Busy October brings yet more wins for Dortmund fans

Ingolstadt VS Dortmund 1-1

The opening match of the month didn't start too well for Dortmund, as they conceded a last second goal which saw the home side snatch a point in the dying breaths of the game.

Dortmund dominated from star to finish, as Bean took the risk to play his second string XI, as he looked to give his starters the rest they deserved to keep them fresh for the big seven game month.

Gonzalo Castro scored what Dortmund believed to be the winner after 87 minutes, heading in from close range, after Erik Durm was able to flick the ball on at the near post following a corner.

However a lucky long ball punt, bounced perfectly for young striker Maurice Multhuap, who was able to round Rulli in goal, the only first team player on the pitch and slot the ball home.

The home fans were left delighted where as the Dortmund fans were left pulling their hair out.

Dortmund VS Augsburg 7-0

A match that was shown throughout the night and following days, around the world. Not often do sides dominate as much as Dortmund did today, it was a match that the visiting players will remember for a long time.

Aubameyang was the star of the show scoring five goals himself.

The striker scored twice in the opening 15 minutes, both running onto through balls, one from Pogba and the other from Weigl. But they both ended in the same way, Aubameyang blasting them into the far corner and watching them nestle into the corner of the goal.

Bruma, who was replacing Marco Reus following that bad training ground injury, scored the third goal, heading home from a Mkhitaryan cross.

Aubameyang then scored three goals in 10 minutes, to make his game tally five. The hat-trick goal was a superb solo goal, as he jinxed past three defenders, before curling it into the far corner. He scored four minutes later, heading home from a cross by Bruma. Five minutes later he volleyed home from close range, when a long range shot from Paul Pogba was well saved, only for it rebound in the direction of the striker.

With the game drawing to an end at 6-0, Dortmund players appeared to be taking their foot off the pedal. But Mustafi finished off the misery, scoring a powerful header in added time to make it 7-0 and truly humiliate the visitors.

Dortmund VS Valencia 3-2

In dramatic fashion, a second string Dortmund side, with the aid of some familiar faces off the bench, were able to snatch a win against Valencia in a truly entertaining match.

It was actually the 52nd minute, which saw the first of the five goals of the game and it came from Valencia striker Rodrigo. Rafa laid the ball off to the striker following a free kick and he blasted the goal into the top right corner.

With Dortmund fans encouraging their side, it took just 33 seconds to bring the scores level once more. a cross from the fullback Park, found former Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths who headed home from literally a yard or two out and the scores were tied once more.

A swift and furious counter-attach started by Bruma, was ended by Bruma when he latched onto a vicious delivery from Erik Durm on the opposite wing, to poke the ball past the keeper and turn the game on its head.

Then Mehmet Topal had the worst 10 minutes of football seen for a while, he firstly blasted a penalty miles high and even further wide. But just 10 minutes later, on the 71 minute mark, the midfielder somehow managed to header the ball into his own net from a corner making it 2-2.

But a great piece of skill from the winger Bruma, allowed him to find Paul Pogba, fresh from the bench, who swivelled and picked out Aubameyang with a delightful pass. The striker dutifully slotted the ball over the onrushing keeper and brought home all three points.

Leverkusen VS Dortmund 0-2

A rather effective and strong performance from Dortmund, while not being superb as a team, they allowed the home side no chances of their own and their superior individual was enough to create two goals on the day.

A fine pass from Aubameyang to find Bruma, saw the winger shot superbly saved. But as Bean explained to the press many times, he trained his players to always attack the ball no matter what, it was this intent that saw Mkhitaryan get to the ball first and toe poke the ball past an out of position keeper.

This time it was a swift counter-attack which saw the second and final goal of the game. Castro ended up with the ball on the near side, before floating a long cross towards the back post, it picked out Mkhitaryan with ease and the Armenian winger chipped it over the onrushing keeper.

It wasn't the prettiest of games, but Dortmund will be happy with the three points all the same.

Plauen VS Dortmund 1-3, DFB-Pokal

A second string side besides Bruma, took to the field yet again this month, as this fixture presented Bean with a chance to keep his squad players content.

But the side from the sixth tier of German football shockingly took the lead against Dortmund, a long punt down field from the home sides keeper, found striker Noel Dunker (what a name I know) who managed to round Sam Johnstone in goal and take the lead for the home side.

But just 15 minutes later, Moritz Leitner picked out Bruma in the area with pin point precision and the winger who had been in fine form thus far in his stint as Marco Reus replacement, picked out the bottom corner with ease.

Moritz Leitner was again the key player for the second goal, his original cross was blocked well but with his second chance he was able to put the ball in the path of Shane Long who first time blasted the ball home.

The game was a tough one to call for most of the second half, as Dortmund dominated but couldn't find a third goal and the home side, looked on in hope at the fact they were still only one goal away.

In the end however, Dortmund were able to secure the expected victory, as Bruma scored again, this time a wonderful individual goal, to win the game for the visitors.

The winger was found in acres of space on the near side of the 16 yard box, he skinned his man and curled it into the far corner before running off to celebrate with the away fans.

Dortmund VS Schalke 2-0

The fiercest rivalry in Germany according to some and it was back yet again. Schalke were struggling for form in the last five games, despite their strong start to the season.

With the advantage of being at home and their visitors poor form, Dortmund fans were expectant of three points. The home side did not disappoint.

The away side, set up to counter-attack and as a result very little of note occurred in the first half until the 30th minute. A wonderful pass from Bruma, found Jorge on the opposite flank and the fullback who was able to pick out Aubameyang with a first time cross and fittingly so, the striker thundered in a first time volley to take the lead and send the fans into raptures.

The second goal was set up by Mario Fernandes on the opposite wing as he was given all day to pick out Aubameyang in the centre of the box, his cross fizzed across the face of goal and Aubameyang who did appear offside, turned it home at the far post.

The only sour note for Dortmund was that José Giménez was sent off for a brutal and intentional elbow to the face of Sebastian Haller when contesting for a header.

Valencia VS Dortmund 2-3

Another thrilling match but three points that confirmed qualification already for Dortmund. The match was marred by Bruma going down with an injury that Bean confirmed will rule him out for at least three months.

It was the opposite winger in Mkhitaryan who opened the scoring, volleying home a delightful cross by Mario Fernandes after a series of passes from the Dortmund side, tiring out the Valencia defenders.

Leigh Griffiths continued to stun the Champions League neutral fans, as he scored yet another goal so far this tournament. An amazing through ball by Ruben Neves was exactly where Griffiths needed it to be, to run onto it and blast it into the near top corner with venom.

A Dortmund collapse gave the home fans confidence however as an added time goal in the first half, courtesy of Paco Alcacer header at the near post followed by a 69th minute equaliser from Danilo, again another header, saw Bean shaking his head on the sidelines.

But just one minute later, Aubameyang pulled off a moment of magic, as he found the top right corner with such velocity the ball is barely visible as it flies in.

Mangers Overview

Of course I am delighted with this month, it was truly exceptional, it would have been a 100% if it wasn't for that 93rd minute goal we conceded in the opening game. I am particularly delighted with the performances of Aubameyang and we go from strength to strength.

That Aubameyang performance against Augsburg :O And some helpful wins against Valencia there :P

Joshua Bean confirms that Brum will miss three months with a broken foot

In a statement released today, Borussia Dortmund manager Joshua Bean has confirmed that summer signing Bruma, who has been in imperious form ever since replacing Reus on the right hand wing, since the German internationals own injury.

Bean even said a few days before Bruma got injured against Valencia that "he (Bruma) has been a revelation for the club and for such a small fee it is a star signing."

But in a statement today the club confirmed the following.

"Unfortunately the injury that Bruma suffered against Valencia two days ago, has gone through several X-Rays and has been confirmed as a broken foot. Bruma, who has been in fine form this month was visited by Bean at his home, where the manager wished him a quick recovery and told him that the rest of the side send their regards.

Reus is back in training, so will be able to return to the side very soon."

Until Marco Reus returns, it has been suggested by various members of the German press that Aubameyang will be shifted out on to the flanks and Leigh Griffiths will be playing up front as the lone striker.
@Jack Was amazing dude! I only have it on goal highlights so it was just popping up goal after goal hahah!

Footballing legend Xabi Alonso announces he will retire come the end of the season

The Spanish midfielder, 36, has announced that he is to retire come the conclusion of Borussia Dortmund's season.

The start of a legend

The 36 year old has enjoyed a hugely successful career, starting in 1999 where he made his senior team debut for Real Sociedad at the age of just 18 years. He was quickly loaned out to Spanish side Eibar in the 2000-2001 season, to gain experience at a first team level and when he returned to his club, only half way through that same season, he was quickly integrated as a key player, being made captain in an attempt to inspire the players to climb out of the relegation zone.

Alonso led his side successfully and they escaped.

The peak of his Real Sociedad career was finishing second place in 2003, just behind Real Madrid. It was the best season the Basque side had seen since their title winning side of 1981-82 and it was the first time that they had qualified for the Champions League.

He played 123 games for the Spanish side scoring 10 goals.

His first taste of Champions League glory

For a few months before his move to Liverpool, Alonso had been heavily tipped with a move to Real Madrid and it was only until things collapsed on the Madrid side, that Liverpool swooped for the player, signing him for a bargain fee of £10.7 million.

In his first season at the club, Liverpool went on to lose in the final of the Capital One Cup but completed one of the most historic come backs of all time, beating AC Milan 3-2 on penalties after being 3-0 down at half-time in the Champions League final.

Alonso was touted as a key reason as to why the Merseyside team completed such a come back, with fans agreeing that he was a key player.

He would also win the FA Cup, UEFA Super cup and Community Shield during his time at the club, but the Premier League title remained illusive, as well as losing in the 2007 Champions League final to AC Milan.

Due to a falling out with then manager Rafael Benítez, Alonso completed a £30 million move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2009.

He played 210 times for Liverpool scoring 19 goals.

Further success at Real Madrid

A side that Alonso wanted to join before his eventual move to Liverpool, saw him win four major trophies in his stint here.

In his debut season he helped Madrid to a club record amount of league points in 96, but they still finished second behind Barcelona by three points. But injury and suspension aside, every game he was able to play in, he started, making him a fan favourite of the fans due to his consistency.

2011 saw 'The Special One' Jose Mourinho become the new manager and while Alonso openly said that they should have won the league that year, he had to settle with just the Copa Del Rey.

But all was not lost for Alonso, the following season saw him finally win his first ever league title as a player as Madrid stormed the league and Alonso was tipped as being on of the driving forces behind the sides good form

While the next season was best forgotten, in 2013-2014 he was part of the historic and eventually legendary La Decima side.

Real Madrid won the Copa Del Rey yet again but the biggest achievement came, when they beat city rivals Atlético Madrid 4-1 in the Champions League, making them the first team in history to win 10 European titles.

He played 236 times for Madrid, scoring nine goals.

Move to German giants to trophy hauling

Despite winning yet another Champions League final, Alonso was on his way to Bayern Munich for an undisclosed fee on a two year deal.

Despite only being at the German side for two seasons, he won back to back Bundesliga titles as well as a DFB-Pokal which came in his first season.

On his debut for the Bavarian club, be broke the record of most passes by a single player, in a Bundesliga match, notching up a hugely impressive total of 196 passes in the game.

His short stint at the club, still saw him being labelled as one of the best holding midfielders in Europe.

His final transfer and yet more trophies

Borussia Dortmund had won the domestic double under rookie manager Joshua Bean and the young manager knew that his side could do with a holding midfield of immense quality.

With Alonso being touted around for a fee of just £5 million, Bean didn't hesitate in signing the illustrious player.

In his first season, Alonso was part of the Dortmund side that would go onto win the Bundesliga and Champions League last season. He played 39 times last season, for Dortmund, averaging a rating of 7.25 according to our experts and for a holding midfielder playing in a system which sees the wingers and fullbacks get the majority of the assists, is impressive indeed.

Bean was reportedly told first, by Alonso, about his decision to retire before the Spaniard confided in any of his team mates. Joshua Bean released this statement.

"While we are only a few months into the season, Xabi Alonso has confirmed to me that he will retire come the end of the season, he knows his place in the squad and he is happy. There is no discontent, this is just a great player, deciding his time has come.

It may just end up being two seasons together, but I am honoured to have managed one of the truly great players I grew up watching as a teenager, his professionalism should be pointed out by every coach, parents or adviser when trying to mould their son or daughters to play in the right way.

In his first season here, Alonso was very important in our title and Champions League winning squad, especially playing key defensive roles in the Champions League final, man managing one of the best attacks in Europe.

Alonso has asked me to tell the fans, that he has loved his playing time here and he has very firmly set his sights on leaving his footballing career winning every trophy there is to win this season, we have two and Alosno wants to collect the other four."

International Success

Alonso was lucky enough to be part of one of the greatest national sides of all time and for certain modern history.

He was a vital part of the Euro winning sides of 2008 and 2012 as well as the 2010 World Cup winning squad in South Africa.

He was part of one of the greatest midfields to grace a footballing pitch, playing alongside Xavi and Iniesta, making a truly great triangle of passers.

A real footballing legend is Alonso, you must be honoured to have him play for you no doubt and I hope that he wants to join the club in a coaching capacity at some stage!

Sad to see Alonso retiring, also you forgot to mention his wonderful beard in your career write up

A short November sees Dortmund struggle but remain unbeaten

Nurnburg VS Dortmund 0-3

A routine 3-0 which was becoming a regular occurrence this season for Borussia Dortmund, they yet again strangled the opposition and peppered away at their goal, eventually converting three well taken goals.

The opening goal on 26 minutes, was like so many others this season. A whipped in cross from a surging fullback, was met first time by Aubameyang who was able to nip in front of his marker and tap the ball in.

Aubameyang scored the first, from his new right wing position as Dortmund awaited Rues's fitness. But the second was scored by Aubameyang's replacement striker.

Leigh Griffiths who has been in fine form so far this season, after joining from Celtic, lashed home a half volley of his own following a pulled back pass from Mkhitaryan.

The best of the bunch was the third and final goal courtesy of Mkhitaryan, who executed a Zidane like volley, to secure all three points.

Dortmund VS Paderborn 4-0

Arguably the most straightforward games Dortmund will play this season, the away side actually had two players shown straight reds

Aubameyang scored twice in eight minutes in the first half, with both goals coming from the penalty spot and both challenges leading to the red cards. Two goals up and two players up by half time, this already easy enough match was made much easier.

Leigh Griffiths continued to match Aubameyang goal for goal this month however as he scored twice himself, both coming from headers at point blank range.

Dortmund will feel that with two extra men, they should have really put Paderborn to the sword, but a 4-0 victory is not to be sniffed at.

Dortmund VS FC København 1-1

A win today would more or less mean they are certain to finish first in their group, as their goal difference was greater than Arsenal's.

However things did not start to plan as Andreas Cornelius scored a goal after just 20 minutes, an awful back pass by Douglas saw the young Danish striker played straight through on goal and he was able to finish with ease.

However just two minutes later, Mkhitaryan drew the sides level, after a wonderful passing move by the home side, eventually found Mkhitaryan through on goal and he finessed it into the bottom corner.

Wolfsburg VS Dortmund 0-0

A tight affair which saw the return of Marco Reus since his 10 week injury stint on the sidelines.

He had a great game personally, striking the post twice and made several key passes that were nearly converted into goals.

But in the end the home side were able to completely shut down my offensive ability and it was a rather disappointing all round team performance.

Managers overview

Two wins and two draws is not the sort of form that I want or expect, especially from four teams that I believe we should be beating with ease. There was not a single team that my side should have struggled against, yet we dropped two wins.

However, at the end of the day we are still unbeaten and remain in a strong position.

@Jack A truly great footballer and it was great to have him in my side and I hope 2-3 years down the line when he wants to become a coach, he will join my side :)

@Ninja Sorry when he finally retires at the end of the season, I will defo mention his great beard :)
You're edging away from Bayern there, slowly but surely - also great work in the Champions League! :)
Unbeaten in the league is great but having Alonso retire :( Good job mate
@Jack Slowly but surely edging away my friend! They are struggling with fatigue at the moment so I am hoping they hit a rough patch so I can surge ahead!

@LFC Great form so far I am very pleased and thanks a lot pal!

I straightened my tie and slicked back my hair, I wasn't nervous. I rarely got nervous in the first place, but now I have won a Champions League? Games seem more and more casual, unless of course they are finals or title deciders.

Today I would manage Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup, of course we were the heavy favourites to win it. Whoever the European side are, they are expected to win.

I suppose we just have the stronger leagues and therefore strongest continental tournament. We were playing 'Club de Fútbol Tigres de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León' which in my eyes is the dumbest name for a football club ever. Especially when they shorten it to Tigres UANL, but whatever, they were the best team in North America, we were the best team in Europe.

The tournament saw us get a visit to the famous 7* hotel of Abu Dahbi, the Emirates Palace, allowing my players pre-match luxuary like never before.

The buzz around the country and indeed the capital, was immense, they couldn't believe they will get to see the likes of Aubameyang and Marco Reus gracing their home soil.

Now onto the match.

The Tigres manager confided to me as we embraced before kick-off, that his side would need to hold out until half-time if they were going to have any chance to truly snatch this.

I admired his brutal honesty, but I wasn't to be complacent, who knows what can happen!

But my unbeaten Dortmund side were just far too strong for the Mexican champions.

After winning a corner by himself, Marco Reus curled a beautiful ball into the six yard box, a strong header by Mustafi saw Weigl attack the ball on the line and an attempted by one of the opposition defenders ricocheted off the back of an unaware Gignac and rebounded into the net. After just 90 seconds, we were ahead.

The floodgates opened then and the goals came thick and fast, next up was Reus who was able to twist and turn within the area and blasted it past the keeper at his near post. I suppressed a smile as I saw the disheartened faces on the opposing bench, I could tell they were out of their depth with the quality of my side.

Mkhitaryan scored the third of the game as he was able to meet a great ball from Fernandes for yet another assist as the Armenian was left with an empty net to tap into.

Pogba was able to grace the home fans with his dab, as he scored a curling rocket from 30 yards in the second half and Aubameyang headed home from a corner to make it five.

Then, as I always joked with the press, I am an unlucky man. Just as I was bringing Aubameyang off, the ball was running out of play meaning in a few seconds time he would be subbed off, my star man tripped over his markers leg and collapsed in a ball of agony, the medical staff would later inform me he would be out for a month.

Great, just great. Just what I wanted.

Aubameyang to miss the World Club Cup final

Yesterday Aubameyang was helped off the pitch during Dortmund's emphatic 5-0 semi-final win, in the World Club Cup against Mexican side Tigres.

Bean was visibly irritated by the injury as it appeared that he was on the verge of substituting the striker, before he ended up getting injured. The striker was accidentally tripped it appeared, by his man marker, as the ball was rolling harmlessly out of play.

There appeared to be no intent from the defender to trip Aubameyang, it in fact looked my like an unfortunate coming together.

The start striker, who is already being tipped as one of the potential players of the season, in Germany and Europe, also scored in the match.

Following the game our sources informed us that the striker was sent to a local hospital, but after an assessment in the changing rooms, he was not rushed to the hospital as he was not in need of important medical attention such as an operation as is the case with some sporting injuries.

On arrival to the hospital, he was seen by multiple doctors at the request of the football club, so they could gather multiple opinions from their own medical staff and several outside doctors and nurses.

The striker is certain to miss the final, the club has announced, but they also announced via a statement on their website that they "hope he is fit and well within four to five weeks and is able to play at latest six weeks time".

While injuries are obviously bad for anyone, especially a key player, Dortmund have had a lucky break in terms of the fact that, the winter break is just around the corner meaning he will only miss at most two games, including the final against Boca Juniors.

It is expected that Leigh Griffiths will continue his busier first season in Germany than he would have expected, as he is set to start in the final.
Aubameyang will be a huge miss! Hopefully Griffiths can replace him suitably :(
