Inter and Arsenal Prepare for Final Rematch

Last season's UEFA Champions League final between Arsenal and Inter was a tense affair, filled with drama, but in the end it was the Nerazzurri that ran out 1-0 winners. History was made that day as Giuseppe Bergomi's Internazionale side was the first ever to lift the European Cup on home soil, the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

This year, the only thing that seems to have changed is the venue; the final will be held at the Camp Nou in Barcelona. Everything else seems to be the same; Arenal vs. Inter, Bergomi vs. Conte. For a second year in a row Champions League history is in the making as for the first time in the history of the competition, the same two teams will contest the final in consecutive years.

It's fate, perhaps, that has renewed this eternal rivalry. Ever since Conte's stint at Juventus, he and Bergomi have been bitter rivals, fighting tooth and nail for every trophy. In the Juventus-Inter Derby d'Italia, it was the self-proclaimed 'King of Calcio' Bergomi that nearly always won out, and Conte has never forgotten. If he had, the biting loss in last year's final was certainly a reminder.

This year is a chance for vengeance. However, Arsenal will be missing a very key component of their side; goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will be missing due to his damaged cruciate ligaments. He's already missed four months of action and will miss another four yet. 18 year old English shot stopper Paul Metcalfe will start for the Gunners and has looked shaky at times these last few months, something Inter's strikers will certainly look to exploit.

The Nerazzurri, however, will have a completely clean bill of health; Mattia Destro and Ademilson have fully recovered from their injuries, a great sign for Inter's attack. Bergomi's men have certainly missed the explosive goalscoring prowess of those two talismanic strikers over the course of the season but players like Coutinho, Sterling, and Insigne have certainly picked up the slack.

Philippe Coutinho will almost certainly be the key player for Inter. Having scored 20 goals and created 21 assists over the course of the season, the Brazilian attacker is enjoying the season of his life and is capable of creating a goal from anywhere with his dribbling and flair. Because Arsenal utilize Conte's favored 3-5-2, Coutinho may be able to wreak havoc down the unmarked left flank.

Arsenal do have a stunning midfield to compete with, however. Andre Ayew, Jack Wilshere, and Aaron Ramsey are coming off of spectacular seasons, combining for a magnificent 25 goals and 46 assists throughout the season. Olivier Giroud has also taken up the goalscoring mantle netting a full 35 times, leading the team by far.

Arsenal have, of course, never won the UEFA Champions League, but have lost twice in the final of the competition. Inter is another story entirely having triumphed on four occasions and finishing runner up thrice.

Both teams are undoubtedly the two best in Europe, having now reached the Champions League final twice in a row. The question now arises; Can Arsenal avenge last season's heartbreak, or will Inter Milan once again prove that they are the greatest team in Europe? There's only one way to find out.
Why are Milito and Sneijder in that picture :S? Oh and 'Arsenal have, of course, never won the UEFA Champions League' AHAHAHAHHAAHAHAAHAHAAHHAAHAHAH
Pauker: 1) Arsenal suck :)) 2) There are only so many pitures of Inter training okay, stfu :P
Good luck :D You can win that :P
This is going to be tense, good luck Bergomi! :D

Late Comeback Sees Inter Triumph Yet Again

For the second year running, Inter Milan has lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy, breaking the hearts of North London giants Arsenal yet again. This year, however, the Nerazzurri seemed down and out until the last ten minutes. Perhaps it was late, but it was certainly great.

Arsenal lined up in their usual 3-5-2 against Inter in their normal 4-3-3. Bergomi had made the last minute decision to not start Ademilson or Destro and instead continue with Insigne as the central figure. He also decided Alvaro Pereira was not fit enough to start and continued with young Frenchman Lucas Digne.

Antonio Conte’s Arsenal looked far stronger than last year, though. Ayew, Ramsey, and Wilshere were bossing the midfield, hardly allowing Inter’s playmakers in the shapes of Andrea Poli and Adam Maher to even get a sniff of the ball. It was in impressive show of possession, certainly, but the Gunners could not find the penetration to give Olivier Giroud or Son Heung-Min a good chance throughout the first half.

Just five minutes into the second period, however, Arsenal’s wide men came to life and suddenly chances were flowing. Antoine Griezmann was at the center of it all, slotting a nice pass into Giroud, only for the big striker to rifle his strike off of the post.

With fifteen minutes remaining in the match, the Gunners finally took the lead. Aaron Ramsey slipped in Son Heung-Min who easily outpaced Ranocchia. Son then easily slotted home past Marc-Andre ter Stegen to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead and a glimmer of hope for vengeance after last season’s disappointment.

Suddenly, Inter sprung back to life.

A few minutes later, Brazilian winger Philippe Coutinho saw his long range strike blast off of the post to the agony of the blue and black clad fans in the Camp Nou. Moments later from a corner kick Emerson Luiz’s header smashed off of the crossbar. It just seemed as though it wasn’t to be, until Luiz himself decided it was time to come back.

Isco Alcorcon’s corner kick found the unmarked teenage central defender at the back post and Luiz made no mistake thundering in his header. With twelve minutes to go, the Nerazzurri had equalized.

The Brazilian starlet wasn’t done there, though. With just two minutes remaining in the Champions League final, Inter was awarded another corner after Thomas Vermaelon was forced to clear behind. Philippe Coutinho whipped in an inch-perfect ball, again to the head of Emerson Luiz, and again the teenager headed home to make it 2-1 to Inter.

Arsenal threw everything they could forward in the last few moments, but it was too late; Emerson Luiz had led Inter Milan to the most improbable comeback possible. The final whistle was blown with the score finishing 2-1; for the second straight year, Inter Milan have won the UEFA Champions League.

“I can’t believe it,” said Man of the Match Luiz after the game. “This is the most incredible feeling in the world, the kind of stuff you dream about as a little boy. Wow, I just cannot find the words for this. It’s incredible. This is the best day of my life.”

Giuseppe Bergomi was equally ecstatic after the match. “We showed amazing spirit out there to fight back from a goal down so late in the match. Nobody can say we don’t deserve this. No team has won this trophy twice consecutively for over 30 years, and that shows just how special this group is.”
Well done on winning the UCL :)
