Rui Patrício signs new deal

The Lions captain, Rui Patrício, signed a new deal with Sporting for the next 5 years.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper, that made his debut with 18 years old, almost 10 years ago, has now a contract until 2021.
He have been the main choice for the first team as goalkeeper since he was 19 years old, and have played more than 300 matches with the green-and-white shirt. And has become one of the players with the most games, with the chance in the next years to become the player with most games ever in Sporting's history.
After his first season he won for the first time the Stromp Award, as the Revelation of the year. He would also win the Stromp Award - Player of the year, twice, in 2011 and 2012.
Rui Patrício's new contract has a release clause in the value of €100M, and the legendary goalkeeper will be receiving €212,000 a month during the next five years.
In an interview to Sporting TV after the announcement of the new contract, Rui Patrício said: "With my continuity at Sporting, for at least 5 more years, I also hope to help our young players, to understand that Sporting is not a club to pass by in order to reach another. It is the top. With my example, I hope they understand that it's possible to reach the main team, play for the National Team, and be happy in the portuguese league".
Sporting fan's have already shown their happiness with the news about the new contract of São Patrício (Saint Patrício), as he's sometimes called by them.
Patricio has always been an unbelievable keeper and servant, great to get him tied down for another 5 years!

Absolutely ran away with the league title there, time for bigger and better things in Europe, I'd imagine!
1
Maximus: Thanks a lot man :)

Jack: I hope so, yes :) But this next year I'll be trying to take the club in a good way financially. And as we've some talent from the academy, I'll be giving a lot of them the opportunity to shine in the first team. The biggest objective for the season will be the Primeira Liga again, Sporting haven't won 2 in a row since 1948, this time beetween 8 season (46/47 to 53/54) we won 7 titles, and since then we won 8 in more than 60 years :(
9 titles now with this season win already ingame.
