Saturday 24th January 2015 – Manchester City v Everton (FA Cup 4th Round)

MCFC Starting XI – Forster, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy; Nasri, De Rossi, Milner, Bale; Blanco; Cavani SUBS – Hart, Zabaleta, Nastasic, Toure, Nem, Silva, Aguero

Everton Starting XI – Howard, Coleman, Heitinga, Jagielka, Celustka; Mirallas, Parker, Gibson, Naismith; Pienaar; Jelavic SUBS – Mucha, Hibbert, Brayford, Barkley, Vellios, Distin, Duffy

A brilliant performance from City sees them cruise into the 5th Round. A stunning performance from Samir Nasri saw him walk away with the man of the match award, with two assists and to add to his day he curled in a free kick from 25 yards just before half time. There was also a strong performance from 18 year old attacking midfielder Blanco who played like he was a regular for City, and also contributed with two assists. A downside for City will be that Cavani picked up a thigh strain and will miss the next 2-3 weeks. In the 5th Round City will face a very tough trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

Final Score – Manchester City 4 (Kompany 16, Cavani 22, Lescott 30, Nasri 40) Everton 1 (Jelavic 68)

MOTM – Samir Nasri

Attendance – 42,975

Manchester City Make Shock Move

Manchester City flexed their transfer powers by spending £38.5m on Luis Suarez, the leading goal scorer of their title chasing rivals Liverpool. City have been on the look out for a new striker since Lukas Podolski ended his loan spell but not many expected them to do this.

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj595/MCFCDAP/suarez_zps0a520bd2.jpg

The sale of Luis Suarez will disappoint Liverpool fans across the world as it will surely dent their title hopes, while also strengthening City’s title bid. City had made no secret of chasing Suarez, but Liverpool had held off all interest and we’re hoping to keep hold of their star man to possibly bring them there first Premier League title, but it seems every player has their price and City matched Liverpool’s estimation and Suarez is now a City player, and he will wear shirt number 20.

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj595/MCFCDAP/SuarezSigning_zpsd12bc5fe.png

Manager Georgi Kinkladze was delighted and hoped the signing would give them a massive boost in the battle to retain their title, “We needed another striker and we’ve got one, and we’ve got the man who can make a difference to any game. Luis didn’t have the best reputation in his early career but has since shown he is a threat to all defences and he will continue to do that for us and hopefully give us that extra push towards the title. He obviously has the ability to do it on the big stage after scoring the winner in last years World Cup final so we expect the same here, and hopefully he can renew his great partnership with Edinson (Cavani).”

Suarez has been embroiled in controversy since joining Liverpool, with constant complaints about his diving and of course the racism row with Manchester United’s Patrice Evra, which he served an 8 game ban for. City fans won’t mind him winding up their rivals and will hope he brings that passion to the Manchester derby.

Tuesday 27th January 2015 – Manchester City v Newcastle United (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Ramon; Zurak, Barry, Toure, Nem; Aguero; Suarez SUBS – Forster, Varane, Clichy, Milner, Bale, Nasri, de Jong

Newcastle Starting XI – Krul, Toure, Dawson, S Taylor, Santon; Lennon, Anderson, Cabaye, Gutierrez; Ba, Cisse SUBS – Sifakis, R Taylor, Djourou, Obertan, Bendtner, Streete, Good

Aguero set the tone after only 32 seconds when he gave City the lead, the lead was then doubled by Zurak and City cruised home from there. Newcastle rarely threatened the City goal and City took a valuable three points. Suarez had a relatively quiet debut but will be happy to pull on a City shirt for the first time and see him team win 2-0.

Final Score – Manchester City 2 (Aguero 1, Zurak 18) Newcastle United 0

MOTM – Yohan Cabaye

Attendance – 47,405

Saturday 31st January 2015 – Manchester City v Stoke City (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Ramon; Zurak, De Rossi, Milner, Nem; Nasri; Suarez SUBS – Forster, Zabaleta, Nastasic, Toure, Bale, Silva, Aguero

Stoke Starting XI – Begovic, Wilkinson, Salata, Shawcross, Huth; Whitehead, N’Zonzi, Palacios, Sinclair; Crouch, Boyd SUBS – Turnbull, Close, Jones, Noble, Borven, Cameron, Caldwell

City can be very disappointed with today’s performance and the result. The team had control of the game but never really created a telling opportunity and in the last ten minutes the game just faded away and City will have to settle for a point.

Final Score – Manchester City 0 Stoke City 0

MOTM – Ryan Shawcross

Attendance – 47,405

Manager’s January Review

A very busy month all round for the Club and we feel a little disappointed to have dropped 4 points and slowly seeing United move further away at the top of the table. We played 5 league games, winning 3 and drawing 2 and although we didn’t lose a game, the draw at home to Stoke definitely feels like a defeat.

In the Cup’s we made my first ever domestic Cup final as we beat Notts Forest over two legs to make it to the Capital One Cup Final where we will play United again for a chance of winning the first silverware of the season. In the FA Cup we cruised through the 3rd round at home to Bristol City and then easily beat Everton to make it through to the 5th round where we will face a trip to Stamford Bridge.

My player of the month goes to captain Vincent Kompany. I may seem biased towards him with this award but when I get to the end of the month I always find it hard to find someone who has played better than Vincent, his leadership is key to the team and not only does he contribute at the back but he chips in with a few goals as well.

Transfer Window/Deadline Day

A very quiet transfer window compared to some of the ones of the past, has seen very little money spent and few players changing Clubs. The biggest deal of the window was Luis Suarez’s move to Manchester City from Liverpool for £38.5m, and Liverpool replaced him by spending £7m on Theo Walcott from Arsenal.

Tuesday 3rd February 2015 – Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Zabaleta, Varane, Nastasic, Clichy; Nasri, De Rossi, Toure, Bale; Silva; Aguero SUBS – Forster, Richards, Kompany, Barry, Zurak, Marcio Roberto, Suarez

Wolves Starting XI – Hennessey, Stearman, Johnson, Berra, Murphy; Chipclu, Henry, Karacan, Sako; Ward, Amrabat SUBS – Frei, Foley, Shinnie, Abdellaoue, Batth, Odoi, Schonbachler

City made hard work of Wolves today, but came away with the three points thanks to a brilliant performance from David Silva. Silva has struggled all season with little knocks and injuries but he has finally produced the goods at a good time in the season. The game could have been a lot more comfortable but Sergio Aguero missed a penalty in the first half to add to his terrible day.

Final Score – Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 (Abdellaoue 69) Manchester City 2 (Nastasic 30, Silva 58)

MOTM – David Silva

Attendance – 28,150

Saturday 7th February 2015 – Southampton v Manchester City (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Kompany, Nastasic, Ramon; Nasri, Barry, Milner, Nem; Aguero; Suarez SUBS – Forster, Zabaleta, Varane, Toure, Bale, Silva, Marcio Roberto

Soton Starting XI – Heaton, Taylor, Davies, Wilson, Ziegler; Davis, Svensson, Schneiderlin, Ramirez; Toivonen, Rodriguez SUBS – Stech, Naughton, Ward-Prowse, Benteke, Kalas, Bengtsson, Lambert

City can wave goodbye to their Premier League title today, after once again they fail to break down a side and the game ends 0-0. Southampton had Schneiderlin sent off in the 90th minute but City were unable to find the breakthrough in injury time.

Final Score – Southampton 0 Manchester City 0

MOTM – Vincent Kompany

Attendance – 32,689

Saturday 14th February 2015 – Chelsea v Manchester City (FA Cup 5th Round)

MCFC Starting XI – Forster, Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Ramon; Nasri, Barry, Toure, Nem; Aguero; Cavani SUBS – Hart, Nastasic, Richards, Milner, Bale, Silva, Junior

Chelsea Starting XI – Courtois, David Luiz, Terry, Omeruo, Stubberfield; Mikel, Ramsey; Moses, Oscar, Hazard, Jovetic SUBS – Cech, Sturridge, Ramires, Moreno, Mata, Ben Arfa, Chalobah

A really good Cup tie at Stamford Bridge today as City and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw and will meet again at the Etihad Stadium. City took the lead only for Chelsea to peg them back, and both teams created chances to win it, with Chelsea finding the net through Mata but it being disallowed for off-side, and in the last minute of injury time David Silva curled a shot that hit the inside of the post and was cleared by the Chelsea defence. Zabaleta was injured during the game and will miss the next week and is likely to miss the Capital One Cup Final. In the 6th Round, City or Chelsea will play Burnley or Hull at home.

Final Score – Chelsea 1 (Jovetic 28) Manchester City 1 (Nem 13)

MOTM – Vincent Kompany

Attendance – 41,924

Forest Starting XI – Camp, Caddis, Williamson, Chester, Tierney; Guedioura, Cohen, Davis, Pederson, Adam; Cox SUBS – fon Williams, Harding, Lascelles, McFadden, Belle, Halford, McShane

City cruised to an easy victory here today, despite resting quite a lot of first team players before the Capital One Cup Final on Sunday. City handed a debut to 16 year old right back Grant Madden and he turned in a solid performance. Luis Suarez also scored his first goal since his £38.5m move from Liverpool in January.

Final Score – Manchester City 2 (Suarez 53, Silva 65) Nottingham Forest 0

MOTM – Joleon Lescott

Attendance – 46,779

Sunday 22nd February 2015 – Manchester United v Manchester City (Capital One Cup Final)

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj595/MCFCDAP/CapOnePreview_zpsf4381f23.png

Wembley awaits one of the biggest Capital One Cup Finals in recent times, as the top team sides in England come head to head for the trophy. The current Premier League Champions Manchester City face the Champions League Champions Manchester United for the first trophy of the season.

In Georgi Kinkladze’s first domestic Cup final he only has one injury worry in the squad as Pablo Zabaleta will be missing after picking up a knock against Chelsea last week. Obviously Luis Suarez is unable to play after playing for Liverpool earlier in the season.

Manchester United come into the game with only Antonio Valencia missing through injury and Darren Fletcher is suspended for the big clash at Wembley. Wayne Rooney comes into the game on fire after scoring 11 goals in his last 5 games, including 5 against Norwich 2 weeks ago, he has also scored in every game for United since the 10th January.

MCFC Subs – Hart, Richards, Varane, Milner, Bale, Silva, de Jong

MUFC Subs – Lindegaard, Song, Bande, Welbeck, Evans, Coentrao, Eriksen

First Half

United completely dominated the possession in the first half but failed to create as many chances as City did. United did manage to take the lead after 27 minutes, when Nani tormented Nem on the wing and whipped a cross into a zone where Gael Clichy had no option but to try and do something with it and headed it into his own goal. City bounced back from the disappointment and 5 minutes before half time an Aguero free kick was met by Vincent Kompany who brought the scores level at half time.

Second Half

The second half started with both teams keeping possession and not much happening going forward, but the big decision of the game came in the 51st minute when Javi Martinez brought down Yaya Toure in the centre circle, and having already been booked 2 minutes before the referee decided to produce a second yellow and United were down to 10 men. City took a while to take advantage of the extra man, but with 10 minutes to go Chris Smalling left a back pass very short, Bale pounced but De Gea kept him out, only for the ball to fall for Cavani who smashed the ball home to give City the decisive goal and bring the Capital One Cup to the Etihad Stadium.
