Preseason 2021/2022

A dominating performance in our first 4 matches until a thrilled 3-2 defeat to Benfica away.

Divock Origi

Origi suffered a sprained ankle in our match against RB Salzburg on the 18th of July. He is expected to return to training in time for our Bundesliga opening match. Uth will likely start in his place.

Fabrice Hartmann

Hartmann also suffered a sprained ankle. Unfortunately, his was in our last friendly match against SLB. He will be out most of the month. Cornet will start in his place.

Squad Announced

Not included in the graphic above: Milan Miletic will be our 3rd goalkeeper while also playing for Schalke II and Nicolas Griguol will be with the squad for most of the month until Origi returns to full strength before we look for a loan.

Should be a rather simple start to the season, but we need to overcome the injuries.

AUGUST 2021

  • We were dominate against Lichtenberg behind 5 goals from Armine Herit and 3 assists from Birger Meling in his competitive debut...
  • We outclassed RB Leipzig for 90 minutes, with a lone goal from 20-year old Nicolas Griguol in the 59th minute after coming on for Origi.
  • A bore draw with Hannover but were the better side throughout the match.
  • Overall, we cannot complain - we deserved 3 points against Hannover but have to settle for 4 in the month.

Daniel Caligiuri

The veteran right back filled in magnificently for the injured Lukas Klostermann. Appearing in all 3 matches with an average rating of 7,80. He averaged 55 passes per 90 minutes at an impression 85% accuracy. He also added 6 tackles and 5 headers.

We head into the month of September with a clean bill of health.

Surprising to see FC Bayern lose already!

Some big moves in the transfer market to report:
Dortmund sell Jadon Sancho to Arsenal for €85M.
FC Bayern sign Goncalo Guedes from Valencia for €84M.
Bayer 04 sell Kai Havertz to Liverpool for €73M.
FC Bayern sell Anthony Martial to Chelsea for €67M.
Dortmund sell Felix Passlack to Barcelona for €57M.
Dortmund sign Exequiel Palacios from Lazio for €46.5M.
Dortmund sign Renato Sanches from SV Werder for €41M.
RB Leipzig sign Gian-Luca Itter from Wolfsburg for €40.5M.
Bayer 04 sell Panagiotis Retsos to Chelsea for €32.5M.
Hertha BSC sell Valentino Lazaro to AS Monaco for €30M.

We get what is probably the toughest group in the Europa League but it should be a lot of fun this way! Exciting to see Elsner get to play against the side that he played for in his early career - OGC Nice.

The month starts with an international break but gets quite hectic with 6 matches in 19 days.
Like the look of this so far! Good work and hopefully despite the tough group you can get through to the next round. Origi likes a bit of European football ;)

Thank you - for sure looking forward to see if Origi can find some European magic!

SEPTEMBER 2021

  • A convincing 2-0 win against Stuttgart behind goals from Carlos Salcedo (73') and Maxwel Cornet (38').
  • We matched Chelsea throughout the match but failed to get an equalizer after Alvaro Morata scored in the 39th minute on a wild scramble off a corner kick. No complaints with how we played though.
  • SV Werder continues to play really well, beating us with a goal in the 84th minute. One of the few matches where we were outplayed.
  • We get things back on track with a 2-0 victory against Augsburg behind a brace from Nabil Bentaleb (2', 12').
  • Our away struggles continue allowing an equalizer in the 84' minute after goals from Nicolas Griguol (9') and Cornet (21'). We cannot complain too much as we completely rotated the squad today.
  • We absolutely dominate OGC Nice with a 4-0 victory - goals from Fabrice Hartmann (pen 12'), Salcedo (15'), Divock Origi (58'), and Mark Uth (68'). Origi had to leave the match with a shoulder injury.

Carlos Salcedo

For the second straight month a defender is our Player of the Month. Salcedo was brillant defensively and managed to score two goals, both off of corner kicks. In 4 matches, he had 11 key headers and finished the month with an average rating of 7,90.

Divock Origi

Origi damaged his shoulder during the match with OGC Nice. He is expected to miss up to 3 weeks.

SV Werder is off to an incredibly hot start. It looks to be another incredibly competitive season in the Bundesliga.

Our results are basically what we expected, surprisingly Brondy IF beat OGC Nice away. It is going to be hardy for Nice to recover, as long as we take care of our business we should be able to get through.

Another international break and another six matches - thankfully so far we have been able to manage a nice squad rotation.
A decent start and a crucial drubbing of Nice.

Good solid start to the season, but Anthony Martial to Chelsea and Sancho to Arsenal...……. ewwwww :)

OCTOBER 2021

  • We absolutely controlled the match against M'Gladbach but could not find the net until late. Hartmann was subbed on in the 69th minute and assisted on two goals (81', 90+2') from Girguol who was subbed on in the 62nd minute.
  • Our first away win of the season as Antonio Marin scores a beauty in the 31st minute.
  • Brondby IF had no chance, we came to play and dominated the match but our finishing let us down. We only scored 1 goal - Bentaleb in the 40th minute. Our other two goals were own goals.
  • A hangover from European football as Hoffenheim steals one on another messy goal from a corner.
  • We play a heavily rotated squad against Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal, the match deserved to go to penalties but we came out short - losing 5-4 in the shootout. A disappointing early exit.
  • Our scoring woes continue against Frankfurt, it was a fairly even match. The fourth straight clean sheet for Nubel. (Fahrmann conceded to Hoffenheim)

Carlos Salcedo

Salcedo continues to play like one of the best defenders in the world. He is dominating on the ground and in the air with 8 key headers and 14 interceptions over 5 matches this month.

Sebastien Rudy
Rudy pulled a hamstring in training on the 23rd of October. He is expected to return in early November after missing our last 3 matches.

A tough month for us as we slide from 2nd to 5th in the table. Florian Kohfeldt has his SV Werder side continuing to play some very good football as they continue to defy expectations (predicated 10th). Bayern is still struggling to play to their lofty expectations.

OGC Nice is top of the table in Ligue 1 but cannot get a point in the first round of our Group. We have a very good chance to get through the group if we can find some goals.

A difficult month ahead but we can secure knockout football in the Europa League with some favorable results. Thankfully this month's schedule offers a little more balance than the last two, at least in regards to congestion.
You're looking very solid defensively - helped by the performances of Salcedo - but just need that spark going forward.

NOVEMBER 2021

  • An unflattering 1-0 victory against Brondby IF behind Maxwel Cornet's goal in the 78th minute, assisted by Weston McKennie.
  • Another continental hangover as we start out completely sluggish against Hertha. They score in the 31st minute but Maxwel Cornet scores again - this time in the 91st minute, assisted by Mahmoud Dahoud!
  • Unfortunately a very even match against FC Koln, finally we get on the board with a goal in the 72nd minute from Christopher Nkunku, assisted by Baba Rahman.
  • With a decent squad rotation we went toe to toe with Chelsea, they scored just before the break on a goal by Anthony Martial. Baba Rahman scores his first goal of the season against his former team in the 86th minute to get us a much deserved draw.
  • A brutal draw against Leverkusen, we outshot them 22 to 5 but were terribly inaccurate (again).

Felix Uduokhai

It's almost impossible to pick a player of the month when the team is this unflattering but Felix Uduokhai has been tremendously consistent over the season and this month as well. Uduokhai had an impressive 26 headers won in 4 matches this month to go along with 12 interceptions while completing 85% of his passes.

Daniel Caligiuri

Caligiuri suffered torn ankle ligaments on the 18th of November and is expected to miss up to 3 months. Best case scenario he will return to action in February. A difficult blow for us, as he has been playing outstanding with an average rating of 7.32.

Fabrice Hartmann

Hartmann got injured during training on the 26th of November. He has a pulled calf muscle and will miss the the next 1 to 2 weeks of action with a mid-December return likely.

Alexander Nubel

Nubel fractured a finger in training on the 2nd of November and missed the first two weeks of the month. He is now healthy after missing two matches this month.

SV Werder finally get beat and Hoffenheim are there to take the top of the table but Dortmund and FC Bayern are getting hot. We have struggled lately and are probably fortunate to be sitting 6th in the table with our toughest month ahead of us.

We are through with Chelsea in what is ultimately not that difficult of a group with OGC Nice completely bombing out.

A big month for us, if our attack does not start progressing we will struggle to get results against Dortmund and Bayern. Luckily we have them both at home where we have played very well.
Despite only winning one, you didn't lose any and have progressed in the Europa League. The need for goals is clear and hopefully you will start to be a bit more composed in front of goal this coming month with the two big tests in there!

I cannot believe how little I have gotten from Origi to this point!

For sure pleasantly surprised with how well we are playing defensively, everyone is doing their part but Salcedo has been menacing the opponents attack consistently every match.
2020-04-26 07:48#269143 Eoin97 : Good solid start to the season, but Anthony Martial to Chelsea and Sancho to Arsenal...……. ewwwww :)

I'm not complaining :)
Well done on progressing in Europe. Positives are that you aren't losing, you're just not winning either! :P
