Beitar Jerusalem FC UEFA Champions League Play-off

The less said about them the better. The whole world wants Salzburg to win :)

Marcel Schmid - We where always happy to be away first because we get to know what the opposition is all about at their ground. It was a good performance and we got what we wanted and we know now what is needed at home.

We have to understand what is at stake in this kind of game, so there will be rotations against LASK and we will see what goes on.
A tidy result in the first-leg. I can imagine going to a place like Beitar is difficult given the hostility and the reputation the fans and club carry. Onto the next game and then hopefully a pleasing result at home to get the job done.

Getting an away goal or two in these qualifiers is massive. There are many difficulties that are apparent when you head to these countries.

Red Bull Salzburg are into the CL group stage for just the 2nd time after their 4-0 aggregate win over Beitar Jeruzalem!

Marcel Schmid - It's a huge result for this club to be once again in the Champions League! This is also vital for the whole of Austria if we continue to progress in Europe, more clubs will get to experience this and the league will improve as a result.

The goal early on really shook them and we controlled it how we like to.
We are once again very excited for the draw and we are happy to take on anyone!

Transfer Round up

Peischl and Mensah were signed by the club.

Kovalenko on a free transfer was something that I couldn't miss out on. He hasn't progressed well but is a useful signing for us.
The opportunity to bring club legend Jonathan Soriano back was also a must. He can't move anymore, but still has good technicals.
Ortega was a must considering first choice left back Ulmer is getting on a bit, very cheap signing from Argentina who will definitely provide competition for that spot.

The stand out signing of the window

An unbelievable keeper for the price allowing veteran Walke to move on as he is past what we need now.

Finally, Partizan players are always good to aquire, maybe a loan will do his development good.
Pérez on loan from Atlético Madrid will provide cover after an exit which I hadn't planned for.

Once again, a lot of loans out because of youth team rules.

Alexander Walke has been here since 2010. At 37 we needed a replacement and found that, so we let him go back to his native country.

A huge profit on Ramalho and we already have younger centre backs at first team level.

Markovic only signed in January, but he didn’t perform and got angry still managed to make 100% profit.

Igor’s loan spell became permanent in the end, not at the level required for us.

Minamino just doesn’t fit into the system so a good fee from Galatasaray pays for Gümüş who we signed a year ago.

Håland wasn’t first choice for me and we made good money, Ljubicic wasn’t either but I didn’t expect him to leave so soon after signing. He would have been getting into the team more this season.

The biggest departure was Marin Pongracic to Juventus who paid his release clause. If I had noticed that earlier I think we could have got well over €20m for him, but good luck!

Last season we made a profit of €40.75m I expect that to be broken this season with the performances this team is putting in.
Firstly, well done on comfortably beating Beitar Jerusalem. That's a very good result. The group stage draw certainly gives you a great chance of progressing, given what you could have faced. You've been quite fortunate in that regard, but it's still a huge challenge for Marcel and the player, nonetheless. A large turnout of players, but a good amount of money recouped. I'm surprised to hear Markovic didn't necessarily work out, he's excellent for Max at Koln! Good use of the free market, bringing in some real talent for nothing, as well as some shrewd and savvy business, elsewhere.

Cheers :) It's the first time I have signed Markovic and was expecting him to do well, but he didn't want to stay past the summer so I made the decision to get some money in.

He will end up winning the Ballon d'or at Bayern now :(

Altach – It has been a while since we last played so I can always understand this result. As long as everyone puts in maximum effort and does the job that I set for them, I can look past what the final score is.

Brugge – The start we wanted in the group. The early goals that we are getting are a big thing for us because when we make loads of chances and just can’t find the net, we get a little restless.
This relaxes the team and we play better from there.

Mattersburg, Grödig and Hartberg – There are a lot of people saying that we have had an easy September, they can say what they want because I never overestimate games. We won each by one goal and that’s a credit to the opposition who gave us tough games. For example, in the cup every team is looking to beat us they find an extra gear in knockout competitions we have to be on it. And then a newly promoted team just before the CL midweek. Of course the players are looking forward to playing on the biggest stage, so I focus everyone.

Inter – We always believe in ourselves especially at home, but they showed their quality today and they really step it up for the away support. All we can do is applaud how well they played and move on. We still have 12 points to win and we will go out to get them.
A solid month of results there. The loss to Inter is a shame, but there are plenty more points available to be won. This loss can be rectified.
A very tidy month indeed, the Inter result was always going to be a tough one but you'll pull yourself into the next round I reckon :P
Scott T and Jack - Home losses are always disappointing, but I believe we will have enough to make it through.

Wacker - We recovered well after the Inter defeat, it was important that we got back to winning straight away as now we have a couple off for international break.

Graz - It is another away game were we just don't do enough for the win. We know they are a strong side and we limited their chances but we should make the most of that.
A solid month. Good work
Crucial games in the CL tonight as we head into the halfway stage!

In Group G we have Porto and Inter on 4 points, but Porto lead on away goals after the 1-1 draw at the San Siro. Salzburg are on 3 points and Club Brugge 0.

Wins for Inter and Porto would put them 4 points clear and look good to progress. Kick-off is 20:00!
