A lot of work to do!

September 2022

  • We outplayed Lille for most of the match but were fortunate to get an equalizer from Jean-Paul Boetius in the 81st minute, assisted by Blaise Matuidi.
  • EA Guingamp thrashed us through the match. Kristoffer Olsson scored in the 89th minute to make it look not as bad on the scoreboard.
  • Dijon got an early goal but we scored just before the half on a goal from Myziane Maolida. Unfortunately we were wasteful through the final 45 and they got a goal from man of the match Nacho Gill in the 71st minute. We outshot them 24-6...a painful loss today.

An absolutely dreadful month!

Jean-Paul Boetius

Boetius was the lone bright spot this month, he could have been given the award last month as well. He scored the late equalizer against Lille and made a number of key passes against EA Guingamp.

We finish the month with a clean bill of health heading into October.

Not many surprises at the top but shocking to see OGC Nice playing so poorly!

September should have brought us some more points. October is looking brutal, crazy congestion due to the upcoming World Cup but our first three matches are not fair!!
Not an ideal trio of results, especially when you look at how Guingamp have started. Hopefully Elsner and his team can improve during a hectic October.
Mixed results for sure. With the World Cup coming in the winter, now is a good opportunity to put your objectives into stone with a good run of results!
A good time to pick up as many points as possible with a congested month, and then re-evaluate where you are at the end of October as players head to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
An unfortunate run of games there, not good with such a big month coming up!

October 2022

  • A nice result against OM, Boetius scored again - assisted by Grandsir. We outplayed them for most of the match.
  • We got absolutely demolished by Lyon as Thorgon Hazard was a nightmare for us all evening, he finished with 2 goals and an assist.
  • A respectable showing against PSG but Nebil Fekir scored in the 26th minute.
  • FC Metz scored in the 2nd minute and we were left chasing the match the rest of the way. We finally got an equalizer in the 84th minute from Grandsir, assisted by Boetius.
  • A tough result at home against Angers SCO, three points was a must and we were lucky to leave with a point. Matuidi scored our lone goal in the 86th minute, assisted by Cabella.
  • We had AS Monaco on the ropes after scoring just before the half, Stetina scored a beautiful volley assisted by Cabella. However, after the break it was all AS Monaco but even then we could have escaped with a point before letting up two goals in the final 5 minutes.
  • Just when we thought this month could not get any worse...somehow we lose in penalties to RC Lens in the Coupe de la Ligue Third Round.
  • Finally we show signs of life against Elsner's youth squad, as we completely dominate OGC Nice 2-0 and it was not even that close. Goals by Stetina and Cabella.

Another disaster of a month! The result against OGC Nice give us hope but they have been poor as well. The World Cup will give us some much needed time to train.

Lukas Stetina

Stetina has been getting banged up with a bunch of nagging injuries and only played 3 matches this month. However, he made the most of them with 2 goals - matching his total over the last 5 seasons. He ended the month with a 7.5 match rating.

Somehow we made it through the month with a clean bill of health.

Monaco and PSG are threatening to run a way with the league but Lyon is not far behind. We have a lot of work to do to get back to one of the European Places. We have to take care of the bottom half of the table going forward.

International Break for World Cup 2022

Looks like your squad needs some thinking going on, hope the pause will help you mate!
Another really, really rough month there. That is arguably relegation form and the squad will need a rethink by the time January comes calling I think!
Geez not in good form and my Toulouse boys are doing well... this is backwards land
There were some difficult games in that run but overall there's plenty of reason for concern. An ageing squad will take time to sort out so the short-term may have to be sacrificed for long-term success.

Blaise Matuidi has suffered a hip injury during training on November 28th. He is expected to miss 3 months. Matuidi has been the one consistent performer for Luka Elsner this season, in which Matuidi has seen a resurgence in ability after fading away at Juventus.

ASSE draw rivals OL in the Ninth Round of the Coupe de France. OL have won 7 of the last 9 matches between the two clubs, with 2 draws.
The break appears to have come at the right time, as it turns out! Matuidi will be a big miss but hopefully ASSE will rally to fight back!
That's a very tough draw!
