Yeah, this season is his time to shine!

My Homecoming.

It’s a well-known fact, that in my playing days I was a popular man among all Olympique Lyonnais fans. They loved me and I loved them too. I really was a hero, an icon, a legend.

After making my debut in 2001, I went onto make 344 appearances in all competitions for the club with 100 goals coming in these matches. It was by far the club’s most successful period, something I played a huge role in. We won 7 consecutive Ligue 1 titles, one Coupe de France and 6 Trophée Des Champions. Quite an achievement, eh?

Les Gones gave me the opportunity to shine on the biggest stage. To take French football and European football, by storm. Boy, did I do so. However, there is one trait, one special skill, which I will always be remembered for. My set piece magic. I am the greatest free kick taker the world has ever seen.

My 7 years at the club, not only conincided with the club’s most successful period in its history, but it was a remarkable time for me in my life. Moments and memories that will last forever, that will never be forgotten. Stade de Gerland became my home over this spell. A place where Olympique Lyonnais fans could always rely on ‘Juni’, as I was known as, to perform to a fantastic standard.

I now knew the stadium like the back of my hand. 48,078 capacity, to be precise. 4 stands, Tribune Jean Jaurès, Tribune Jean Bouin, Virage Tony Garnier and Virage Coubertin. An incredible set of fans to fill it. All leading to an unbelievable atmosphere. When it gets going, it is electric. There really is no place like it.

The noises of my last game at the club as a player, 5 years ago, still ring in the back of my ear now. I am always thinking back to this day, a truly amazing but emotional day. It was a hero’s send-off, fans sang my praises from the stands which were fully packed, and to cap it off I scored too. From the penalty spot, my 100th goal and final goal for OL.

Not long after my departure I was linked with a quick return as coach. ”I want to lead OL. One day I want to coach OL, that’s for sure, but only if I’m capable. If I prepare, I think I can do it.”. Those were my comments, not actually thinking it would be a possibility. Now though, I have fulfilled my dream. I am the manager of Olympique Lyonnais.

Walking up the tunnel, it is time for my homecoming. A match against Motherwell will provide the action, but it will be another unforgettable moment to add to the collection. Sitting in the dugout, standing on the touchlines, it will feel so different but I know it’s so right.

I have to make sure this lasts, my tenure as manager has to be successful. I have a long term plan, an aim and a new ambition. This club will get back to the top, I will guide them to glory. It all starts here. Hold on tight, it will be a hell of a ride.

err, I don't think so!

Les Gones wrap up Nacho loan deal.

With just days remaining of the transfer window, Olympique Lyonnais have completed the loan signing of Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez.

23 year old Nacho is the fourth signing in new manager Juninho’s tenure at the club joining Guillermo Ochoa, Tom Ince and Carlos Zambrano in linking up with the Ligue 1 outfit. Operating as a central defender he will beef up squad depth in the role, and will compete for a first team spot along with Samuel Umtiti, fellow new addition Carlos Zambrano and Bakary Kone.

Born in Madrid, he has played for his local club Real Madrid for his entire career, spanning back 12 years when he was just 11 years old. Since then, he has progressed through the ranks at the Spanish giants, eventually making his first team debut in 2011.

Meanwhile, he has also continued to represent Spain at international level. He has turned out in all age levels from U16’s upwards and has even played for the first team on 1 occasion. It is for Madrid, though, were he has developed a good reputation as a young star.

In total, he has appeared for Real Madrid 35 times, now known as a talented player for the future. Nonetheless, he was seeking more regular football so requested to be loan listed with his club obliging. A number of clubs did take interest but France was his decided destination, specifically Lyon.

The news broke out on Olympique Lyonnais’ official Twitter account, with a graphic welcoming Nacho to the club. The picture featured the words ‘Welcome Nacho!’ with the French translation ‘Bienvenue Nacho!’ also included. This seems to be a style of confirming transfers which many clubs have taken up recently with Lyon following suit from fellow French side Paris Saint Germain who used a similar idea earlier this week when announcing their own signing.

This picture was released on Olympique Lyonnais’ official Twitter account, @OL, to confirm the loan arrival of Spanish defender Nacho.

With the deal all agreed, OL boss Juninho spoke to the media briefly about his new man, citing extra depth in defence the reason for Nacho’s arrival. ”I think a bit of squad depth, particularly in central defence, was evidently missing so I am pleased to have got in a player of Nacho’s quality to fill the gap. Signing from Real Madrid, albeit on loan, he is always going to have quality and should bring a lot to this team.”

The deal will last a season long, with half of Nacho’s £13k wage to be paid by his loan club, Olympique Lyonnais. The Spaniard will link up with his new team mates tomorrow morning for training, and will likely be thrust straight into the squad for the upcoming games.

Nice signing, nice graphic, but we are over 100 posts in and the season isn't even underway :))
great start ! loving the layout

cant wait to see some results, waste of money though buying Ochoa, lets hope he proves me wrong
Neal: Thanks, and don't worry it will start very soon :))

toonman8589: Cheers man, but I can't have wasted any money on Ochoa as he was a free transfer :P I'm sure he will prove you wrong, as he is a very good goalkeeper and much better than the options I already had at the club ;)

August 2014 - A Superb Start.

With pre-season out of the way, it was time to get the competitive season underway, with myself and the rest of the team in knowledge that a good start was needed to build the foundations for a successful campaign. Whether we could make the step up though in this period, what with competing in Europe as well as the League, would be very interesting that’s for sure.

Results.

Our season began with a trip to Scotland in the Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round Leg 1, with Motherwell having been drawn as our opponents. A win was always expected but to do it in the fashion we did was fantastic, as we stormed to a 6-0 victory. A brace from both Alexandre Lacazette and Yoann Gourcuff, an own goal from Anthony Turner and a Samuel Umtiti goal gave us a commanding advantage with the second leg still to play.

So, next up was my homecoming. My return to Stade de Gerland. We were taking on Motherwell, in Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round Leg 2, and with a 6-0 aggregate lead heading into the match it would have to take a miracle to deny us a place in the next round of the competition. Unsurprisingly, Motherwell couldn’t cause an upset as we ran away 3-1 winners and on aggregate 9-1 winners. Once again, Alexandre Lacazette was on hand to bag a brace, with Maxime Gonalons grabbing the other.

Another home game followed, but this one was undoubtedly going to be a sterner test. It was the Ligue 1 opener, with LOSC Lille the team we were matching up to. The game certainly proved to be a closely contested one, but we managed to steal the three points in the last minute of the game, with Jimmy Briand scoring a late winner. The visitors had gone in the lead, and it took us until the 81st minute for us to hit back, through Yoann Gourcuff. From then, we did pile on the pressure, and did deservedly score the second goal to win the match.

Our first away game in the league was next on the agenda, as we faced a trip to play Racing Club de Lens. In the end we dominated the game, controlling possession and creating most of the match’s opportunities. Alexandre Lacazette and Tom Ince got themselves on the score sheet, as we cruised to a 2-0 victory.

After progressing into the Europa League Playoff, the draw handed us a two legged tie against Slovakian side Trnava. As with the previous round, a win was always expected, and again as with the previous round we did deliver. This time though, in the first leg, we managed to achieve a 3-1 victory with the goals coming courtesy of an Alexandre Lacazette hattrick.

We were back in league action thereafter, our final league game of the month, against FC Nantes. We proceeded to demolish the away side, with a classy 5-0 win that perfectly showcased our attacking talent. Alexandre Lacazette struck home twice with goals also coming from Yoann Gourcuff, a Tom Ince penalty and Remi Gomis own goal too.

Wrapping up August we were at home again, for the Europa League Playoff Leg 2 against Trnava. This time we were even more dominant than the previous encounter, sweeping them away 4-0, for an aggregate win of 7-1. Tom Ince continued his excellent form with a double, unsurprisingly Alexandre Lacazette scored too, with Yoann Gourcuff completing the list of goalscorers.

League Standings.

After three games in the league, we top the standings in 1st place, after three wins out of three. Stade de Reims and Marseille sit on the same amount of points, but our superior goal difference puts us ahead of both.

Player of the Month.

Despite their being many good performers over the past month, there is still one man in particular who stands out from the rest, Alexandre Lacazette. The French forward is the winner of this month’s award purely for his goalscoring abilities, having bagged a very impressive total of 11 goals, over the 7 games of the new season. He can single handily win us games, obviously making him a huge asset to our side.

Juninho’s Judgement.

It has been a superb start to the new competitive season for Olympique Lyonnais, with 7 wins out of 7, continuing our form from pre-season. I have been impressed with a number of players, and our general attacking play has been fantastic. My chosen 4-2-3-1 formation also seems to be working perfectly so far, making everything look very encouraging at the club for the campaign.

Some fantastic wins, you can win the title, even without the budgets!
A great start mate! Keep it up like this!
Superb is an understatement.....spectacular month! :D
FINALLY the season is underway, and what a way to kick things off! Lacazette LEGEND, love that graphic you made for him :D
What an amazing start to hopefully an amazing season! Good luck!
