Thanks AAN! His experience should prove vital!

Business As Usual

Oriental prepared for life with the big boys

Upon our rise up to the Primeira Liga I knew we'd have to spend, and spend wisely. I couldn't just throw my money at whatever player suited my fancy - I had to get the right one.

I was trying to build a hard working and determined squad, so if the players had high attributes there as well as good technicals and other mentals, and physicals - they'd be the player for me. I'd also have a look at their media handling style and personality to gauge whether they'd be a player to stir controversy.

To kick off the transfer window Jose Nabais gave me the budgets preseason and I was quite shocked at how generous he had been! All this money was dreamland for us and it was more than enough to complete several deals.

Transfers In

We completed lots of deals to strengthen our squad and make the step up to life in the Primeira Liga, let's see the completed transactions.

Gaby Mudingayi - DM

Gaby Mudingayi offers experience at the highest level and great attributes for his position. Undoubtedly the biggest and most famous player to ever pull on the maroon of Oriental. His years with Inter Milan and in the Serie A will be very helpful for our team in their first year. He's also become the Under 19's manager at the same time, and he believes in passing, adventurous football, too.

Geraldes - RB

Geraldes was signed from fellow first division outfit Belenenses. He has the attributes to provide a solid, defensive full back which is what I want in my plans. And for his price tag, only a sixth of our budget, he looks a solid investment. His experience in the top flight will also prove beneficial.

Marcos Palacios - CB

For a free transfer, Marcos Palacios could prove to be a bargain buy. At just 19 years of age he has the potential to develop into a top quality central defender. Despite never playing a game for his beloved Deportivo Anzoategui, he has made plenty of appearances on the international stage for Venezuela.

Enrico Zampa - DM

Another free deal, Enrico Zampa is our Pirlo-esque defensive midfielder. He can finish and pass plus tackle and head - an all round player. His technique is great and he possesses some other solid attributes. He's still 24, too, so Enrico has time to develop and become even better.

Brayan Riascos - ST/RW

The game labels Brayan Riascos as a striker, but his finishing leads me to believe that he's more of a winger, much like Cedric Omoigui. He's on wages that are a bit excessive but I feel if he can develop as planned he could make a great winger.

China - AMC

*This is a screenshot from later in game.* China took a while to arrive due to wage troubles but he is here now and will assume the attacking midfield role which will be explained later. China is Brazilian and arrvies on a free transfer. He is extremely determined which fits my plans perfectly!

Preseason

I've scheduled a preseason that is entirely at home. We've got no tough games and so morale should be boosted through several wins. It should give the team a chance to properly gel and get used to playing with eachother.

Also, our tactics for the season should be nearly learned completely. Players should be competent with the style of play, tempo and width of our tactics. I'm looking to play a counter attacking game with two defensive midfielders - one to break up the play and one to feed it on to the enganche.

Enganche is a South American role, it translates to the hook, and this is exactly what intend to use it for. Our attacking midfielder will receive the ball with his back to goal, and turn in a hook like shape, before either spraying passes to the striker or two wide men... or just taking a shot on his own.

Apologies for not having a screenshot of this, by the way.

China looks v. good :)
Very good signings mate!
Who needs on player when you can buy a country? :P
You'll be massive underdogs, but I think you've got a good chance of staying up, especially if you have a good pre-season to boost some morale. That regen looks a steal for a free transfer, hope he develops well. Slow for his age, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Also, Mudingayi :D Former Bologna player, quality signing :)
Some very good signings Walt!
It will be a tough, tough season but I'm sure you will still do well regardless. I'm looking forwards to it ;)
Josh Thanks Josh!

Paddy Hopefully he'll be a key player for us this season :D

AAN Thanks mate

Justice Well I can't buy a country :P

Rablador Thanks Rab, we're predicted to finish dead last in 16th :)) The regen is a risk because of his low determination and apparently he is a bit of a troublemaker ;) Mudingayi should provide valuable experience and leadership for the youngsters! Thanks for reading :)

pompeyblue It will be tough, but I know we can do it!

Preseason Season Four

Preseason was key for newly promoted Oriental

Who Were We Playing?

Our preseason is long, 7 weeks in total, which should give us ample amount of time to try and get this team working together and as a unit, while also getting our tactics ready for the up and coming season - getting the players all ready for the new season.

Preseason Results

All in all I'm very pleased with our preparation for this season. Not only did we defend well, only conceding three goals for the duration of the fixture list, but we also showed prowess in front of goal.

We begun the preseason at Alverca. A two-nil win would have to suffice seeing as though it was the first game of the new preseason, players were tired and signings were making their first impressions. But we got the win and that is sure to give the players a morale boost early on in the season.

Following that we played SLB B and came away with an even better result, this time 3-0 our way. The team is already combining well and we're showing some great, counter attacking football just like I've wanted.

Casa Pia were a side that we played against back in the good old National Championship days, and three seasons later we couldn't have been in a more different place! They put us behind early, but we managed to come back to win it, a fighting display even for a friendly. Again we took lots of positives out of this match.

We'd already played one Lisbon side's B Team this preseason, and now it was time for Sporting B to be entertained. It was a much closer affair than first thought but the scoreline shows that we managed to just about overcome them.

We got a bit of a change of opposition in the shape of Spanish outfit Sevilla Atlético. We got another comfortable victory under our belts, with three first team players in China, Franchi and Liparoti all putting their names on the scoreboard.

Along with Casa Pia, Naval were another team we'd hosted before - but in our promotion bid in season 2013-14. We drew with them last time, and we could only get a draw this time, too. They frustrated us and it was a fairly poor result.

The seventh, and final friendly fixture was again versus a small, lower league Portuguese team in Estrela Amadora. After slipping up and going behind the boys showed they could score if need be and we ended getting our 6th win out of 7 for preseason!

Player of Preseason

One of our new signings, China, looked at ease on the ball and chipped in with a few goals, too. Could prove to be one of the signings of our season. He has great attributes and fills the role of Enganche very well.

Preseason was highly successful not only with results on the pitch but the benefits off of it. Everyone knows how we want to play, and they all know eachother's tendencies. It's a team, now. Morale is high and that will go along way over the course of what could prove to be a very tough season.

The Month Ahead

The first month of our maiden campaign is actually an alright one. I see some winnable fixtures in here and a chance to prove we are no pushover! Luckily, we haven't been drawn to play any of the big three until later in the season. That's when things will get tricky. Still, we won't change to a defensive style of play - we'll look to play our game and win, no matter who the opposition are.
