Plymouth Argyle FC: The Pilgrimage To The Premier League

I have returned!!! After taking taking two years off of FM I have returned to present to you this awesome story about Plymouth Argyle. So you must be like holy crap Mike is back. Well I got burnt out of FM back in 17 and got 18 but never played it, so I took a year off and have returned for 2020. If you remember I would post all the time. This time the updates will occur but not as many as once before. I am looking to keep this as my only FM story.

So why Plymouth??? Well other than their colors and name they have an interesting history, plus have never made it to the top since forming in 1886. The city of Plymouth is the largest in England never to have hosted top-flight football. They are the most southerly and westerly League club in England. That is another reason why I picked them to be my story. For all you in this area of England I hope you enjoy!!!!!!!

Despite winning their final match of the season 3-2 against Scunthorpe United, it was not enough to stay up as both clubs ended up being relegated.

The sacking came as the Pilgrims had not won any of their last eight games, and have picked up only two points in that time. with that it was Adam's time to leave especially after being with the club since 2015.

Under his tenure the clubs only major accomplishment was the promotion to League One, this was only a season ago.

A club statement said they had "agreed by mutual consent that Derek Adams be relieved of his duties", but some in Adams' camp do not believe this was the case.

An unnamed source close to Adams was quoted in saying, "The board was trying to get rid of as soon as possible, there is no way Derek would have mutually terminated his contract a few days before the final match of the season."

Adams refused to speak to the media after the game at Accrington Stanley, which left Argyle 21st in League One.

Assistant manager Paul Wotton has also been relieved of his duties.

First team coach Kevin Nancekivell took charge as the Pilgrims won their final match of the season. He was let go hours after the final whistle and will not be considered a candidate for the job.

With it now being the off-season the first thing is to hire a new manager. At this time it is too early to sy who are the top candidates but sources show they (Plymouth's Board) want someone who can get the club to where they were after the 2017/18 season and beyond.

Opportunity arises for someone

Stanley certainly put the boot in that day. Plymouth have the foundations in place and look to be an attractive project, in spite of their recent relegation.

Former Manchester United Midfielder Michael Carrick has been announced as the new manager for recently relegated Plymouth Argyle. Carrick will take over the club who was just relegated a year after being promoted to League One.

The official announcement came from the clubs social media accounts earlier this morning. Sources say that Carrick agreed to become the newest manager last evening after dinner with Chairman Simon Hallett.

37-year-old Carrick had earlier expressed his interest in pursuing management. Since retirement the England International was a coach for Manchester's first team.

The former United captain is reported to be on 33,000 per week, and has been given a contract until the end of the season, with chairman Simon Hallett confirming that Carrick may be handed a new contract in the midst of the season if the move works out.

"I am excited to take this job", said Carrick, later he stated that, "This is a club with tremendous upside, last season was a shame and a lot went wrong but I want to right the wrongs."

This will be the first managerial position for Carrick. At such a young age this is the perfect stepping stone for his career. Could he become a manager for his former United??? We will see.
