Slater hails players after a magnificent season
Stockport County manager Josh Slater has hailed his players after they earnt his side promotion back into League 1 after a 7 year wait.
As the final whistle blew in County's final home game, everyone knew what was coming, the League 1 trophy would make it's way back into County's trophy cabinet after many years without it's presence in the club's history books.
Slater had took his men from promotion from the Skrill Premier, to promotion from League 2 and he is now aiming for promotion once more as the club begins it's preparation for the challenges ahead in League 1. After the final game of the season, manager Josh Slater had many words to say about the season just gone.
"Words cannot describe how I feel right now, to take the club I loved all my life back up into one of football's big divisions is truly mind-boggling. The outcome of this season would have not been possible without each and every player adding something to the team. Every player was key to our success whether it had been on the pitch or just morale support, they were all vital."
"Obviously there are those stand-out performers, who you can probably guess who they are, but you cannot take any credit away from anyone else as they've all played a small part into a growing and thriving future for this club. It's been a never say die attitude from the players this season and if they continue next season with that very same attitude, in a years time I could be speaking to you once more but this time as a Championship manager."
Slater is County's first ever manager to lead them to back-to-back promotions and goes down in the history books for his amazing work at the Edgeley based club. The Stockport County board are currently in talks with Slater over another new deal as they see him as the man to take the club forward even more.
