Golden Shoe

Teo Gutiérrez was placed in third place in the Golden Shoe 2015/2016.
The colombian international scored 21 Goals, in 30 matches for the Lions.
Teo arrived at Sporting coming from River Plate for a fee of €3.4M, last Summer.
In this first season with the Lions shirt, Teo have won the Primeira Liga, Supertaça and Taça da Liga.
Teo have been on a great round of throphies on his teams for the last years. In the last two seasons before arriving at Sporting, he had won a total of 5 throphies, including the Copa Libertadores with River Plate.
There are two players that have won the Golden Shoe at the service of Sporting. The first, in 1973/74, Héctor Yazalde, who scored 46 goals in this year for the league. This was a record in the Golden Shoe since it's inception in 1967/68, and was only broken in 2011/12, when Lionel Messi scored 50.
The second player that won it with the green-and-white shirt was Mário Jardel, in the season of 2001/02, Jardel scored 42 goals in the Primeira Liga. Jardel had already won it, at the service of Porto, 3 years before, with 36 goals.
Gutiérrez seems a star for the fee that Sporting got him for! Won't be long until Premier League sides will be snooping around, so get him tied down to a new deal quickly!
Teo is very much a brilliant striker, hopefully you can hold onto him!
Jack & Nick_H: He was really amazing, But there's some interest, let's see if he also wants to stay :)

Esgaio until 2020

Ricardo Esgaio signed a new deal with Sporting until 2020.
Esgaio arrived at Sporting with 12 years old, and he was a essencial part of the defensive for the Lions this season.
The portuguese full back, was a part of the Portuguese National Team Under 21, that lost the final of the EuroCup U21.
The new deal, signed yesterday, will increase Esgaio's earning to €92,000 per month, and doesn't include a release clause.
He made his debut for the first team in 2012, in a Europa League match against Videoton.
An awesome season mate and good to see you tie down an academy player for the future.

Jefferson's leaving Sporting

The fight beetween Manchster City and Monaco for Sporting's left back, Jefferson, have finally end.
And the french side went on to get the man they wanted.
The first approach was made by Manchester City, offering something like €18M for the brazilian. But Sporting's intentions were for a bigger transfer, and so they started asking for €35M.
This value were never met, either by Manchester City or Monaco, that later joined the race, but the mark of €30M was, and that's how much the Ligue 1 team payed to the Lions.
Jefferson had arrived at Sporting in 2013, for a €0,7M fee, and leaves three years later, as the record selling for the club.
The portuguese press is talking about Jefferson's sucessor, and with no surprise the first name to come to the headlines is Real Madrd's player, Fábio Coentrão, who made his way to the big time in Jorge Jesus's Benfica. It's believed that the portuguese player may be available for a price close to €10M.

The Lions made finally their first move on this transfers market.
The new sign in of Sporting, is portuguese full back, Rúben Barbosa.
Barbosa arrives at Sporting on a year-long loan, from dutch side Heerenveen, with a buying clause during the time of the loan of €3M.
The young portuguese player just completed 19 years old this month, and played in his youth for Sporting rivals, Porto.
Rúben Barbosa is likely to be the back-up for the left side of the defence, where Jonathan Silva will possibly be the main man for the position.

Five Olympic players

William Carvalho, João Mário, Carlos Mané, Alvarez Balanta and Jonathan Silva will be playing at the 2016 Olympic Games.
The first three for Portugal, Balanta for Colombia and Jonathan for Argentina.

This means that they'll at least fail the first two games of the season - the supercup, against rivals Benfica, and the Primeira Liga debut, in Barcelos, against Gil Vicente.

"We can do better"

Sporting's coach, Jorge Jesus, was present at an interview in portuguese tv, RTP.

Questioned about last season, Jesus said "It was a good season, because we could get the Primeira Liga title back to Alvalade after a long time. But I know that we can do better. Sporting must fight for every title we play in, and succeed in winning them."

Of course that the Champions League campaing was also discussed, "We were happy to get through the Play-offs and then reach the Round of 16, but nodoby can be indiferent about the way we were eliminated. There's the feeling that it could be us in the Champions League final, instead of Dynamo, who eventually lost it to PSG".

About the new season, Jesus talked mainly about the objectives for the year, and about the transfers market:

"We have the same main objective as last year. To be portuguese champions. It's been decades since Sporting won two Primeira Ligas in a row, and we want to do it this season".
"And then, of course, we believe we can last longer in the Champions League. This year we are already in the Group Stage, and if we get through, we have the quality to fight for the quarter finals".

"William Carvalho will not leave. It's true there was some offers for him, as some other players, but he's happy at Sporting and we'll be playing for us next season".
"Rúben Barbosa is on loan, but we hope to bring him to the club in a definite way. This was the best way to do the deal at this moment, but we have a lot of faith on him".
"Yes, Coentrão was a target for some time. But we need to take into account the reality of portuguese football. We're not able to pay salaries like Coentrão's".
"I didn't ask for any more players, no. I've already some real good improvements for next year, with players that were loaned out. Luís Ribeiro will be back to be the back up for goalkeeper, Tobias Figueiredo will have Vlaar's place, Miguel Lopes will fight for Esgaio's place, then there's some very talented youth for the midfield, with Palhinha, Gauld and Wallyson, and there's also Iuri Medeiros to play as a winger".
