Transfers

*NOTE* I did loan players out, I just didn't want to show you a whole list of them.

After last season's mega spend, we didn't need to sign any top class players and so we could afford to focus on bringing in youth instead. Fernando Riquelme (DC) left in a mega £25M move to to PSG, who appear to have taken a fancy to all of our defenders in recent years. In came four very promising youngsters. Irish striker Aaron Allen joined from Limerick and could become the next Robbie Keane. Portuguese striker Telmo Ferreira and Brazilian attacking midfielder Adílson Francisco were two youngsters who came in to play some senior football in their first season at the club, the latter more than the former. Mark Dunphy (DL) was available at a very good price and there was no hesitation on our part in bringing our city rival's prized youngster across to play in our U21s.

Overall, we spent just under £9M on four promising young players, and gained £25M through the sale of Riquelme.

FA Community Shield

It took a penalty shoot-out for us to come out victorious in a thrilling community shield clash against Manchester City. Despite what people think of this competition, I love winning it as it is a trophy, no matter how "insignificant" it may be.

UEFA Super Cup

The Super Cup clash with Benfica was much more one-sided as we ran out 5-0 winners. We truly played them off the pitch, and it would prove to be a sign of things to come this season.

Barclays Premier League

We continued on from last season and destroyed every single team in our path. We won every single game up until April, where Swansea and West Ham held out for draws, although I won't complain with a 36-2-0 record! Highlights of the season include winning 4-0 away to Manchester City on Boxing Day, hammering Harry Kane's West Ham side 11-0 at home in February and demolishing Chelsea 4-0 just four days later. The low points are obviously the draws, not that they're that bad.


Despite gaining more points than we did the previous season, the title chase was a little closer. Manchester City claimed a very impressive 96 points, which stood them 14 points behind our 110. We broke Aston Villa's record for most goals in the top flight in a single season which was set at 128 (from back in the 1930s), and we have set it at 133. Christiaan Pattinama claimed the Golden Boot, scoring 38 league goals this season and breaking Shearer's record. The Dutch striker recorded 75 goals in all competitions this season, which I do believe beat Messi's record of 73 club goals in a single season in all competitions, but correct me if I'm wrong.

UEFA Champions League

We steamrolled the group stages as per usual before crushing Atlético Madrid in the Last 16. Benfica proved to be no challenge in the quarter-finals, and we defeated Manchester City in the semi-finals with relative ease. We faced Zidane's Real Madrid side in the final and it was a Christiaan Pattinama brace which saw us hold on to our European crown. Success had surely been ingrained in to the club by that stage.

FIFA Club World Cup

My second string team demolished Okayama FC in the semi-finals to the sound of 4-0, which saw us face River in the final. The final was not much more of a challenge, as Wetzel & Pattinama inspired us to a 3-0 victory and saw us named Champions Of The World.

FA Cup

Brighton? A piss-take. Everton? A laughing stock. Leicester? Beaten in our sleep. Stoke City? A warm-up. Manchester City? Now, they were the real challenge, but not even the Citizens could stop us as we marched on to the final once more. Liverpool promised to throw up some sort of challenge, but they failed and we ran out 4-0 winners at Wembley to claim the cup once more. Pattinama proved to be the FA Cup star, although he was the star in every competition!

Capital One Cup

For once we actually made progress in this competition. We booked ourselves another Wembley date, only to find Manchester City in our way once more. It was a great attacking display as we ran out 4-3 winners, with Christiaan Pattinama claiming all the plaudits. Can anybody stop him?!?

Whitehawk News

Aside from winning seven trophies this season, we continued to upgrade our facilities.

World Football

I did NOT manage Brazil during this World Cup competition, I only took the reigns of them after it. Serbia proved to be the dark horses and Whitehawk striker-turn-winger Miodrag Kostic scored the winning goal in the final to bring the World Cup back home to the mighty Serbia. Whitehawk captain Albert Wetzel was awarded the FIFA Ballon d'Or award, with club & country partner Christiaan Pattinama claiming the runners-up spot. Six Whitehawk players were named in the starting eleven of the FIFA World Dream Team, while Zenit won the UEFA Europa League.

Ta31_a, we finally came good!

Transfers

Many players left the club as I looked to cut the wage bill and refresh the face of the squad. Club hero Sergio Álvarez (MC) left for Swansea in search of more first-team football, while we made a massive profit on Mark Dunphy (DL) who had signed for just £130k one year ago. One and a half seasons after his £62M move from Barcelona, Pinga was sold to Monaco for £45M. The Brazilian full-back had served his purpose at the club and performed exceptionally to take the club to the next level. While we made a considerable loss in terms of transfer fees, his contribution was invaluable. Norwegian midfielder Thomas Granvang (MC) was sold to league rivals Manchester City for £20M. The midfielder was a back-up player in my squad but would become a key player for the Citizens. Killian Moreau (DC) was sold to P Ferreira for £7.5M, while goalkeeper Oscar Payton made a £15M move to Genoa, having fallen behind Claudio Elorrieta in the pecking order. Baba Adebayo didn't develop in to the central defender we had originally hoped he would become when he signed him from Leeds, and so we sold him to Derby for a considerably smaller fee. Last but not least, academy graduate Russell Andrews was sold to Norwich for £9M as he failed to make the jump from U21s to our senior squad, despite performing well on loan at Brighton the previous season.

We spent our money on youth that season, bringing in no less than 16 players aged 18 or younger. There were not too many English youngsters on the market, and our English acquisitions were Roger Hartley (DM), Bernard Taylor (AML/ST), Sam Wilkinson (AMC) and Tony Hood (MC). Hartley and Hood looked the more promising of the four, and commanded the considerably larger transfer fees. The best of the sixteen players signed included Marius Scherping (AMC), Fernando Olivera (DL), Souleymane Sarr (DC) and Lucas Echegaray (AMR). We'll soon find out whether they were worth the fees.

FA Community Shield

In yet another Community Shield encounter against Manchester City, we ran out 3-2 winners courtesy of an 89th minute winner from French striker Hippolyte Chabbert. We were delighted to win this trophy again, a great start to the season.

UEFA Super Cup

We had another trophy in the cabinet after the Super Cup where English stars Stephen Murray and Matt Ursell ran the show, scoring three between them to down Russian giants Zenit.

Barclays Premier League

We were in cruise control in the league once more as we once again held a record of 36-2-0. We kept scoring and scoring.... and scoring. Our defensive record was very pleasing and we had a variety of players performing as I rotated the squad regularly. A 6-1 victory over Manchester City in May was the most pleasing for me, while low points came in the two draws, against Newcastle and Arsenal.


110 points again, this time 30 points ahead of second place.... Manchester United. Man City slipped down to 5th, with former manager Jurgen Klopp no longer at the club after retiring. Sami Hyypia's Southampton side did well to finish fourth, while Liverpool survived relegation by goal difference!

UEFA Champions League

The group stage was a walk in the park, as expected. Last 16 opponents Leverkusen stood no chance against us, while Bayern Munich were no more of a challenge in the quarter finals. A 6-3 victory over Manchester United in the semi-finals set us up against Zidane's Real Madrid, where the final would be played in the Santiago Bernabeau. The game was a true European classic, as it finished 3-3 at full-time. It was our English midfielder Matt Ursell who scored the decisive goal, just before half-time in extra time. The playmaker dribbled past two players before playing an intricate one-two with Wetzel on the edge of the box and then firing in to the roof of the net, securing our third consecutive Champions League trophy.

FIFA Club World Cup

Christiaan Pattinama inspired us to an 8-0 victory over Al-Hilal of Sudan in the semi-finals, before we claimed the title once more with a 4-0 victory over Cruz Azul in the final. Champions of the world once more!

FA Cup

I'll let the results do the talking. We smashed everybody on our way to the final, where we faced Manchester United. We came out 5-0 winners to claim our fifth consecutive FA Cup in a row. We've now won 6 in total, and will look to make it 7 next season!

Capital One Cup

Hippolyte Chabbert inspired us in this tournament as he scored in every single round that we played in. Manchester United (once again) were our opponents in the final but Chabbert dispatched them with ease.

Brazil Fixtures

My first game in charge of Brazil was in the Superclasico vs a very very strong Argentina side. I experimented with a tactic of mine for this match (a 3-4-2-1 of sorts) and we held on for penalties, which we came out victorious from. Another trophy for my collection!

World Football

It was a Whitehawk white-wash for the FIFA Ballon d'Or as Christiaan Pattinama came first, with Miodrag Kostic placing second and Albert Wetzel in third. Five Whitehawk players were named in the FIFA World Dream Team, including 19 year old Stephen Murray (suck it Walter! *Private joke*). Manchester City won the Europa League, setting up a European Super Cup clash against ourselves for the coming season.

The one and only reason I chose to take on the Brazil job was to attempt to win the Copa América. We had a strong squad and were rated alongside Argentina as favourites to win the competition. This was also a chance for me to experiment tactically and to create an interesting and unique system that I could mess around with. In this preview I will show you the groups of the upcoming Copa America tournament, the players in my Brazil squad and the three tactics that I would be using in this tournament.

Group Stages

We were drawn in a very tough group where we would face Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. All three teams had very strong players in their ranks who could pose as problems to us. However, we were still favourites to top the group and only victories would be deemed acceptable to our fans. Would we go on to deliver the goods? You'll have to wait to find out.

Former Whitehawk defender was captain of the squad. Key players included goalkeeper Gilmar, former Whitehawk striker Natanael and Juventus midfielder William Helier. We had plenty of creative quality while our weaknesses may have been in defensive errors.

Tactics

The main tactic prepared for the tournament was a 3-4-2-1. It provided cover in all areas of the pitch and plenty of domination in midfield. I took inspiration from Brendan Rodgers' 3-4-2-1 system and Pep Guardioal's mixed tactical systems at Bayern Munich, while also retaining the Samba qualities of Brazil. Alongside the 3-4-1-2 tactic, I prepared a 4-1-2-1-2 tactic and a 4-2-3-1 tactic. They offered variety in approach.

Group Stages

4-1 win vs Peru, 13/06/2031 @ Hernando Siles, Bolivia
Natanael powers home a header from a looping Pacato cross to make it 4-1
Nerves hit the Brazil camp ahead of the opening group game of the 2031 Copa America against Peru and this showed as Peru took a 12th minute lead through Roberto Farfán. However, Brazil slowly and surely settled in to the game and a Roberto Rodas own goal leveled the game just five minutes before half time. Brazil then went on to dominate the second half but failed to break through Peru's defence until after the hour mark. It was from specialist corner routines where Brazil excelled, as defenders Balao and Zulu scored powerful headers from well-worked set-piece routines in the 70th & 73rd minutes respectively to give Brazil a strong lead. Substitute striker Natanael provided the killer goal, powering home an unstoppable header at the near post from a Pacato right-wing cross to give Brazil a three goal lead with just seven minutes left to play. A fantastic opening day victory for Prince William's side!

1-0 win vs Uruguay, 18/06/2031 @ Hernando Siles, Bolivia
Kito volleyed home a stunning volley from 15 yards to claim the only goal of the game
This was always going to be our toughest game of the group stage and Uruguay's defence was certainly tougher to break down than Peru's. However, our defensive unity denied Uruguay any real chances to score and we did find the back of their net, albeit just once. Pacato took a quick throw to find Natanael who had roamed to a wide area. Natanael beat his marker and delivered a low cross to Kito who, from fifteen yards out, unleashed a powerful volley which surged past Sebastián Guala in the Uruguay goal. A goal worthy of winning any game!

6-0 Win vs Venezuela, 23/06/2031 @ Félix Capriles, Bolivia
Lucas scores his side's fifth goal in a dominant 6-0 victory over Venezuela
This was by far our easiest fixture in the group stages, and the scoreline showed this. We recorded 32 shots, compared to Venezuela's meager 2. First half goals from Mosquito, Goncalves (2) and Zulu set us on our way to a comfortable victory, and Lucas and Zulu scored after the break to secure top spot in the group and a 100% record to match.
Zulu (Brazil) - 9.4/10


As you can see, we easily topped our group with Uruguay finishing in second. We scored the most goals of any country so far in the tournament. Paraguay, Chile, Argentina and Colombia qualified for the quarter finals out-right alongside us, while Bolivia and Ecuador qualified as "lucky losers".

Knock-Out Rounds

3-2 win vs Bolivia (Quarter Finals), 28/06/2031 @ Oruro Community Stadium, Bolivia
Mosquito's composed Panenka-style penalty gave Brazil their third goal of the game
The scoreline does NOT do our performance any justice. We had 52 shots in all, compared to Bolivia's 8. Goncalves broke the deadlock and gave us the lead from kick-off as he connected with an Alfredo Marques cross to beat the Bolivian goalkeeper. Our defence fell asleep twice throughout the whole game, and Luis Cuéllar of Bolivia capitalised on the first lapse, equalising after just 20 minutes. Jaílson scored an acrobatic effort before Mosquito's daft penalty gave us a 3-1 lead going in to half-time. We continued to put tremendous pressure on Bolivia, but couldn't find a fourth goal as the host nation capitalised on yet another defensive error through Carlos Guzmán in the 56th minute. We continued to create chances but were unable to take them in a very eventful game.

3-2 win vs Paraguay (Semi Finals), 01/07/2031 @ Oruro Community Stadium, Bolivia
Lucas' first half hat-trick sent Brazil through to the Copa América final
It was another dominant performance from Brazil, yet Paraguay somehow collected two goals. Brazil's Lucas volleyed home from a Pacato cross to open the game in the 11th minute, but Juan Sanabria equalised of Paraguay equalised no more than eight minutes later. A Lucas header from yet another Pacato delivery restored Brazil's lead and Lucas recorded his hat-trick before half time as Natanael's shot deflected off his knee and in to the goal. Juan Sanabria grabbed his and Peru's second of the game in the second half but Brazil deservedly claimed victory.

The Final

3-2 win AET vs Argentina (Final), 05/07/2031, Hernando Siles, Bolivia
William Heiler's looping header in extra time handed Brazil the Copa América crown
It was only ever going to be Argentina who would stand in our way in the final, and it was a spectacular display of attacking football from both sides. In goals for Brazil was Manchester United stopper Gilmar, while Whitehawk's Claudio Elorrieta stood guard in the Argentina goals. Both sides created many chances in a thrilling encounter, with Pituca of Brazil breaking the deadlock in the second minute. The midfielder controlled the ball outside of the box before unleashing a 20 yard piledriver which ripped the back of Argentina's net, giving Brazil a vital early goal. Brazil doubled their lead just after half-time through Goncalves. Mosquito wriggled his way through the Argentine defence before unleashing a curling effort across goal. Claudio Elorrieta pulled off a ridiculous unworldly save for Argentina but the ball fell to striker Goncalves, who made no mistake in doubling Brazil's lead.

However, Argentina were not dead and burried yet and striker Agustín Sellechia found space in the box to half the deficit. Brazil were then awarded an 82nd minute penalty and up stepped Pituca to kill the game off. However, Elorrieta came to Argentina's rescue and tipped the ball around the post to invigorate his side late on. Argentina did get their equaliser, and there was no better time than in the ninety-second minute! Juan Vicente had space on the left and cut back across goal for Diego German Cavenaghi to bring his side back in to the game. Extra-time awaited both sides....

Having let a two goal lead slip and missing a penalty which would have settled the game, Prince William was undoubtedly infuriated with his side's performance. He let his feelings be known, which appeared to bring life back to his players as they discovered a new lease of life. It was after 100 minutes of play when Brazil discovered the all-important winning goal. Mosquito and Natanael linked up on the left wing, with the former picking out William Heiler in the box. The captain for the game put his all in to the resulting header, and he saw the ball loop over the head of Claudio Elorrieta and in to the back of the net, stunning. It was only ever going to be a captain's goal to win the Copa América, and what a goal it was! A carbon copy of Steven Gerrard's in Istanbul all those years ago. And so, Brazil and Prince William had won the Copa América!

Samba Strike 3-4-2-1

This is the tactic which I used for the entire tournament. I did switch to a 4-1-2-1-2 or a 4-2-3-1 with a few minutes to go in some games in order to take off and rest a central defender. I have uploaded this tactic here and it is available for download. I have said before and I will continue to say it, my tactics do NOT provide you with instantly good results. They are just a way of playing. Losing a game while using this tactic isn't necessarily the fault of the tactic. Even the best tacticians in the world (real life) lose games!
