Champions League Best Placed Playoff

Porto vs Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town vs Porto

This was a very pleasing result; it is a result that has seen us progress into the group stage of the competition. FCP are a club that are previous winners of the competition so we knew that the game was going to be tough. Despite the lack of goals, which is a reoccurring theme with this Huddersfield Town squad, we never looked like losing. The new players settled in from the off with Steven Defour looking like he will become an integral player this coming season and for seasons in the future. We will not go far in this competition that is a fact. However, I would love to come up against some of the big European teams in order to bring in a load of money which will benefit the club in the long run.

Champions’ League Group Stage Draw

I could not be happier with this draw. Having FC Barcelona come to the John Smith Stadium is unbelievable. I do think there is a bit of history between the two clubs with the FC Barcelona B Team visiting West Yorkshire for a pre-season friendly. This kind of tie, along with the other two, will surely bring in the money that the club needs to remain stable for the coming seasons.
Nice job beating Porto, Barcelona and Zenit will be tough, so will Kyiv, maybe a third placed finish for Europa League can be accomplished. Good luck!
Woah, a great result against Porto. If you beat Barcelona I will give you.. lots of praise. :P Good luck with the group, and the rest of the season.

The group draw is kind in the fact that we will make a load of money from ticket sales but also it could end up being quite damaging on morale if we get hammered by all three teams. It should be an exciting campaign and who knows, if we get good results against Zenit and Kyiv we could move into the next round. Thanks for reading.

The result against Porto was a very pleasant surprise. I cannot see us coming close to beating FC Barcelona but then again, you never know! Thanks for reading.
Barca! :O Good luck! I'm confident that your side can pull off an upset!

It is going to be great to be able to go up against such a big European side. I am sure that the match at home will be a sell-out. I share your confidence that we could pull off an upset although it might be just to grab a draw. Thanks for reading.

Late Transfer

The signing of Jonjo Shelvey was beyond spontaneous. I had no intention whatsoever of signing him and in fact I had no idea where his was in regards to his club. He only came to my attention through rumours circulating of him joining another Premier League club. I enquired to his availability and Liverpool FC suggested a fee of £4.5 million. I personally see this as a steal! I have a lot of experience in managing Jonjo Shelvey during my time with Liverpool FC and he matures into being a great player and future captain of that particular Merseyside club. I definitely feel that with him, alongside Ledley, Defour and Falque, that I have now got the solid midfield that I have been craving. He brings with him youth and a good determination to succeed and that is the kind of player I want. Since this post he has been given his debut and it was a solid one so I really do hope he can continue his positive start.

With this signing I almost created financial trouble for the club. I had been under the impression there was more money available than there actually was. This meant that the club were losing money in relation to players wages. The only way to rectify this issue was to see two players leave the club. Ryan Tunnicliffe has been sent on a development loan with Middlesborough paying 60% of his wages which saw some change in the wage structuring. Wayne Routledge had expressed concerns that he wasn’t going to get any game time and unfortunately for him he was spot on. As a result he has been sold to Fulham FC for £1.4 million which has certainly helped solve the wage crisis as his £20k wages have disappeared. The club should now continue to make a profit like it did for the majority of last season.

I really do hope he becomes a big player for us as he defintely has the potential to. Thanks for reading.

I couldn't believe that I got him for so cheap. Liverpool FC have brought in a few players so he just wasn't getting game time so I think he was quite up for leaving so he could get first team football. He will have to work hard to push Falque and Defour out the team though. Thanks for reading.

August

It wasn’t only great to see the club progress to the group stage of the Champions League but we have had a very positive start to the Premier League campaign. The expectations by the board have been increased dramatically compared to the consolidation target of last season. The board of directors want a top half finishing position which I am confident I can help the club secure. I don’t however think we can emulate the success we had last year as we certainly overachieved. However, I am not going to write us off just yet...we are only two games into the season after all!

It really will be important that we win games against these "lesser" teams as I think we aren't quite ready to get three points against the top four teams consistently! Thanks for reading.
