Matthaus Joins United
Lothar Matthaus has left his post as Sporting Lisbon manager to join Manchester United. The German had led his team to the top of the Liga ZON SAGRES table, but has been unable to resist the offer of joining United.
The German manager won several trophies in his time in Lisbon, and will be welcomed back if he decides to return, but he decided it was time to make the move. He won every game in Lisbon, and this will be an entirely different challenge for him. The club have struggled over the last two seasons, but the United board are confident Lothar Matthaus is the man to take them forward.
When asked about what he thought about signing for United, Matthaus replied “obviously I’m delighted to sign for the club. It’s going to be a massive step-up from Sporting, but I will never forget my time there, and I hope I can go back there some day. Back to United, it’s going to be a huge challenge for the club to get the season back on track, but hopefully we will come out of the other side with some silverware.
Lothar Matthaus will be on £34k p/w until June 2018.
