the deal apart from a brief overview of the transfer on the official website. Although, Manchester City boss Gerardo Martino has praised the clubs financial power to bring in a player of such quality as Batshuayi and is proud to say he is now their's.
Holy crap, what a deal! I hope you can find a great replacement.

Azevedo Resigns From Braga and Belgium

Some shocking news has emerged out of both the Estádio AXA and Stade Roi Baudouin today as both Braga and the Belgium national team have confirmed that thirty-seven year old Armando Azevedo has resigned from both his jobs.

In recent weeks, Azevedo has been linked with a move to English League One side Derby County, relegated from the Championship last season. More to this is that Braga have formed an affiliation with Derby recently and have loaned out Fredrik Forsetlund and Zakarie Labidi to the English side, many Braga players have been linked with a move to Pride Park to add to the speculation.

Azevedo had a rough time in EURO 2016 with Belgium, being defeated 3-1 to Spain in the Second Round. Although, unlike his time at Belgium, his spell at Braga was much more greater. He made Braga Portuguese champions for the first time in their history in his first season in charge. He continued this feat for three seasons in a row. He then made Braga European Champions following his Champions League success last season, with help from 61-goal striker Michy Batshuayi.

Along with his victories came the signings, he signed Michy Batshuayi for his Standard Leige release clause of a mere €8 million, and then went on to sell him to Manchester City for €78 million. A €70 million profit. He also brought Monaco midfielder/winger James Rodríguez to the Estádio AXA for a bargain fee of €13.5m in January 2016. He signed youngsters Federico Pardini, Viktor Havel and Romaric N'Gouma for a combined fee of just €73,000. The trio are now worth an estimate of €77m.

Derby fans should be excited should Azevedo join them at Pride Park as Azevedo brings a very attacking style to his teams and a wealth of continental knowledge of players.
Ooh joining Derby, interesting

Go to Derby and take them to prem!

Derby Appoint Azevedo

After months and months of rumours, Armando Azevedo has today taken charge of Derby County in League One.

The Portuguese 37 year old said to the English media "It is an absolute honour to be the new manager of Derby County today. It is a huge club that has been dreadfully mismanaged these past few years by several managers. But today, Derby fans can be excited as I have experience at this level, working on a low budget, dealing with media pressure. Everything like that. I want to do to with Derby what I did with Braga. Make them champions.

Azevedo will meet his side later on today, as the Derbyshire side have slumped down to 9th place in their opening six games in League One, following one loss and two draws.

Derby's American owner Andy Appleby stated it was a 'great moment' for the club. "To have a Champions League winning manager at this level is enormous. Azevedo told me in his interview that we should expect attacking football this season from his team. We have loads of signings from Braga lined up so we are hoping to get them here as they will make a huge impact, especially since Azevedo has previously coached them and no doubt has great mutual respect for each other."

York vs Derby

My First Match

I walked out of my new home in England, Derby to be precise. It was so, so cloudy out today in the 15°C air. This was nothing like the autumn temperatures in Portugal. It was windy, I don't really like English weather but it's workable.

All dressed and ready in my black suit, up for the game, my first in English football and I cannot wait. Unlike Portuguese football, there's so much more competition over here. In Portugal you have the Premier League and they're the best teams there. But in England, all teams in all divisions have some quality. That's why it's so loved around the world.

But anyway, since I received a huge pay rise from my €13,500 per week at Braga to £21,000 at Derby, I've used it to purchase my beauty of a house and a brilliant new car, a Bentley Continental GT V8 S in white, Derby's home colours.

As the car engine roared, I could sense the Derby followers doing exactly the same. I couldn't wait to get to North Yorkshire for our tie against York City. During the week we'd completed ten deals for Braga players. All very highly rated in Portugal by me and fans.

All of those players are way too talented for this level, which is exactly why I bought them, to get us out of here. The Derby fans on social media seem to be very pleased with the arrivals.

After a one hour and forty-five minute drive from Derbyshire to York, I've finally arrived at the stadium, quite a scruffy stadium but what could I do? The players had all already arrived and were getting changed in the dressing room, the divide between the amount of players speaking Poruguese and English worried me, but I'd learnt enough English to cope with both languages.

"So then." I started. "This is where it all begins. Where the Derby County revolution begins, away at York.
You're all special players, I know some of you so well to say that, but others? You must be doing something right to have become a professional footballer. You must have some talent." The dressing room looked up.
"The club's been going through a rough time recently, some of you have experienced that. My squad at Braga suffered from this, soon enough they were league champions. Why can't you be? Why can't you start today? We can do this, just believe in each other and you've got a win, trust me. But enough of me chatting bollocks, get out there and make these fans proud!" The squad replied to my speech with an almighty cheer before countless 'come ons' echoed around the dressing room.

As the players lined up in the tunnel, I took my seat with my new assistant manager, Paul Simpson. I was shivering like mad. But hopefully a win could make me feel slightly warmer.

The teams were greeted by a roar as they walked out onto the green pitch, catered by the groundsman on a daily basis, played on by footballers on weekends. I looked around the ground to see my fans. A wall of white shirts.

We started the game off as the referee's whistle screeched around all four stands of the ground. Delort passed it to Lozano before Rafa took control, it was like watching Braga B!

Paul Anderson, one of the few Englishmen in the Derby squad takes a throw in in York's half. York's midfielder slides in only to give it straight back to the thrower. But Lozano's taken a tumble in the box... The ref's blown the whistle! Penalty! He's taken his yellow card out of his pocket. But Lozano's been sent off! I stood on the edge of my technical area, stunned.
"WHAT?!" I screamed to the referee.
"You might get away with that in Portugal, but not here." He replied.
I was absolutely fuming as I handed Anthony Lozano his jacket. He looked devastated.

Now York had a throw-in deep in our own half. Wedgbury crossed in a ball, Grant's missed it! The referee's whistle blows, much to my relief for a foul on our keeper.

York have a throw in deep in their own half, he finds his winger totally unmarked. This is the problem with no full-backs.
"Simone! Simone! Go to!" I shout to Simone Benedetti, the left center-back. They've switched it to the right now... Oh dear... Goal. York have taken the lead.
"WHAT IS GOING ON?" I scream to my defenders.

Benedetti takes control of the ball at the halfway line for us. Viviani has it.
"Look at Capezzi!" I shout to him. Rafa has it for us now. He's found Delort making a superb run! GOAL!
"YESSSSSS!!!!" I scream, hugging Paul Simpson.
"GET IN!" He shouts back, over the noise of our fans' celebrating support.
What a tidy finish that was!

21' York City 1 - 1 Derby County

Torrado's cleared it for us. Straight to their central midfielder. Back to their full-back who lumps it forward... It's bounced over the head of Benedetti, to their striker who's anticipated this.
"For Christ sake..." I say to myself.
Thankfully he's hit it into our side-netting. Benedetti is saved from a bollocking.

Domej has a free-kick for us, just in their half. He's gone short to Viviani. Torrado has deflected the pass straight into the path of their striker who bursts forward at top speed. He takes a shot from very long range only to see it fly wide of the post.

HT York City 1 - 1 Derby County

"What was that?" I ask my team in the dressing room.
"Do you think that's acceptable? Most of you were playing for me in my Champions League winning Braga side, you're struggling to defeat YORK CITY.
I want you to go out there now, and absolutely batter them, if not, I want to see every ounce of energy left in you gone."

Grant hoofs it forward to Rafa from just outside his penalty area, a great pass even if it wasn't deliberate. Finds Delort. It's fallen to Anderson following the dispossession of Delort. Has a shot! Well wide.
"DON'T SHOOT FROM THAT ANGLE FOR GOD SAKE" I demand, targeting Anderson.

Shit. Andy Delort has gone down injured in their box. He needs to come off. I look to Joe Nuttall on my bench, the young Manchester City loanee brought here under the previous regime.
"Joe, get yourself a goal." I say to him. He nods as he takes off his jacket.

We have a free-kick in a perfect position for Rafa to whip one in. It's floated into the box from Rafa... Joe Nuttall's free! GOAL! He's nodded it past the keeper!
"Get in Joe!!!" I scream in praise.
He runs over to me in celebration, pointing to me.
"That's for you, boss!" He says to me, smiling.

54' York City 1 - 2 Derby County

Viviani takes a throw in on the far side. Anderson brings it under control. Lumped forward straight to Ledger's feet. Now his hoof finds the Croatian that is David Domej. His long ball finds Nuttall. Labidi has it now. He's tried to play it over the head of St. Ledger into Nuttall's run. Ledger plays it down the wing to Edwards, crossed in to Eccleston. Goal. Eccleston nods in a cross, totally unmarked by any defender nearby.

65' York City 2 - 2 Derby County

Berry takes the ball in on his right foot, turns into space. He's crossed in a ball to Gorman. It's found him unmarked again at the far post. Goal.
"For fuck sake!" I shout in disgust.

86' York City 3 - 2 Derby County

Full time. Unbelievable. I had trusted these players to dominate the league, turns out we can't even win or put up a fight against York City.

FT York City 3 - 2 Derby County

A hard result to take but a great story so far :)

September Update

Seeing as I joined Derby already six games into the season, I only took over before their first game in September against York City, which as you know, we lost 3-2 due to a late goal from York. However, since then we've managed an unbeaten streak of four games which still hasn't been broken yet. Our new signings have really made a huge difference with our attack specialising in what they do best - scoring goals. The defence has been a bit shaky in terms of communication but I'm sure that issue will be resolved among the defence themselves.

The Month Ahead

October

This month we play a massive game against Premier League giants Chelsea in the Capital One Cup 4th Round. We are the lowest ranked team left in the tournament in terms of league, with every team in the Championship or Premier League. All the other games we play seem very winnable as well.

Player of the Month

Andy Delort

Delort has been the best signing for us so far, without a doubt. Him and Anthony Lozano have been forming a superb relationship up front and if the midfield were to step up their game more, the two will be absolutely lethal for us.
A pretty solid month!
good streak!
Disappointing loss however you played better after that match. Good start!
joethequin: Especially considering it was my first :D

fzemdegs: Thanks! :D

Oz96: Yeah, that York match was a warm-up for me in my eyes, thanks :)

Derby Complete Triple Signing

New Derby County boss has today added to the influx of foreign talent at Pride Park by adding three more players to his side, all on free transfers.

Greek center back Kostas Manolas was the first to join the League One side, joining on the 24th of September, the 25 year old signed a two year deal which runs out in June 2018. Azevedo had reportedly kept tabs on Manolas when in his first season with Braga, impressing his Olympiakos fans with his immense physical ability, as well as his communication across the pitch. The 6'1" center back is reportedly earning around the £27,500 mark at Pride Park. He comes into a defence made up of former Braga men Pedro Torrado, Simone Benedetti, David Domej and Fredrik Forsetlund.

Derby's second signing was probably the most low-profile, but since joining, Alexandr Gutor has taken over the first-choice goalkeeper position at Derby from Lee Grant, who, after a series of mistakes throughout the season so far must prove himself to coach Azevedo again if he has any chance of pulling on the Derby shirt again under the former Braga boss. The Belorussian, like his current boss has Champions League experience after playing for BATE before a move to Dinamo Minsk. The 6'3" giant is earning around £10,000 per week at Derby County.

One of the best pulls for Derby out of the influx of new players, 20-time Brazilian international Nilmar joined Derby County on a free after a four year spell at Qatari side Al-Rayyan, whom he joined following his old club Villareal's relegation to Liga Adelante in the 2011-12 season for £6.5m. During his time in Qatar, Nilmar banged home 51 goals in 88 appearances before his contract at the club came to an end at the end of last season. The transfer took longer than it should have due to Derby having to appeal to have a work permit granted for the striker to join the League One side. According to the national press Nilmar is earning around £30,000 per week. Big money for a League One side, but if it takes them back up to the Championship, you won't hear any complaints
Why did you leave Braga Jack?! :( And for a League One club too! :O
