March Report - Closing in.

Two months left, a league title to win. This was going to be a huge month, as well as the JPT Final we have a chunk of league games which we must win. It's not going to be easy but I have faith in our team. If we do well this month, the league is practically ours. To the results!

Results

Our first game was against our local rivals Oldham. It was a very dull game with hardly any action and fully deserves a 0-0 scoreline. I'll take a point here for sure but I just wish our attackers were less careless.

Luca Gasparotto.

Next we were at home against Mansfield. We took the lead through the one and only Euan Smith, who I'm hoping to tire up on a permanent contract come the end of the season. His goals have been vital. However, they soon pulled a goal back when our defence was caught napping as George Francomb quickly pounced on the ball and flicked it past Rob Lainton. However Euan Smith got his brace as he fired in from 12 yards to earn us all three points!

Then we were still at home as we welcomed Wycombe to Edgeley. We got off to a flyer as our left-back Tyler Blackett headed in from a corner to make it 1-0 within the first 10 minutes. We then held possession for the majority of the game and as Wycombe sent more men forward, Zach Clough was part of a counter attack and emphatically struck the ball past Ryan Allsop to put the game beyond doubt!

Tyler Blackett.

We then had our first away game of the month against Hartlepool which proved to be a very exciting game. Ryan Hall got yet another goal to give us the lead in the second half as in the first half the game was very tight with hardly any chances. But they soon made it 1-1 as Oscar Gobern fired past Rob Lainton. But, Ryan Hall got his second through a superb volley into the top corner to give us the lead once more, but our celebrations were halted as Rohan Ince headed in to finish the game at 2-2.

Ryan Hall.

Burton were next and this game had hardly any chances. Both defences were solid and both sets of fans got frustrated, however, A moment of magic from Solly March got us the lead as he ran at his man and dribbled past him, he advanced into the box and fired in from a acute angle to win us the game! Well done Solly!

Solly March

And now it was our last league game of the month, away at Exeter. Solly March made it 1-0 as he tapped in a pull back from Euan Smith to give us the lead. They equalised just before half-time from a set-piece as Matty Robson headed in. However, with the game drawing a close, Euan Smith stole the ball and finished it superbly into the bottom corner to give us all three points! What a win!

And finally it was the JPT Final, I've already done a detailed match report on this which you can see here.

League Table

12 points clear! The title is in clutching distance! Due to this undefeated month we've really rocketed up the table at the expense of our followers York, Oxford and Plymouth who have all dropped some points this month.

Player of the Month

Euan Smith

Another great month from the young Scottish forward who I'm currently trying to agree a fee with Hibs for. He's been our main source of goals this season and has got his fair share of assists. I believe he can be a real asset to the club going forward and has potential to be a very good Premier League striker!

Slater's Thoughts

It's been a great month yet again for us, the league title is almost in touching distance and we can secure it early next month with a few wins. I've been really impressed with Euan and Ryan this month, and practically this season. They have been our main goal threats and have got lots of assists between them. They have formed a great partnership and hopefully this will benefit us in the long run. Overall, a great month.

The Month Ahead

Our final month, hopefully in League 2 as well. We have some crucial fixtures ahead of us, especially our first game against York as they are our close rivals for the League Title. We also have some tough games against Portsmouth and Dagenham and Red-bridge, but I'm confident we can do this.
Come on you Hatters! Squeaky bum time's here, but I'm sure you'll keep your cool and seal the title! :D
Seal the title already!
Great story Josh. Great indexing and easy to read, cool design. Good luck mate!
@Walt: I certainly hope so! Thanks Walt:D

@Pauks: I'll do my best ;)

@Diaze: Thanks a lot pal! Glad you like the story!
I think you have the title in the bag already with two brighton players :D well done on winning the JPT aswell
Euan.Is.God.
@captain: Haha yeah! Thank you! :)

@Justice: He.Is.Indeed.
Euan is Love. Euan is Life.

April Report - A Moment To Savour

This was it. The final month. Seven games to determine how our season will finish, we've got so close and we cannot afford to slip up. 12 points is all we need to seal the title, we can do this! We have to believe!

Our first game this month was against second placed York. It was a tight game within the first 40 minutes but Solly March took the lead for us as he got half a yard from a defender and fired into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. However 2 minutes later they equalised through Martyn Woolford as he headed in from a cross. Going into the final 10 minutes of the game we were in dying need of a goal to win the tie and Euan Smith found himself onside and fired past Jonny Tuffey to win us the game! What a win! 9 points to go!

Euan Smith.

Next it was another home game but this time against Morecambe. They got the lead as Jay Bothroyd smashed the ball past Rob Lainton from 10 yards out. We couldn't find that equaliser before half-time and we went in 0-1 down. I gave the lads an inspirational team-talk and they came out fired up. Euan Smith soon got us back on level terms as he chipped McGovern from 12 yards and Genseric Kusunga headed in the winner from a corner to make it two wins out of two! 6 points down, 6 to go!

Euan Smith.

Then it was our first away game this month against Carlisle, which I was disappointed of. We could have been 3 points away from winning the title but no, we had to mess this game up. They took the lead through Myles Weston as he passed the ball past Rob Lainton to make it 1-0. We equalised shortly after through a skilful run from Ryan Hall who slid the ball past Craig Gordon to make it 1-1 but with 7 minutes to go they won a free-kick 20 yards from goal and Danny Livesey curled the ball past the wall and the keeper to take all three points. Bad performance.

Ryan Hall.

Accrington was our next destination to try and get some more points on the board, as I mentioned earlier, 6 points were what we needed depending on York's results. Jake Forster-Caskey took the lead for us as he curled in a 25 yard free-kick into the top right corner, however Accrington shortly equalised through Shay McCartan and for us only to take one point back to Edgeley, however on a good note, York LOST, meaning 3 points were needed.

Jake Forster-Caskey.

This was it, if we won this game against Northampton, the league title is ours. Euan Smith gave us the lead early on after some great passing play resulting in an exceptional finish to the keepers near post. However, as per usual, we lost the lead as Jack Midson was onside and smashed the ball past Rob Lainton into the bottom corner. We attacked and attacked but to no avail as the game finished 1-1, but... YORK LOST AGAIN! THE LEAGUE IS OURS! WE'VE DONE IT!!

Euan Smith.

We were then back at home to celebrate winning the league title against Portsmouth. After the end of this game we would be presented with the League 2 trophy as it's our last game at home. We wanted the win the game for the fans and we did so as Genseric Kusunga made solid contact to the ball from a corner to win us the game! The fans invaded the pitch and celebrated with the players before we got our hands on the trophy! What a season!

Genseric Kusunga.

And to finish up League 2 we travelled to Dagenham which made for an exciting encounter. They took the lead through Scott Doe but we shortly equalised as Euan Smith got another goal, finishing smartly past Liversedge. They regained the lead as James Poole dribbled past the keeper and placed the ball into the empty net. But yet again we equalised as Luca Gasparotto headed in from point blank range to make it 2-2 but Luke Wilkinson won the game for them as he beat the offside trap and placed the ball past Rob Lainton. What a final game to the season.

Euan Smith.

League Table

The league is ours! What an extraordinary season for Stockport! We were predicted to go right back down into the Skrill Premier but we defied all the odds and came out the champions of this league! It turns out that York lost more games than I thought so we won the league even quicker than first thought (xD).

Player of the Month

Euan Smith

What a season for this young man. He was not getting any playing time as Hibs and thats why he accepted our offer. He's been our main source of goals and I'm currently in talks with Hibs about a permanent move for Euan. He'd be a great asset in League 1 and has been such an important part of our promotion.

Slater's Thoughts

What a season, WHAT A SEASON. The lads were exceptional during our time in this league and deserve the chance to play at a much higher level. Some results this season have been sublime and there have been so many class performances from many players that it'd take me ages to go through them all. I'm looking forward to League 1 but we have so much preparation to do. Congratulations to everyone!

CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done on a fantastic season and an incredible promotion! Awesome update as per usual and I can't wait to see how you do in League 1!! :D
