Tuesday 11th November 2014 – Manchester City v Manchester United (Premier League)

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj595/MCFCDAP/CityUnited_zps6267c0ca.png

The first Manchester Derby of the season is upon us, with Champions Manchester City taking on current leaders Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. This is the first time the sides have met since last season’s Champions League Final that United won 1-0, and their first league meeting since United hammered City 5-1, four days after City were crowned Champions. The match will also be the final Premier League Derby to be played at the Etihad Stadium, as City will be moving to the Al Mubarak Arena next season.

City come into the game with only one injury to Pablo Zabaleta, and on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Although previous to that, City had been in unbelievable form, scoring 19 goals in two games, including a Premier League record 12-2 victory over Aston Villa.

United have Fabio Coentrao missing, and Kagawa is away with the Japan under 23’s but other than that they are at full strength, with a few players likely to make their Manchester Derby debut. Wayne Rooney leads United’s goal scoring charts again with 9 and his form has led to United winning their last 3 league games and his hat-trick helped them defeat QPR 5-0 last time out. United are currently 9 points clear of City but it is still early in the season and there is plenty of time for that to change.

MCFC Subs – Forster, Ramon, Varane, Barry, Bale, Sneijder, Podolski

MUFC Subs – Lindegaard, Fabio, Song, Eriksen, Welbeck, Evans, Nkoulou

First Half

An even half which saw both teams have chances, with perhaps Wellington Nem having the best chance but De Gea was equal to it and kept the score at 0-0. Both teams look threatening going forward, but what could be telling is that both of City’s central defenders were booked so will have to be careful in the second half. City were also forced to make a substitution as Nem was injured and was replaced by Gareth Bale.

Half Time – Manchester City 0 Manchester United 0

Second Half

A big mistake from Phil Jones was the turning point of the second half. A cross from Micah Richards was perfect for Bale, until Jones brought him down and the pressure was then put on Sergio Aguero who stepped up and smashed the ball straight down the middle to give City a vital three points. United had a few chances but City’s captain Vincent Kompany played as well as he has all season and restricted United’s chances. City will take this and try to build on it and improve their league standing after a difficult start to the season. After the game it was revealed Wellington Nem will miss the next 2 weeks with a gashed leg.

Final Score – Manchester City 1 (Aguero 59(p)) Manchester United 0

Saturday 15th November 2014 – Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Varane, Nastasic, Clichy; Milner, De Rossi, Lampard, Bale; Sneijder; Cavani SUBS – Forster, Ramon, Kompany, Barry, Toure, Nasri, Aguero

Coming off the Derby win City were on a high and Spurs would have to play very well to get anything from the game, but there players didn’t start well a Milner turned in a Bale cross after just 42 seconds. Spurs made it 1-1 before half time and held firm until the 80th minute when Nastasic headed in a corner to give City the lead, City would score again as Adebayor brought down Nastasic from a corner and Aguero converted his second penalty in two games. Gael Clichy picked up his 5th yellow card of the season and will miss the next match.

Final Score – Tottenham Hotspur 1 (Adebayor 39) Manchester City 3 (Milner 1, Nastasic 80, Aguero 90+1(P))

Saturday 22nd November 2014 – Manchester City v Everton (Premier League)

City begin a mad spell of games where they played 4 games in 9 days, following Everton on Saturday, they played Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday, Sunderland in the League on Friday and then Wolves in the Capital One Cup Quarter Final on the Monday. City are also facing an Everton side without a manager as David Moyes left for Athletic Bilbao earlier in the week.

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Varane, Nastasic, Ramon; Nasri, De Rossi, Lampard, Bale; Sneijder; Cavani SUBS – Forster, Zabaleta, Kompany, Toure, Milner, Aguero, de Jong

Everton Starting XI – Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Heitinga, Celustka; Colback, Sidwell, Gibson; Mirallas, Pienaar; Jelavic SUBS – Mucha, Distin, Brayford, Naismith, Zaha, Duffy, Hibbert

A very one-sided game at the Etihad today, as City ran away with it and put four past an Everton side lacking leadership from the sideline. Samir Nasri was City’s star man as he completely ran the game from the right side of midfield and also scored a brilliant solo effort.

Final Score – Manchester City 4 (Cavani 9, Nasri 20, Bale 40, Varane 72) Everton 1 (Jelavic 41)

MOTM – Samir Nasri

Attendance – 43,708
Great couple of wins there mate :)

Tuesday 25th November 2014 – Bayer Leverkusen v Manchester City (Champions League Group H)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Zabaleta, Varane, Lescott, Clichy; Milner, Barry, Toure, Silva; Aguero; de Jong SUBS – Pantilimon, Richards, Kompany, Nasri, De Rossi, Sneijder, Cavani

Leverkusen Starting XI – Leno, Schwaab, omer Toprak, Wollscheid, Contento; Jenssen, Hegeler; Kiebling, Pamic, Schurrle; Cornelius SUBS – Rensing, Reinartz, Fernandes, Santander, Okore, Castro, dos Santos

A really good game in Germany was decided early in the first half when Aguero was brought down in the box, he then missed the penalty but scored from the rebound. Leverkusen tried to fight back but they couldn’t get through the City defense and its three points that guarantee City progress to the Knock-Out stages of this season’s Champions League as Group winners.

Final Score – Bayer Leverkusen 0 Manchester City 1 (Aguero 10)

MOTM – Raphael Varane

Attendance – 30,000

Friday 28th November 2014 – Sunderland v Manchester City (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy; Nasri, De Rossi, Toure, Bale; Aguero; Cavani SUBS – Forster, Ramon, Lescott, Lampard, Milner, Sneijder, Podolski

Sunderland Starting XI – Mignolet, Clyne, Hanley, O’Shea, Kilgallon; Diarra, Diakite; Dyer, Sessegnon, Johnson; Fletcher SUBS – Westwood, Rotan, Sviatchenko, Bridcutt, Larson, Eardley, Cuellar

City again took an early lead and held on. Sunderland didn’t quite threaten the same way as Leverkusen did in the previous game but City always looked like they had another gear. City will miss Daniele De Rossi from the next game after he picked up his 5th yellow of the season, City will also be without their captain Vincent Kompany for the next 2-3 weeks after he twisted his knee during the game.

Final Score – Sunderland 0 Manchester City 1 (Bale 16)

MOTM – Alou Diarra

Attendance – 48,143
Another couple of nice wins :) keep this up!
Great wins against United, Spurs, and Everton. The story looks amazing, keep up the good work! :D

Manager’s November Review

An unbelievable month, we played 6 Premier League games and we only lost 1 against Chelsea. The month also included a Premier League record as we beat Aston Villa 12-2, a Derby victory at the Etihad and some very strong performances that suggest we will make a good charge at retaining our Premier League title.

In the Champion’s League we won both games, first off we hammered Maribor 7-0 at home and then followed it up with a battling performance in Germany against Leverkusen. These victories mean we have wrapped up the group and for the first time have qualified for the Knock-Out Stages as Group winners.

My player of the month goes to Edinson Cavani. He deserves this for his performance against Villa where he scored 5, but he also scored 2 more in the month and has proven to be a valuable asset even when he isn’t scoring goals. He is the perfect man to lead the line in the Premier League and opposition defences aren’t sure how to keep him under control. A mention also goes to Matija Nastasic who once again won the Premier League’s Young Player of the Month award, and also came third in the Player of the Month award.

Monday 1st December 2014 – Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers (Capital One Cup Quarter Final)

MCFC Starting XI – Forster, Zabaleta, Varane, Lescott, Ramon; Zurak, Barry, Lampard, Nasri; Sneijder; Cavani SUBS – Hart, Richards, Nastasic, Milner, Nem, Aguero, Podolski

Wolves Starting XI – Frei, Odol, Johnson, Batth, Walsh; Schonbachler, Reo-Coker, Edwards, Hajrovic; Abdellaoue, Siguroarson SUBS – Hennessey, Stearman, Rogers, Pasche, Vetokele, Tank, Foley

Man City fought back from 2-0 down to take the game to extra time, but the extra 30 minutes couldn’t separate the sides so it went to penalties, and it was Wellington Nem’s penalty that sends City through to the Semi-Final’s of the Capital One Cup. In truth, City won’t believe this game had to go down to penalties because they completely dominated but it was a great comeback that kept them in the Cup and sees them through.

Final Score – Manchester City 2 (Nasri 80, Aguero 82) Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 (Siguroarson 30, 45+1) AET
Manchester City win 4-3 on penalties

MOTM – Bjorn Siguroarson

Attendance – 43,802

Saturday 6th December 2014 – Manchester City v West Bromwich Albion (Premier League)

Two draws have been made that involved City, in the FA Cup Third Round, City will face Bristol City at the Etihad Stadium, while in the Capital One Cup Semi-Final’s City will face Nottingham Forest, with the first leg being played at the City Ground before the return leg at the Etihad.

A big blow to the City squad has happened in the build up to today’s game, as Frank Lampard has been ruled out for 2 months with a dislocated shoulder.

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Zabaleta, Varane, Nastasic, Ramon; Zurak, Barry, Toure, Bale; Sneijder; Cavani SUBS – Forster, Lescott, Clichy, De Rossi, Nem, Nasri, Aguero

WBA Starting XI – Foster, Rangel, Olsson, Almeback, Ridgewell; Yacob, Mulumbu, Denilson; Morrison, Kadrii; Jong SUBS - Amos, Jakobsen, Donk, Stepanenko, di Santo, Cummings, Daniels

City seemed to take control of the game in the first 10 minutes and were 2-0 up, they went in at half time with the score the same and many thought the game was over. At the beginning of the second half, City’s right winder Zurak burst into the box and on contact with the West Brom player he fell over but the ref saw it as a dive and he was given a second yellow and sent off. West Brom had a way back into the game and Morrison scored with 3 minutes of Zurak’s red but City then found their composure and even managed to score a third goal to give them the three points. Bale was injured during the game and will miss the next 3 weeks.

Final Score – Manchester City 3 (Bale 5, Barry 8(p), Nem 56) West Bromwich Albion 1 (Morrison 50)

MOTM – Wellington Nem

Attendance – 47,405

Wednesday 10th December 2014 – Manchester City v Sporting Lisbon (Champions League Group H)

MCFC Starting XI – Pantilimon, Zabaleta, Varane, Lescott, Clichy; Milner, Barry, Sneijder, Nem; Silva; de Jong; SUBS – Hart, Richards, Nastasic, Nasri, De Rossi, Aguero, Cavani

Sporting Starting XI – Patricio, Soares, Juhasz, Rojo, Fabio Santos; Fernandes, Elias, Souza; Eduardo, Bruma; van Wolfswinkel SUBS – Boeck, Insua, Rajtoral, Andre Santos, Viola, Boulahrouz, Cossa

A good way for City to finish the group with another 3 points, and with Sporting already knowing they were through the game didn’t really have much of a competitive edge. City took the lead after 3 minutes and scored again just before half time, and although Sporting pulled one back late on they rarely threatened to equalise.

In the rest of the Champions League, a stunning 7-1 win for Dortmund against Barcelona sees Barcelona finish 3rd in their group and they are out of the Champions League. Chelsea were also eliminated after losing 2-1 to Sevilla. Last years winners Manchester United easily qualified from their group, as did Real Madrid, Bayern, Arsenal and Porto.

Final Score – Manchester City 2 (Silva 3, de Jong 45) Sporting Lisbon 1 (Bruma 77)

MOTM – Roland Juhasz

Attendance – 47,405

Sunday 14th December 2014 – Manchester City v Burnley (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Varane, Nastasic, Ramon; Nasri, De Rossi, Toure, Nem; Aguero; Cavani SUBS – Forster, Zabaleta, Lescott, Barry, Milner, Sneijder, de Jong

Burnley Starting XI – Grant, Trippier, Barnett, Hughes, Shackell; Albrighton, Marney, Ojala, Hosny, McCann, Austin SUBS – Jakovlevs, Dummigan, O’Neill, Stanislas, Ebanks-Blake, Wallace, Hoyte

An unbelievable game at the Etihad, as Burnley managed to hold firm for 90minutes and City were unable to score. Despite have over 20 efforts on goal, 65% of the possession, the scores remained 0-0 and City fans will leave wondering what has happened to the other two points.

Final Score – Manchester City 0 Burnley 0

MOTM – Leon Barnett

Attendance – 47,405

Champions League First Knock-Out Stage Draw

For the first time Manchester City enter the draw as group winners and have guaranteed they will avoid Real Madrid who they have faced in the two previous years at this stage. The toughest opponents City could face would be Italian Champions Juventus or the rich French side PSG, but City could get a tie against Scottish Champions Celtic or relatively new Champions League entrants Palermo.

The draw has just been made for the first knock-out stage and English Champions Manchester City will face French side Olmpique Lyonnais. The first leg will be in France with the teams meeting again in England two weeks later. City will be happy with this draw having been drawn against Real Madrid for the previous two seasons and they will fancy their chances in this tie.

Last years Champions League winners Manchester United will also face French opposition in PSG. Arsenal will face Sporting Lisbon, while the tie of the round will see Italian Champions Juventus face German Champions Bayern Munich.
