2019-06-13 22:28#257527 BigMaguire : Some serious results! Doing bits in Salzburg, putting the Energy Drink Franchise team on the map!

That's the aim! Does anyone even drink Red Bull anymore? :/
Some great results. Your league form is superb and another historic result to take away against Bayern.

We keep on doing the unexpected

Marcel Schmid - We performed fantastically vs Wacker, a clean sheet is always a positive. We start this month of very positively!

We rotated against Mattersburg because we have the CL in 3 days! I think we were the better team but that means nothing we didn't get the goal we wanted and we will have to live with the draw.

Me and my staff have a lot of work to do before the midweek game, so we move on from the dropped points here.

The Final day of 2019/20 UEFA Champions League Group Stage

We are focusing our attention on Group H as 2013 winners Bayern München can be knocked out tonight if results don’t go their way!
It would be the first time they have gone out at this stage.

As things stand – Atlético Madrid will stay top whatever happens tonight on 12 points,
Bayern are 2nd on 8 points,
Red Bull Salzburg 8 points and
Viktoria Plzeň 0
Bayern are 2nd on Away Goals Scored vs Salzburg 0-0 at the Allianz and 1-1 at the Red Bull Arena Matchday 5.

Bayern are at home against Madrid, while Salzburg travel to the Plzeň.

Niko Kovač is the under-fire boss despite winning the domestic double with Bayern last season. The underwhelming exit against Liverpool shadowed the season along with reports of unhappiness in the dressing room.
If it doesn’t go his way tonight, he could well be on the way out!

Red Bull Salzburg are competing in the Champions League for the first time under this ownership and under the guidance of their young manager Marcel Schmid they are in contention to reach the knockout stages of Europe’s prestigious competition for the first time in the club's history!
A fantastic opportunity for Salzburg to progress against all the odds.
Fantastic progress from such a young club. Well done!

Hi, Darren Fletcher here today alongside Martin Keown for this exciting final day in group H!

The teams are ready to kick off

6'
Atlético lead in Munich! It’s Rodri with the goal, he found space on the edge of the area and tucked it into the bottom right corner. Bayern need a reaction!

24'
2-0 Madrid. Bayern don’t look up for the fight. They lost possession on the edge of the Madrid box and then the counterattack is just too quick for them and Koke finds himself 2 0n 1 vs Neuer and just slides it past him.

This really isn't the start Bayern need, but luckily for them Salzburg haven't managed to breakthrough as yet!

PENALTY!!!
The corner is whipped in from Atlético, Morata goes down and VAR is consulted. The replays clearly show Boateng grappling onto the Spanish International and the referee doesn’t take long to make the decision!

29'
Morata smashes the ball in, Bayern are being humbled in their own back yard. Kovač looks absolutely spellbound!
Martin Keown - “It’s what Madrid deserve. Bayern look toothless and if they aren’t careful this could get embarrassing!”
It’s still 0-0 in the other game, so Bayern have some hope.

We are pushing towards half time now, Bayern have settled slightly, but Salzburg are continuing to work their way towards goal, Ulmer crosses one into the box….

40'
Szoboszlai with a leaping header puts the Austrians ahead in this one and as it stands they are knocking Bayern out of the Champions League!

43'
Weigl gets a goal back for Bayern, completely undeserved, but an absolute rocket into the top corner.

HT

Martin Keown - “Bayern are shell-shocked. They will go in at halftime and see the other result whishing they came out much better than they have, because it’s still close elsewhere.”
HT scores Bayern 1-3 Atlético and Viktoria Plzeň 0-1 Salzburg
2nd Half

51'
Ludewig for Salzburg and surely this will be too much for Plzeň now!
Szoboszlai with the corner which is headed away to the edge of the area. Ludewig had space and just smashed it towards goal, the keeper looks to have helped him out a little there :)

56'
Well it didn’t take them long to put this game to bed. Ludewig is provider this time, Okugawa is on the end of it. Surely that seals Bayern’s fate.

61'
3 goals in 10 minutes for Salzburg 4-0 now and Okugawa gets his brace! Szoboszlai with a no look pass just outside the area and then a first-time finish into the top right, no chance for the keeper!!!
62'
4-1 Atlético, it goes from bad to worse for Bayern. A wild shot from Saúl deflects off the defender and that is it.

Martin Keown – “Bayern started to get some good passing going, but that will have killed them! It’s all over for the German giants.”

63'
It’s all been happening in this second half. Viktoria Plzeň pull one back. Salzburg players just stood off and he had time to get into the area and put the ball in the back off the net.

The Bayern bench can only watch as their team look to be sliding out of the competition. They will be well aware of the score elsewhere, it will be interesting to hear what the fans think at full time...

FT

Sorry about splitting it guys but it wasn't letting me do it all together :)
It’s all over for the 2019/20 Group Stage. Bayern have been knocked out in the group stages for the first time! Surely that signals the end for Niko Kovač!

Martin Keown – “The players approached that game like a preseason friendly, no fight and the manager is going to pay for that!

Bayern spent big in the summer and it hasn’t worked out as they’d hoped.

In other news Red Bull Salzburg make it through to the knockout stage, what a fantastic achievement!

Martin Keown – “They play good football and whoever draws them next round it won’t be easy, they beat Atlético and remained unbeaten against Bayern. Certainly no pushovers, well done to them!”

Marcel Schmid - What a fantastic result! We made it through arguably the toughest group knocking Bayern out along the way.
I think we have to thank Atlético for taking the final game seriously, they have done the competition proud. But we had to do our job and we remained patient throughout to do so.

I would like to thank the fans who traveled here to support us we are very grateful for what you gave us tonight.
Everyone at the club is excited to see who we get in the next round and we will play the same way to prove we are worthy.

Well done bro! You could win it!

Of course we can :)
Excellent work and against all the odds you progress. The future is bright under Schmid!

4 days after the historic Champions League night we went away to Ried

Marcel Schmid - It's a good way to finish before the mid-season break. We were definitely up for this even after the fantastic game in the week and we showed that. We now have a little time to rest and then friendlies to get us back into the grove of things.
