January Report - Too Many Games

After a great run of form last month, we headed into this month with great morale, however this month will see us play the most games we've ever had and it includes a huge tie against Southampton in the FA Cup, it will be tough but I have faith in the lads! Let's see how we did.

Results

As you can see, we lost against Southampton but by a very respectable scoreline considering the are in the BPL. We did exception defensively and even carved out some chances ourselves but Jay Rodriguez steam-rolled our defence and slid the ball under Rob Lainton to knock us out of the competition, unlucky lads.

Rob Lainton

After the loss against Southampton we then faced Kidderminster at home and got back to winning ways. Kidderminster took the lead through a defensive mistake allowing Kristian Scott a free shot at goal which he emphatically put away. However Solly March got us back on level terms with a rocket of a shot into the top right corner to make it 1-1 and Euan Smith got the eventual winner as Ryan Hall swung in a deep cross which Euan headed into the bottom of the net! Great comeback!

Euan Smith

Then we travelled to Wimbledon to try and get yet another three points to aid our quest for promotion. Euan Smith was out injured this game and so Zach Clough led the attack. Ryan Hall scored the first goal as he curled a shot past Etheridge in the Wimbledon goal. Then Zach Clough got a well deserved goal as he was part of a neat passing play and powerfully finished to make it 2-0 and take home all the possible points back to Edgeley.

Zach Clough

We were back at home for our next league fixture against Torquay. Cameron Park took the lead for us as he neatly flicked the ball into the bottom left corner to make for a speedy start. They shortly equalised however as Joe Widdowson headed in from a set piece to make the game level at 1-1. Jake Forster-Caskey put us back in-front as he passed the ball past Poke to make it 2-1 but yet again Torquay equalised as Kyle Miller smashed the ball into the back of the net after some bad marking from a corner. I guess we'll have to settle with a point.

Jake Forster-Caskey

After the draw against Torquay we went to Cheltenham hoping to get back to winning ways and we did so as Euan Smith got half a yard of space to rifle a shot into the bottom corner after a tight and boring game. It may be just one goal in the game but a win is a win.

Euan Smith

This next game was our best game, a 4-1 thrashing of Plymouth at Edgeley Park. They took the lead as Mark Anderson broke the offside trap and tapped the ball into the back of the next to make it 0-1. However a brace from Ryan Hall and Euan Smith completely turned the game on it's head and we earnt yet another three points and increased our goal difference even more with this amazing performance.

Euan Smith

Colchester were next and similar to the Cheltenham game it was even contested with hardly any chances until Ryan Hall was tackled from behind in the box which Tom Leggett got a straight red card for and the in-form winger calmly placed the ball into the bottom left hand corner to earn us yet another three points.

Ryan Hall

And finally we played Oxford at home which was a very exciting game. They took the lead through James Constable but we shortly equalised through another superb Solly March goal as he wriggled past two defenders and placed the ball past the keeper. They, however, retook the lead as Dominic Samuel fired in from close range but yet again Ryan Hall scored an important goal to get us on level terms and Solly March got his brace as he combined nicely with Euan Smith and tapped the ball into the centre of the net, extraordinary!

Solly March

League Table

TOP OF THE LEAGUE! TOP OF THE LEAGUE! We're doing so well with these results this month and we see ourselves 6 points clear of Plymouth! Let's hope we can focus and wrap up the league title as soon as possible!

Player of the Month

Euan Smith

Euan has been our main source of goals this month and has provided a few assists too! Getting an average rating of 7.52, the young Scottish forward is really impressing and has become a fan favourite. I'm sure Hibs are monitoring his progress well but I'm hoping to get him permanently.

Slater's Thoughts

Another great month, I couldn't have wished for a better one! I wanted 15 points this month but we exceeded my expectations which is very pleasing. Euan has been our star player this month and for the majority of the season, as well as Ryan, they have been great signings! Regarding the league, we are ahead by six points and I really do believe we can achieve promotion. But we need to focus on each game at a time and not get ahead of ourselves.

The Month Ahead

We have a less congested month next, with two extremely important games in the JPT Final, as we face Walsall away then back at home. It's our first chance to win silverware which I hope we can achieve. We also have more league fixtures which can edge us closer to promotion.
Great, great, great month! Rightfully deserve to be leading the league!

Stockport upgrade youth facilities

Stockport County have confirmed that they have finished work on new youth facilities after construction began at the start of the season.

The upgrade cost the club a fair chunk of money which reduced manager Josh Slater's transfer budget at the start of the season but Slater hopes that the investment pays off and that Stockport can create some quality young players with a big future ahead of them.

"I'm delighted that the club have decided to invest into our youth system as the game is becoming overrun with foreign players which is ruining the chance for home-grown talent. I hope that Stockport can become like Southampton and produce some amazing talent." Josh Slater said speaking to The Stockport Times in an interview.

The upgrade has come just in time as in a couple of months time is the national youth intake day and Stockport County are hoping to get a good intake to help aid their race for promotion in the next coming seasons.
Hopefully you can create a youth system that can one day match that of someone such as Southampton! :D
Some regen locals could become beast with this upgrade!
Congrats on the upgrade
Great last month, you are doing great to be topping the league especially by 6 points!
Also good to get facilities upgraded, hopefully you can develop some quality stars for the future ;)
@Walt: That's the plan! :)

@Pauks: Yep, I'm hoping so.

@Bayern: Thank you!

@Pompey: Thank you! I hope we get some good regens ;)

February Report - We're off to Wembley!

Now that we are closing into the end of the season, we have really important games. The biggest game(s) this month is our JPT North Final games against Walsall at that will determine who will make the trip to Wembley to face the JPT South winners! We could win silverware back-to-back!

Results

In our JPT North Final first leg we travelled to Walsall and got a decent result if I'm being honest. A 0-0 draw which on paper gives us the advantage of progressing! The game had little to no chances to talk about but both defences were on top and we head back to Edgeley with good spirits.

Luke Watson.

Then we headed to Cambridge to continue our league campaign. Again, like Walsall, it was a game of little chances however there we two goals. They took the lead through a well-worked counter attack which Calum Dyson finished with a flick over Rob Lainton. However Ryan Hall came up with a goal as he always does when he ran past a defender and drilled a low shot across the goal into the bottom corner. We were lucky to come out with a draw.

Ryan Hall.

Next was undoubtedly our best game this month. We took the lead through Solly March three minutes in, as he dribbled past a defender and slid the ball into the bottom right corner. However the equalised soon after from a set-piece which Glen Uprichard headed into the top corner to make it 1-1. But Ryan Hall yet again put us back in the lead as he smashed the ball past David Button in the Fleetwood goal and then got his brace from the penalty spot. Euan Smith then put the game beyond doubt even though Fleetwood pulled a goal back in the 90th minute. What a great win.

Ryan Hall.

Them came the big game. The second leg of the JPT North Final at Edgeley. Similar to the first leg, there we hardly any chances however they did earn themselves a penalty in the fourth minute but Rob Lainton pulled off a spectacular save to deny Stephen Stirling! And after that we hit them on the break as Euan Smith hit the ball forward to Ryan Hall, who curled a 20 yard strike past Richard Jones and scored! We held on until the end and the referee blew for full-time which means we were heading to WEMBLEY!

Rob Lainton.

And finally we had another league game against Rotherham at home. There was really nothing to mention about his game other than a strong defensive display from both teams. A point is a point.

Tyler Blackett.

League Table

We are still top! A four point difference between us and York is very encouraging, but we cannot afford to slip up now, two months to go and two losses could see our chance of promotion start to slip. But our GD is also very good if it comes down to that.

Player of the Month

Ryan Hall

Was there any doubt who our Player of the Month would be? Of course not, Ryan has been amazing once more this month, scoring the goals and getting some important assists. He has been such an important player for us throughout this season and he keeps on showing his class each game.

Slater's Thoughts

Yet again the lads have performed so well this month. They've done what's needed of them, especially in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy North Final, and they have been rewarded with a trip to Wembley which I hope they impress in. It's also been a good month results wise for the League, although we didn't win all of our games, we have been undefeated and he look strong in securing the title.

The Month Ahead

Next month we have lots of League games which could ultimately secure us promotion. We also have our huge game at Wembley at AFC Wimbledon, who beat Charlton in the JPT South Final. It's going to be an interesting month, with silverware up for grabs!
