PRE-SEASON REVIEW

“I have put the lads through their paces, prepare for a different team this year” – Zinedine Zidane

Results

A solid pre-season overall. The most pleasing aspect was the attitude of the players. Each and everything one of them was disappointed with last season, now they all want to kick on and improve. It was great for us to get the new lads involved, they have all settled very quickly and it is has shown in their football.

Fisher has been excellent, scoring five goals. The lads have really taken to him, he’s a very bright and talent prospect. I have every faith in him to do well in Merseyside. Roberts joined us late on pre-season as he was away on international duty for the beginning. However once he started he has also seemed to develop a good understanding with his new team mates.

Considering we were not at full strength the results were very pleasing. It was disappointing to lose the one game, but the result has no importance. I was looking for a response from the players. They showed true spirit and determination throughout.

It was great to see the lads score goals and a number of them too. It is something we try to pride ourselves on, as the same season pans out we will look to keep a tight lid our own goal too.

“Best Englishman since Rooney”

This week Ross Barkley took time out of training to talk to the FourFourTwo Magazine, we spoke to Ross about life in Everton, their hopes for the season and to get his take on the new faces around the training ground.
B - Barkley
R – Reporter

R – Hi Ross, thanks for your time today. Firstly how are you feeling ahead of the new season?

B – Hi, I’m good! Been working hard on my fitness over the summer, I have been working closely with the physio’s so raring to go.

R – Yes, because you suffered a lot with injuries last season didn’t you?

B – Yeah, my season was stop and start. It worked out at around eight month’s worth of injuries collectively.

R – Do you feel that has put your place in the team under threat?

B - Ofcourse, the boss cant pick me if I have not been playing. Leon did so well last season in my absence, this season Patrick has come in and blown everyone away with what he can do. So defiantly I’m going to have to work hard.

R – You say Roberts has surprised everyone, how good is he?

B – I would say he’s the best young English talent since Wayne Rooney arrived

R – That is quite a statement?

B – I’m sure he will be a true start in the future, watch this space.

R – How is it working for someone like Zinedine Zidane

B – Honestly, he was my hero growing up. So it has been great, I’ve learnt a lot so quickly.

R – What did you make of the teams performance last season?

B – I think it was just poor consistency, the boss touched on it a lot within the media. It was our Achilles heel!

R – What are you hoping for this season?

B – The lads are always wanting to develop and improve, we look like a completely side already.
An unlucky first season in charge. From the results, I sensed your Everton team was nearly there, but just couldn't find the consistency to keep up with the top 7 (European spots). With that being said, there wasn't a lot in between 12th to 8th.

You've bought well this season. Fischer looks to be a great deal, already banging in the goals in pre-season, and everyone knows how good Balanta is. Pressure is on though, I'm sure. Best of luck :)
we were competing on three fronts for most of the season, everyone struggled with finding a balance I think. However onwards and upwards! Thanks mate:)

AUGUST UPDATE

“10 goals in 3 games is magnificent” – Zinedine Zidane

After a slow start I was very happy with the way we finished the first month of the season. West Ham proved a tricky game in what was a very tight game. West Ham’s very compact midfielder did not allow much space for our array of attacking players to manoeuvre.

In the second round of the Capital One Cup I gave a few of the rotation options a chance to impress. Vargas was given the nod ahead of Lukaku and did not let me down! The Chilean had a great game that did not go unnoticed.

To finish off, a nine goal game! It was complete madness. We started off great, Patrick Roberts has impressed me a lot. After having a season in the Championship he has adapted very well. He looks like he was always ready for it. It was goals galore, I was slightly disappointed to concede two but the way the boys performed I could not grumble too much.

Player of the Month

Patrick, defiantly. The young lad has surprised everyone at the club with his ability to adapt to life in the Premier League. He was very strong in the Championship last season, scoring ten goals and racking up thirteen assists. From this he has hit the ground running, scoring 2 goals and 2 assists. From what I have seen I will have no worries about him becoming a very important first team player for us.

SEPTEMBER UPDATE

“Despite the loses, we showed our strength in depth”

Very disappointing to start the month in defeat. Swansea played some very nice football, however we were not good enough. I made sure the lads knew that. I was delighted that Fischer got a goal but it was completely over shadowed.

From this though, the lads defiantly turned up for the following game. For one of the biggest games of our season two, with giants Manchester City coming to town. The boys worked incredibly hard and persevered throughout the ninety minutes. It was a big win that can give the boys confidence for the season.

The lads took this momentum into two games any two London sides, the boys comfortably wiped Fulham out of the Capital One Cup and played some very attractive football. However when we came up against Chelsea it was not the same outcome.

The blues were very strong, as expected. They started very quickly and we just could not handle them. Despite growing into the game, Chelsea held on for the victory. However I was proud of how hard the boys worked.

Player of the Month

Viktor has been great for us this month. He has really worked hard for the team and made the spot on the left wing his own. He has also hit the ground running, he looks destined to improve into a great player. He’s been a tricky customer for opposition defenders, alongside being a nightmare to play against he has bagged himself two goals and two assists.
Chelsea & Swansea away were never gonna be easy but a great win over City!
Justice - Defiantly! thanks mate! :)

OCTOBER REVIEW

“We’re just getting started” – Zinedine Zidane

An undefeated month in the Premier League. What a month for the boys, they have been playing with such confidence this season. It has shown in the quality of our football too. To get three wins and a draw against potentially tricky opponents was very pleasing.
Our back four has been something we wanted to improve on the back of last year. We felt we were conceding too many goals, and defiantly too many goals in the big games. Balanta and Stones have formed a very nice partnership, allowing us to keep more clean sheets. Only conceding one goal in the Premier League this month was a real positive.

Playing Chelsea just a month after we faced them in the League was tough, they fielded a completely different side, however they were still very strong. Just to show the incredible strength in depth they have. They were simply the better side, now we have a chance to focus on the Premier League and work towards our goals for the season.

The victory of Tottenham shows how far we have come this the start of the season, I was very happy with the boys this month. There hard work is paying off and we’re just getting started for the season. We’ll working towards more of the same.

Player of the Month

When pondering over who to give the award to this month, I was hoping not to award the same player so soon after they have already won it. However I could not ignore what Patrick Roberts has done for us this month. He is settling the Premier League a light with his attacking ability. With a man of the match performance against Spurs and a goal against Chelsea, he is showing he is going to relish the big matches. An unfortunate training ground injury to Ross Barkley, has Roberts gain an extended run in the side, which he has grabs with two hands.

DEBUT TO REMEMBER FOR ROBERTS

http://i62.tinypic.com/fa0evq.jpg

“I’ll never forget tonight” – Patrick Roberts

Young Everton midfielder Patrick Roberts got a during the week that every boy dreams. Being told he was going to be lining up with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart and representing his country.

It was reported that Roy Hogdson was in deep discussion with Everton boss Zinedine Zidane about Roberts for a few weeks. This is what Roy told us: ” I have seen a lot of him, he has been bright this season. Having spoken to his manager I know a lot more about him, we want to get him involved”.

England travelled to face Northern Ireland in a friendly match. Roberts would have been ecstatic to be involved, however he never imagined he would have been named in the starting line-up. There were familiar faces around for Roberts, Everton team mates Baines, Stones and Ross Barkley all started alongside the youngster.

Just when Roberts thought it couldn’t get any better, he went on to put in a man of the match performance and score his first International goal. A well taken curling effort from the edge of the area put England 3-0 up within the first half. Alongside the goal he also set up the first two goals for the three lions.

The stand out performance of Roberts did not go unnoticed by fans and pundits alike as the Everton player received heaps of praise. Roberts was handed the man of the match award by captain Wayne Rooney. When asked about Roberts performance, this is what Rooney had to say:” He was fantastic from the first to the last whistle, he made it easy for myself and Danny upfront”.

Here’s what Robert’s himself had to say: “ Well, I’ll never forget tonight. All the boys have helped me, the coaching staff have been excellent and I just hope for more of the same in the future.”
September was not quite as good as your first month, but, except for the Swansea result, it was pretty good with that win over City. October's looking much better! Still early days yet and Fischer looks to have settled in nicely, so there's a lot to build upon!
