Pogon And Piast Draw In Late Goal Flurry
Youngster Alan Blajewski showed poise and composure in just his 2nd start of the season
The fans at Okrzei were treated to a great spectacle, as Pogon and Piast battled it out for a 2-2 draw. All 4 goals were scored in the last half hour and Piast did extremely well to fight back twice and secure the draw whilst Pogon will regret multiple missed chances.
Pogon XI- Janukiewicz, Tortosa, Hernani, Tadrowski, Brzyski, Golla, Blajewski, Akahoshi, Murayama, Wisniewski, Robak (c)
Subs- Kudla, Lewandowski, Kun, Rogalski, Pietruszka, Kuswik, Porzezinski
Piast were given a scare from the kick-off as Pogon captain Marcin Robak was slightly offside as his shot slammed into the net. 20 minutes later his header was brilliantly saved by Kurto and Piast seemed unable to contain him.
However, luck seemed to be against the Ekstraklasa leading goalscorer as his third great chance cannoned off the crossbar in the 24th minute. The second half kicked off, and Piast seemed to look to capitalise on Pogon's missed opportunities.
In the 52nd minute, Takuya Murayama struck the upright and Pogon looked destined to never score until 10 minutes later, when Alan Blajewski calmly slotted a great throughball from Robak, making it 1-0 for the visitors.
Piast clicked into gear after conceding, and Erik Moreno equalised for the home team after Janukiewicz failed to grab the ball after it had spilt across the goal face from a corner. Pogon were not disenheartened however, and when all attention turned to Marcin Robak as he collected the ball in the box, the ball spilt to right winger Takuya Murayama and he strolled into an open goal, making it 2-1 Pogon after 76 minutes.
But Piast weren't done, and when Radoslaw Muraski's beautiful long shot soared over the outstretched fingers of Janukiewicz, Pogon slumped. They just couldn't win.
In the end, the match finished a 2-2 draw, and with all the goals scored in last half hour it was great viewing for neutral spectators. However, it was hell for Pogon who are still searching for that magical win as they sit in the relegation zone. Under pressure manager Sean-Paul Lodovico needs to win against 3rd placed Widzew to have any hope of surviving.
